FS: @eBay - '75 Ruf Carrera RS

It's news to me that Ruf was building these in '75. It will be interesting to see what it sells for.

"Ruf is of course famous for taking already potent Porsches and thoroughly reworking them into staggeringly fast machines. So extensive are the modifications that Rufs are typically considered completely separate automobiles, not just tuned Porsches. Before Alois Ruf Jr. really burst onto the scene in the late 1970s, however, he was indeed just a Porsche dealer and tuner. But we all have to start somewhere, right? Alois Jr. had been fascinated by the 911 from the beginning, and in 1974 when Alois Sr. died, the younger Ruf got more ambitious about enhancing Porsche’s darling sports car. A year later, the first Ruf-modified 911 came to life. There were only a few of these and they would be eclipsed by Ruf’s 3.3 liter turbocharge 911 of 1977 and the hardcover 911SC/R of 1978, but these first few cars are where it all started. This car, supposedly one of only five, is an example of Ruf’s early work and is located in Hamburg, Germany.
It’s been modified since 1975 and it’s not exactly clear what was done by Ruf and what was done by later owners. There are fiberglass fenders, bumpers and hoods, a 60 liter fuel tank, a fire system, Fuchs (8×16 front, 10×16 rear), racing brakes, Recaro seats, a Momo wheel, a Quaiffe limited-slip, and more. Ruf originally enlarged the motor to 2.8 liters, but that engine is now a short-stroke 3.2.
This is something that has been clearly set up with track days in mind. That’s all well and good, but it’s a shame that, given this car’s claimed importance to the Ruf story, the owners didn’t leave it exactly as Ruf originally did. Still, it has a genuine Ruf VIN number and the original Ruf certificate to authenticate it, and at the end of the day it’s still a hotted-up 1970s 911, so it’s still definitely something to lust after."
