I did a quick look through my Kardex folder. I do not claim that B means black as such. These codes in the exterior color box are a little confusing, but do seem to be consistent; these codes I associate with interior color this way:
A <> rot
B <> schwarz
B/P <> schwarz/pepita
C <> braun
D <> beige
There should also be blue and green.
B/C = cords/ schwarz
D/C = cords / beige
D/P = braun / pepita (probably an error on the cardex of 303498)
BTW the letters apply for leatherette and leather

Thanks Richard. I agree that they do apply for both leather and leatherette. I did not see cords listed in my files, so that is most useful. I did see a few occasions where B/P was listed without pepita specified, but the evidence suggests that it should have been.

Thanks all for the feedback on the paint codes, I now understand the "L" on the paint tag (Leasonal) compared to the "B" on the Kardex.....interestingly the one original sports seat in the car was black vinyl bolsters with papita (houndstooth) centres!
Fortunately some of the original lightweight carpet survived together with the front luggage compartment pieces, I have yet to attempt to clean them! The cabin carpet material is approximatley half the thickness/weight of the luggage compartment (standard?) material and as can be seen from the final comparison picture, is considerably darker

Tim, I had some pretty filthy perlon in my 914 which was boarderline being tossed and replaced. On a lark, I decided to throw it in the washing machine after spot treating the worst areas with Shout and then detergent on regular cycle - cold wash/cold rinse. I was amazed when it came out clean and looking like new. I hung it to dry.
If you are daring you can try a small piece on gentle and see how it works and then if sucessful move up to regular.

RickS - Thanks for the tips on cleaning......real danger with the risk of damaging the carpet and being caught showing too much interest in the washing machine.....seriously thanks for the advice, when we get into the better weather in the UK so I can let it dry slowly I will give it a go.
