Yes, the side 'hinge' should be black wrinkle finish for '72/'73 - here's a (not very good) picture:

Where did the NOS tilt mechanisms come from Andy?
Was crinkle finish '72/'73 only?
Clyde - I bought it in Germany a couple of years ago.
Kenik - yes, the '69-'71 seats had chrome side 'hinges' which were changed to black 'wrinkle' finish for the '72/'73 models.
ALL sport seats had the recliner/hinge mechanism in black from 1967 to 1973. For "standard" seats it's chrome from 65 to 71/72 and definitely black for 1973. I've seen a couple of chrome recliners on sport seats (I have one myself) but I assume it's from the BMW, or aftermarket versions that were offered.Quote:

Of course ! I don't know why I posted that - I was obviously thinking of the standard seats...:o
I was also wrong to refer to the finish of the black side 'hinges' as 'wrinkle' finish - it's more of a 'splatter'...
That's what happens when the fingers are working quicker than the brain... !!
Sorry for posting incorrect info.
Whew!
