BaT Description:
This 1971 Porsche 911T Targa is a restored example that was sold new at Chetson Motors in Springfield, Illinois. The car is said to have remained in longterm storage with the previous owner from the late 1970s until the current owner’s acquisition about eight years ago. This example was subsequently restored, including disassembly and a repaint in the factory Conda Green. The targa top and Fuchs wheels were refreshed, new seals were installed, and the brakes were gone through. The interior received new seat upholstery with houndstooth inserts as well as new carpet. The numbers-matching 2.2L flat-six was also rebuilt using new pistons, rings, timing chains, and tensioners. Photos of the work are included along with the original maintenance record, and this 911 is now being offered by a dealer on behalf of the current owner with a clean Tennessee title.
After the car was pulled from storage, it was stripped and given a high quality repaint in its factory Conda Green. The original targa roof panel was refinished along with the polished Fuchs wheels, which are now mounted with GoodRide Radial SP06 tires. The factory glass was retained during the restoration, though new window and door seals were installed. A priority was reportedly placed on originality, and the polished targa bar. The front seats were reupholstered with black outer sections and green/black cloth houndstooth inserts. The back seats reportedly retain their original fabric, and new carpet was installed throughout the interior. The instrumentation has been fitted with silver rings, and all gauges are said to be functional. The 86,205 indicated miles are believed accurate based on the longterm storage and available records from the first two owners.
The numbers-matching 2.2L flat-six was rebuilt using new pistons, rings, chains, and tensioners during the restoration. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transaxle, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity has been ordered by the current owner and will passed on to the winner of the auction. Stamping #6117101 can be seen on the engine and confirms it as original. Multiple undercarriage photos have been provided detailing the condition of various suspension and chassis components. The factory maintenance record shows the chassis and engine numbers, and service documents from the first two owners will be included along with the the original service manual.
