That is the exhaust side. Merely a cover plate until the muffler is installed.

I KNOW! Acid wouldn't etch it clean. I should have sanded and polished it. It's been bugging me.

I don't believe the clamps pictured on the car are Geze, but the picture that you added, as you probably know, are ski binding clamps. Anyone who was skiing in the 50s recognizes Geze clamps as what secured your foot to the ski via a cable around the back of the boot. I have seen Geze clamps used to secure lids though, and love this sort of adaptive reuse.

When you have an RSR oil tank (with no dipstick provision), where do you put the dipstick? In the convenient "holster" once inhabited by the engine cover release pull-cable.
