European plates w/correct #

I recently bought a 300TE that doesn't have the US plate bumper filler. There is a company that will put your current plate # (or anything you want up to 9 characters) onto a German plate blank. You can get them with your state insignia imprinted on the blue bar on the left edge of the plate. I was thinking of getting one with my state insignia and correct reg #. Why? Because it would fill up the bumper void without the extra plastic filler that the US plates mount to. I also apparently have cabin fever, and too much time on my hands to think about such things. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this, and has it resulted in a no front plate ticket? Or worse??

I don't think just the number is sufficient, of course each state is different. There are also standardized plate dimensions, reflectivity and soon, font requirements.

ummm no - u think that would work in the EU without the seals for city center etc - not a chance

I'm not in the EU, I'm looking to fill the EU plate void in the bumper with a Euro plate that has the RI state registration # (as on the rear plate). Maybe I'm not making myself clear. I would rather go that route than put in the big black filler piece needed to use my regular plate.

I guess I've answered my own question. I was at the dealer yesterday and saw that someone had done exactly what I was pondering. I guess I'll give it a shot and report back if I end up getting a ticket for it. :D

Is this legal Jim? I thought that you cannot alter a license plate in any way. But as you just stated, time will tell so we'll see what happens......

Speaking of plates, I was thinking of getting a vanity plate for my 911 with "RGRUPE" but I'm sure if you already have it.

As for as the RG plate. I've thought about it, but that's as far as it went - so go for it.
