A memorable event for me as a kid as my dad had Hillman Hunter at time and a neighbourhood friend was called Andrew Cowan (no relation)

Some years later I was due to learn to drive in the trusty but by then rusty old Hunter workhorse until my dad remembered the handbrake was on the door side of the driver’s seat (out of his reach when supervising which made him nervous) so car swap for his other car and I learned and in fact passed my test in a Mini Cooper.

A fun film which documents the 1971 Circuit of Ireland Rally....fun to watch on all levels but some nice coverage of my 911S which came 8th overall. It comes in at about the 18 minute mark but there are other Porsche references in there too.

That’s a cracker of a video, I revisit it from time to time and watched it in 1971 when shown of RTÉ ( Ireland’s National TV Service ). Thanks for the link. Well worth a look !

Watched this lot go over block at RM Sotheby’s auction held at RAC on Saturday. Just a handful of miles on clock, albeit a bit modern. Paddy Hopkirk was guest at RAC motoring week Chairman’s lunch last weekend but didn’t see him in auction later that same day. Always makes time for a chat at events.
