Love your original shot Randy. I saw my first ST type car in 1977 and fell in lust with it. That car was an inspiration for most of my projects over the years, even without realizing how much it impacted how I saw a proper 911. Well after all these years that very car is now in my hands. Gib, I agree the ST form is the pinnacle of the 911. It carries the lines and flow like no other.
My first 911 hot rod had ST rear flares, this was in the late 80's- didn't know what a ST was at the time. I agree the best lines of any 911.

Here's my 73 911T. Originally a Southern California car and has no rust. I'm in the process of stripping her down for a complete respray but have yet to decide on a color or if I'm will be keeping it as a narrow body.

Nice first post metric.....
Don't recall if I have previously posted on this thread. Anyway, here is my Albert Blue/tan '72E I bought from CPR in 2012. Starting with no history, within less than a year I had identified all nine owners and talked with seven of them. (With the internet, no one is safe!) Published an article in Esses on the car and my detective work. The car is in excellent condition throughout (still mostly original) and a thrill to drive. This photo is from the Amelia Island Concours Cars and Coffee Saturday event on the 911's 50th anniversary, as you can see from the Porsche display in the background. We drove six of these early 911 beauties from Knoxville and Atlanta to and from the event (another Esses article). Attachment 337461

Yes, totally non purist but a quick and easy way to cheap and reliable horsepower. No. 1 goal was to introduce more power, start first time and take a regular track beating and survive that

Gorgeous…….is that Stone Grey ?
JZG
Thanks for the kind words guys
Yep it is Stone Grey.
Not the car's original colour though!
Left the factory Bahama Yellow.
I've had this car since summer of 1997, car had just arrived in the UK from Los Angeles area, my first and only Porsche.
A few years ago i started to strip the car for a bit of a refresh and towards the end colour change came into my mind.
The car is a matching numbers vehicle so keeping it Bahama Yellow had it's plus points.
In the end i decided i wanted a change of colour but not a change of car and as i have no intention of selling i thought what the heck :-)
So Stone Grey it was.

FWIW, measure the rear (center of) fender lip to ground before and after. Back end may drop a bit as these are kind of "porky". No big deal. May want to raise the back or drop the front.;)
Porky is an understatement - I can't believe someone isn't building titanium or carbon fiber or unobtanium bases for these - would add performance and better mileage - any leads ? ;)

Nice. Is front bumper metal or fiberglass?
Compliments, that's an absolutely gorgeous car ( Signal Orange, isn't it ? ) with wonderful taste reflected in the choice of many details, I especially like the sensational interior, well done & chosen…….but there is one thing that cries out for attention and improvemnt: the location of the passenger side door-mounted rear-view mirror is all wrong, and I'll wager it is of no practical use whatsoever.
JZG
Hi, front bumper is FG for now. I'm going for a steel non lipped with fog holes when I can get one. But I'm liking the S bumper so might change them out from time to time
Thanks John. Yes, signal orange. The interior is bespoke and I had large plates CNC'd up to emboss the leather to a pattern. Just simple 6mm dots. Turned out really well. The passenger mirror is totally useless and can't be seen from the drivers seat. That's the important mirror here in NZ where we drive on the left so I need to sort out a solution for better visibility, maybe chrome flags or move it. The RH door seems to be original to the car and so do the mounting positions? The car came from California originally.
Nice car, try moving the mirror.
My '67 (Shorty) had a passenger side mirror installed when it was relatively "new". It's ok for the passenger, not so much for me.
I'll never move it because it's a "documented screw up" which was bumped (by the photographer) in this picture. :(
I had the same problem on my '67, but it saved me from a ticket when the Soft rear window clouded over, preventing use of the main mirror. The cop saw that I had a side mirror and let me go, even though I couldn't see the mirror from the driver's seat.

OK...you guys, I can't help but post a couple of pics of the most famous Martini RSR Recreation accomplished by Mike Moore with the help of Neil Bainbridge in the UK. Keith Martin showed these pics in his thread in April of 2013 from pics taken for Classic Porsche Magazine: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ht=martini+RSR
The Martini logo and paint scheme is probably the most famous Porsche factory sponsor of the 70s, and will always be one that will make guys stop and look at any 911 with this look on its flanks. Harvey, I always look and admire your car at Treffen...I love the look!
Photos by Keith Martin of Classic Porsche Magazine.
I had forgotten how purposeful and incredible that car is, thanks for posting again. I miss seeing the updates on DDK.
Indeed, an absolutely awesome car, it was a fun launch event
http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/...psivlisuqo.jpg
Rear fender looks strange. I suppose that is purposeful?
Here are some pics of the original car as 107 at the 73 Targa, as a factory car #3 used for marketing in 73, and as a factory/Strahle prototype in June of 72. The car was known as the 'Mongrel' because it began life as a factory 72 ST, and was used in prototype development for the 73 RSR program with many iterations of bodywork and engines. The rear flares were always a very distinguishing feature, no doubt hand made for 11x15 Fuchs.
Quote by GT3DE..."Rear fender looks strange. I suppose that is purposeful?"
A long time ago I spoke to a fellow back home(in Sweden)who worked on Porsches during "the good old days"...He mentioned that in the beginning when they needed 911 rear flares of any significance...they started "massaging" rear fenders for VW bugs (turned around and switched sides)..i.e left rears became right rear flares on the 911...not sure how common or actually true that statement is, but the "Targa 107" and the old 1965 (ex Bengt Ekberg)rally car have very distinct round/cupped look to them...I like the look, but then again...I'm a sucker for flares on these cars anyway.../Lars...

Hello.
First, Thankeyou for this great willkome!
My insperation for build this car came from the last 2.5 st(sr) how 1972 and 1973 drive the 1000km and european gt cup on Nürburgring. there was the time of the wiedeboody ST`s with 9" and 11" flares and wheels. this flares had an own design. it was not rsr 2.8 and not ST.

Just brought 451 back home yesterday after a though detail and some much needed sorting by our favorite Porsche whisperer, Larry Marzano near Chicago. I have been a bad boy and let the car sit for far too long, so this was in preparation for a road trip this week with the MW gang. Really looking forward to the trip. :)
Finally had the correct size tires mounted. Looks so much better now.

Brian,
Absolutely stunning, enjoy!
Phil
Great to see it back in use, looking good. See you in a few days.
Looks great. Are the tires 185/70 and 215/60?
Rich
Im interrested in wheel and tire size also.
Brian,
451 looks great, glad to see it's getting out ! Have a great time @ Bergrennen.
Thanks guys for the compliments.:) I am really fired up about the way it looks and drives. The odometer reads 10,000 KM exactly, seems like a good # to start with for the trip.
Scott, you will be missed greatly! A tinge of sadness you won't be along. Hope to see you later this Fall.
Safe travels Bob for you and the others from the great state of TX.
Yes guys, the tires are 185/70 and 215/60 Avon CR6ZZ on 7 and 8"X15" wheels. The car was delivered to the first Swiss owner on 6" and 7" but he quickly moved the rear wheels forward and put 8" on the rear.
