Old rally photos, Porsche 911

Uh-oh, with all my new-found knowledge, I don't think this picture is Larrousse at the '72 Monte. Larrousse drove #4 and that car did not have these flares or a ducktail. Anybody recognize this event? Could it be the '73 Monte?? Was there a '73 Monte??? 1336 was a training car at the Nov '72 Tour de Corse and it could have gone from there to the '73 Monte looking like this!? (R1 was the car that crashed at the TdC, not one of the training cars).

By the way, what are the dates of the '72 Monte? I know it's January something, but I dunno the dates

you assume that most readers know some other facts that will enable them to "join the dots" like:

• the factory policy of running their rallye cars in two or three events maximum before using them for T cars or recce cars for a couple of events and then selling them to favored customers who would use them in competition
• the fact that in 1972 the factory made a policy decision to abandon the rallye programme (with a couple of minor exceptions) for economic reasons

• and the fact that Meznarie was a very favoured cleint of the factory who received many cast offs from the factory and often employed factory drivers

the Citerium was in the last week of November or the first in December in 1972 - almost a month after the TdC was run and that picture` was taken at that event.

that is VERY interesting news about R1 - I had always suspected that might be the case but there was absolutely no evidence out there to support it. I take it that means that both R1 and R2 were the TdC cars and thus that event takes on more significance as the competition debut of the RS.

here is another picture of S AK 1336 at the Monte that I don't think has been posted yet

I have looked at this picture many times, but since there is so much questioning going on, I looked with different eyes I guess this time.

The front wheels on this car...I assume it is a 72, but maybe not...appear to be 9x15 Fuchs, and the rears appear to be something in between...not 11s and not 9s. Kremer was welding up Fuchs centered wheels in 72, so maybe they are 10x15 welded Fuchs. Can anyone identify them? Or maybe I am just seeing things that aren't there.

i get your point about the size of the wheels. Yes I have seen plenty of photos of narrow wheels under wide guards in rallye cars - mainly if there was snow around. I guess the weather was fine - cetainly the pictures of that event that i have seen show it as dry - justifying wide rubber

since the targa cars have been raised on this thread a couple of times as well as early factory Mules and the Strahle car (Jim's query) here is a couple of photos of the strahle car in its 1973 targa guise (as RS 9113600002) that I have not posted here before.
