(sheet 86 post 854 - 56) Hawaiian Tropic 24 hour le. Mans Cars, love the four 935's that Bob Garitson and Dick Barbour ran in 1979. My brother was part of the big service team he is wearing the cool Porsche pants, thay supported the cars that season, he has lots of story's and photo's of 1979 and Paul Newman flipping burgers for the team.
Btw what happened to the table in Bob G lobby? That would be quite a restoration project!

Day twohundred fortythree
Thank you all so very much !!
Forgive the delay in posting this AM, but I'm having DSL line problems and actually drove to a friends home to use his cable connection to post...sorry.
I must admit that I was genuinely pleased to hear earlier this year that the Carmel "Cars-on-the-Avenue" Concours was back on the Monterey Week calendar again for this year.
This year there were were some minor changes that took some of the shine off the event, regrettably there were no program books to help identify the cars, the wonderful wood directors chairs which the exhibitors received as mementos of their entries were replaced by rented plastic chairs, and the colorful flower pots in front of every car that so added to the festive ambiance were absent.......... but, on the other hand, it is all about the cars, isn't it ? Here we have one of the most enjoyable events of the whole week back on the docket, and it's free of charge, in a lousy economy and in an environment / location where money flows like water.......and the upgrade in the quality of the cars entered was downright palpable. Not a bad trade, I'd say.
Every event produces special memories, and for me this years unforgettable moment of the Cars-on-the -Avenue event was the sight of not one, but two four-cam Carrera Speedsters, one dark red, the other in white lined up next to one another. In addition, a third '57 Speedster pushrod example, in the rare color of "Orange", ( only thirty 356 models in total were ever painted in this color, per the owner ) with factory original Rudge wheels was proudly parked a couple of cars down the row making for a spectacular sight altogether..........who needs flower pots with treasures like those on display.
Ditto...with what everyone else said John. Thanks for this thread.

That orange Speedster rocks...happy birthday John!
Happy birthday, John! Seeing your choices for today and knowing your proclivities and good taste, I'm sure that there's a 356 somewhere just waiting for the chance to be your birthday present. May you open it soon!
