Ok, so MY interest is in the purported reproductions of these orange badges. Not the new ones, and not the Stoddard ones from the 80's.
I might eat these words, but I don't think that I've seen a single badge that isn't a VERY obvious reproduction (again, the new Factory ones, or the 80's Stoddard ones), that has been proven to be a reproduction. I mean, if there is a very good reproduction out there, why aren't the still making them??
Here's a pretty good thread from 2006 on Pelican regarding these badges. I remember that a particular seller named "europeanhardware" was selling what some of us believed was restored badges as NOS using PORSCHE printed backboards and then shrink wrapped to appear NOS. In a few cases they looked like doctored 80's repros that had been dulled slightly and then shrink wrapped (with this method you can't see the back).
But, beyond this discussion in 2006 I've yet to see a truly accurate badge proven to be a reproduction. But, maybe I've missed something.

No, what I'm saying is that everything is original unless it's a very obvious fake. All the fakes have been very obvious imho. They look horrible to begin with when new, and they don't age the same way as an original. The one on the red car on the 912 Registry thread has far too bright of gold. The original gold was NEVER that bright, it was always a rich gold paint like appearance that was never too "bright" or polished looking. Yes, I've seen restored ones that use too bright of gold plating, but that's not the discussion here.
So, imho nobody has every made a correct reproduction. And, I would probably get "thrown" by an incorrectly restored original if they used too bright of gold in the restoration.
Carry on...
Well, agreeing with Eric is usually the wise choice. ;)
