hallo,
i need some help for the restoration of my car.
My 911 s targa is from 9/1972 with matching numbers. The car has
original sport seats, air condition and full leather.
The car has no external oil cooler and oil lines on the right side. Maybe
someone removed it years ago or the car was delivered without the
external cooling system?

I have also seen a 73 model year car here in the U.S. that never had an external oil cooler set-up. The owner spent a long time researching it, and it was delivered that way.
My 73S was not delivered with a trombone oil cooler, even though it was a Texas delivery car. It was an option in 1973 as Porsche decontented it's cars (it's why you have a foam steering wheel, not leather). I have added a trombone cooler to protect my investment in my engine rebuild and because the body is bare and the cooler mounting tabs could be welded on.
That is the way to check incidentally. Even if someone removed the cooler, they rarely remove the mounting tabs for it in the fender. So if you have no tabs, then it didn't come with a cooler.

Old Thread but here is one of the reasons the factory eliminated from oil coolers- Germany believed there was no need to additionally cool engines that loafed along at 55MPH.

I think that was a factor but the real reason was money, imagine that! Porsche realized that they could charge people for a cooler instead of just giving it to them.

Once again why 70-72S cars are so enticing. They have more intrinsic cool stuff built into them.
Actually it was VW of America who deleted the cooler for the US, penny pinchers. The ROW S cars all came with coolers. The factory was so incredulous when I went to buy one there that they sold me the whole setup for what the option cost was, I'd have to look, but I think I paid about 200 DM for lines, thermostat and the insufficient trombone.
KLM wasn't too happy when I checked in...
