1968 T/R - "Out Of Africa"

The car had lost its original 3 point harnesses, however, I managed to get a great set off eBay earlier in the year although they have had the "Britax" logo patches removed but I can live with that given their overall condition. In the late 60's Porsche used Britax harnesses prior to the use of Repa/Autoflug, I believe from the early 70's.

Inspired by the thread Bob Tilton produced on the refurbishment of the harness eye bolts I spent last weekend having a go at mine using Plasti-Dip.....pleased with the results although initial attempt with the spray version of their product did not work so second clean up and back to good old dipping!

Progress has been slow over the last few months due to other commitments although I have managed to refurbish a few more parts; main focus still on research which is proving a protracted exercise!

In the box of loose parts that came with the car was this fire extinguisher bracket. Is this just an aftermarket bracket or was an extinguisher available from the factory in '68, or if period would it more likely be a local dealer addition?

Searches have only found the later RSR extinguisher discussions. Any guidance appreciated.

Interesting detail.

Here are photos of the extinguisher and bracket found in 9110301059, a '70 European-model 'S,' reputed Austrian-delivery. The supplier of this bottle is Vulkan and, apparently, they're still around (http://www.vulkan-werk.de/hauptframeE.htm). There's nothing on the CoA, but, since all the markings are in German, and the car has been in the US since the early 70s, I'm assuming that the bottle was fitted before it came here.

I can't quite make out any supplier names on the bottles in the other photos but, from the colors/labeling and the handles, these could be from the same supplier?

As for your bracket, I'd suggest . . .
a) . . . contacting Vulkan, show them your picture --- see if anyone there can identify it
b) . . . start looking up old German-language auto publications from the period and researching advertisers of fire-suppression equipment --- how many could there be?

I assumed that my set-up was Dealer-installed. Seeing the bracket and bottle in Raj's 914 photo --- mine looks very similar.

Vulkan were also the manufacturer of the tyre-inflation bottles Factory-supplied with early 2.7 RS Carreras (Vulkan used to be in Stuttgart).

Many thanks for your replies, certainly looks like Vulkan is a good place to start.....from looking at my bracket compared to the picture Rick posted (and the one in the 914/6 GT) mine would have been one of the round bottom type extinguishers to sit in the lower hoop.......great where these projects take you.....(ah yes, the good old '68 round bottom Vulkan!!!!).

Are these even propellant-charged? The piston-type push-handle reminds me of the old hand-held bug-sprayers from the 40s and 50s.

Here's a Gloria on dispaly in a '52 356, as seen up at Morro Bay, back in May . . . so I'm gonna guess that this style of Gloria is way too old for a 911.
