The Definitive Color Thread

I've made a zillion edits, and I think it's getting a lot better. Thanks, again to all who have contributed. Particular thanks to Carl for painstaking proof reading and meticulous itemization of corrections. I believe I've responded to all of the posted comments, as well as some comments via PMs and emails. To all who have posted, please review what I've done, and if things look right please consider editing your posts so that future readers don't become confused. I'm going to delete redundant posts and move some things around, as I have two codes in one post at the moment, so post numbers of your comments will no longer correspond with the correct post. Plus, this will make me look like a genius that got everything right the first time.;)

There's more to come. I still have a few colors with no pictures, and some of the pictures are still pretty crappy, so I'll keep digging, and please keep sending me things!

132 is just Elfenbein again.

Wow, I don't think I have ever seen whitewall tires like that on a P car of this vintage and in that color as well. However, I can recall some "pimped" out Eldorado's in that color with the big whitewalls and "curb feelers" back in the day.

Very timely!

I'm in the final process of restoration of my 69T in Ossi Blau... It is indeed the hardest blue to nail down! The car was painted Arrow Blue by a previous owner, so I've never seen it in Ossi. But I did find the remains of the original paint behind the colour code plate of all places :) I scraped a sliver with a razor and kept it for paint matching. No matter what I've tried, I can't seem to get a good photo of the colour using my digital camera, and I can't honestly say my screen resolution is displaying it perfectly anyway - This seems to be a common problem with various blues and digital rendering.

Anyway, today I had 4 litres of Ossi Blue mixed up as per the Glasurit code (6803) and it appears to be the same as my scraping. My only comment is that it seems to be 'darker' than a lot of the photos I've found of it on the net (including the photo of the targa currently displayed).

I did find this thread recently which appears to show the colour accurately (daylight shots) http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1653686 And it's a really good paint restoration link :)

How is she doing? I REALLY miss that car, selling was STUPID. Please, tell me how she is doing and if possible do a thread with updated photos.

The original color on the car was indeed Dark Metallic Red (as per the COA) but she has been repainted and the color I am sure is not an exact match to factory. Also, the front and rear bumpers, and front hood are fiberglass to save weight (car weighed 2050lb with 1/2 tank of gas) and the paint on those parts does not match the rest of the car exactly. Close.... but not a match.

EDIT- posted before reviewing the full thread.... clearly you don't have the car now and sourced the photo to show the color. As I said, the color is close but clearly not an exact match to factory. If anyone does have current info on where and how she is I would love to know....

Here's a '73.5 911T, with a color called Grey Beige Metallic on the web site (also called Cadillac Beige Gray in the description?) Red Book only lists a Beige Gray, #622, for '72 and '73 cars. It must be an original color as shown, since the car has very low miles and is said to have the original paint job. It's here in the 911T for sale thread. Anyway, I love the color, a nice departure from the nice, but common, silver metallic.

It looks like it's color code nr. 514 which, according to Glasurit, Porsche didn't 'officially' use until 1988. Maybe they looked back, liked it, and decided to start using it again?
