- Well-Equipped with Leather Sport Seats, Sunroof, Limited-Slip Differential and Air-Conditioning
- Showing Less than 55,000 Miles
- Rare and Desirable Black on Black Color Combination

The 911 S of 1973 represented the high point of Porsche’s sports car range; as the final production year of the original first-generation 911, that year’s models showed Porsche in its most highly evolved form to date.
This 1973 911 S is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, which documents both its numbers-matching engine and highly optioned specification. A long-term resident of Oregon, the 911 was equipped from new with a power sunroof, desirable leather Recaro sport seats, limited-slip differential, Koni shock absorbers, tinted glass, and air-conditioning. Today, it presents in excellent and highly original condition, including particularly well-preserved leather upholstery. Believed by the consignor to have been treated to just one high-quality repaint, and to once have been owned by noted Porsche enthusiast Bill Shores, the 911 shows approximately 55,000 miles from new.
The consignor states he has known and coveted this lovely 911 S for over 20 years while storing it – for previous owner John Dickenson of Portland, Oregon – at his place of business, before finally being able to purchase the Porsche in 2015. He reports that the well-kept 911 has been maintained by noted Portland-based specialists Marque Motors for at least 20 years, including a recent service.
Offered in its striking factory colors of Black on Black, this 911 represents a rare opportunity to acquire an excellent example one of Porsche’s most coveted models.

After 20 years of seclusion, this first-year 911 S has risen from its slumber. Faithfully restored and rigorously tested, this Porsche, one of the first 911 performance models, is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
After rolling off the line in 1967, this 911 S journeyed to Ohio, where its first owner purchased the car from Stoddard Imported Cars. The second owner lived in New Hampshire and stored the car for nearly 20 years his barn. Tucked away from the outside world, with only 73,000 on its odometer, this model – one of only 1,823 S coupes produced in 1967 – was a prime candidate for restoration.
In 2015, The 911 Company began a full nut-and-bolt restoration of this model, with the goal of returning it to its original condition. The body was completely stripped down to address minor repairs and refinished in its original color – Polo Red. The original 901/02 S engine with Weber carburetors and five-speed manual gearbox was disassembled, inspected and completely rebuilt. The restoration left no area untouched, from the revitalized suspension to the beautiful, yet purposeful, interior.

- Matching-Numbers Example According to Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
- Highly Optioned with Sport Seats, Tinted Glass, and Rear Wiper

- Original Owner (purchased new in Boston, Massachusetts)
- George C. Watson, Flourtown, Pennsylvania (acquired from Holbert Porsche-Audi in July 1973)
- Current Owner (acquired from the above)
Prized for their open roof and fantastic driving dynamics, just 925 911 S Targa models were built for 1973, placing quality, unadulterated examples in high demand today.
Accompanied by a corresponding Certificate of Authenticity, this US-specification 1973 Porsche 911 S Targa was completed in December 1972, finished in Silver Metallic over black leatherette and optioned with Sport seats, a rear wiper, tinted glass all around, and Michelin tires. Sold new in Boston, it was traded after approximately five months and 8,304 documented miles to Holbert Porsche-Audi, where, according to an original Bill of Sale dated July 1973, George Watson purchased this Porsche, which remained in his family until recently.
As offered, the 911 S Targa shows 35,900 miles of use and, according to the consignor, it remains almost completely original. The Porsche was a prized possession and, after the passing of the second owner, was removed from the airplane hangar where it had been stored for 20 years and taken to be serviced at a local marque specialist. Service and re-commission work was performed during 2015 at 35,500 miles, documented with invoices on file totaling over $10,000. According to the consignor, the wheels are original, and the Michelin tires are possibly factory-original as well. Notably, the consignor states the original Silver finish remains, albeit with some crazing consistent with the original materials. The interior remains original, shows virtually as new, and the car retains the factory markings and characteristics of an unaltered original car. Accompanying items include the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, plus the original owner’s manual, warranty/service booklet, history file, service and maintenance records, and the original tool kit, spare and jack, keys and valet key, plus the original antenna keys and original key fob from the selling dealer. The Motorola radio is believed by the consignor to be an original dealer-installed unit.
To find an early 911 S in this condition is an extremely rare occurrence and a true treat, marking a fascinating study in originality and effective preservation.
