Reintroducing a storied car to the Early 911S Registry...

Imagine my surprise today when I came across another early car coming through my neighborhood in the opposite direction. Intown Atlanta isn't like Southern California when it comes to early Porsche sightings. We rolled down our windows as we pulled up to each other. He told me to follow him as he was going to see yet another early car to hang out and tinker for the afternoon...

Wait... huh?

How have I not seen these cars before? I wasn't even on my normal route out of the 'hood to the highway, so this was definitely a chance encounter.

Turns out all 3 of us have 69 cars. And all 2nd owner cars at that! We sat around chatting and crawling over the cars for a while.

All this 1/2 mile from my house... who knew!

Anyway, I put the guys onto the early S registry and told them I would post a quick write up to welcome them to the fold. I also told them we don't care that their cars are 912s, now do we...

Hi Bryce, missed u today at C and O. Great show. What color is the 911 in the garage? Looks like mine.

Imagine it- sepia brown, bahama yellow, and polo red- it was really quite a scene. we set the timing on Tim's yellow car and got it to stop backfiring. He running an 061 dizzy that has vacuum advance, but vacuum isn't hooked up, so it was tough finding a good setting that gave decent idle, and advance for power at 3000-4000 RPM ( sweet spot for the 912), and no backfiring. whats great is his car, while running webers came with manifolds and the original solex so he can go back to OEM if he wants.. He xven had an original solex float level P78 tool- totally jealous! we will definitely get together soon

Very cool. From what I have read, studied and been told, Solex's are best left in the box, where mine are being stored, and the Webers will remain on the car, at least on my 66'. Let the next care giver bang his head. Love that Sepia shot. It would be very cool to all get together for a local photo shoot with some nice local backgrounds like Piedmont Park or something.

Michael's knowledge about the mechanics of 912 is truly amazing. He was able to fix my timing issue pretty quickly. He also has a nice collection of cars and another beauty is about to join the collection. Pretty jealous ;-)
I am pretty happy that the car came with the original solexes since if I ever decide to go totally OEM as Michael mentioned I have the option to do so. Michaels sepia brown came with a unique interior color that I never saw before, truly unique and beautiful color combination.

It was really nice to meet both Michael and Bryce and hope to see you soon.

Sorry Mark, couldn't disagree more, every Weber conversion I've seen just had hacked up linkage and fuel lines, and didn't run as well as the Solexes because for some reason the Weber kits seem to come with smaller venturis. I'll take the Solexes anytime.

Mark, remember these cars I met up with yesterday were 912s... Your 66 is a 911, so the Solex/Weber story is different

I was following your restoration tread and amazed with all the metal fabrication and welding you did to your 912. I also sent a message to you through 912 BBS but I realize you don't follow the 912 world any longer since you have 2 911s ;-)

I have a couple of rusty spots and would like to get your opinion in regards to what needs to be done to the car. Maybe I can show it to you once all of us get together one of these days.
