Waldegård/Helmer KAK Rally 1972.
Photo of a friend's factory East Africa Safari Rally car driven by Waldegaard, photographed here when he was my guest in the grounds of The Royal Automobile Club, in Woodcote Park Surrey Last month. (Parking in pole position with the kind permission of the Club's Motoring Secretary)

By way of historical background on the venue, the Royal Automobile Club was founded in 1897 with the aim of encouraging the development of motoring in Britain, the Club was responsible for organising the first British Grand Prix motor race at Brooklands, Surrey in 1926 and also runs its sister organisation, the UK governing body of Motorsport MSA (formerly RAC MSA).
Ever since being created it has been at the heart motoring organising events such as the famous London to Brighton Veteran Car run. In 1896 the first run from the Metropole Hotel in London to the Metropole Hotel in Brighton was a celebration of new-found freedom for motorists, granted by the 'Locomotives on the Highway Act', which raised the speed limit of automobiles to 14mph and abolished the requirement for these vehicles to be preceded by a man on foot carrying a flag of warning. The RAC's London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is the longest-running motoring event in the world.
While we sometimes get excited about rare early 911 cars and their parts it was enlighting at last year's pre-event lunch to chat to a chap who explained he owns and would be driving an original one of a kind motorcar made in the late 1800s. Didn't dare ask where he gets his spare parts from!
The Royal Automobile Club Grand Prix, staged by the Club in 1948 at Silverstone, is recognised as the first international Grand Prix of the modern era and the golden trophy is the only Grand Prix award that has subsequently been presented every year. Between events the trophy resides in the RAC main clubhouse in London's St James. Some very famous names of the winners engraved on it. Being checked out here by Nico Rosberg.

The names of Silverstone track's corners such as Woodcote and Club reflect the RAC's central role in the British Grand Prix and the world-class Motorsport industry based here in the UK.
Topically, with the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain this year (the same month I took the 911 snap) those who enjoy aviation /military history might be interested to know that the summer of 1940, during the height of the Battle of Britain, a Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft was forced to land in the golf course of Woodcote Park. The pilot received medical assistance in the RAC clubhouse, having first proved that he was not an enemy airman by waving a packet of Players cigarettes at nearby golfers. (Coincidentally John Players became quite prominent as an F1 sponsor of my former employer a few decades later!)
This Battle of Britain event is commemorated in this painting hanging in the clubhouse ( the position of the rally car by the fountain in first photograph can just be made out in background).

I am no golfer, but seems a bit odd to me that a game golf was being played as the pivotal WWII Battle of Britain raged overhead in the skies of the Home Counties!
I assume this sixteen-page thread of old worldwide rally photos has been mentioned earlier, but if not:
