had a short chat with there expert who is in charge of this lot..quote .We are still researching this car...
Very possible the front end was damaged when racing. Replaced with a front clip etc. Back when 64/65's cars weren't seen as much more than old race cars it wouldn't mean much to swap it with a newer front. Plus to the racer you get adjustable shock towers. That being said if you can confirm this, a restoration is needed . Just one long winded possibility.
Lots of detail pics on the Bonhams site. Franz (Moito). What looks odd about the Dash carrier and what is odd in the engine bay? Always
Interested to learn more about these early cars.
It is typical to replace the shock towers to the newer adjustable type to get the car to be able to go around a race track. I have done this on a historic 65 built 66 I have.
if the entire front end (all the way to the A pillars), the dash carrier and the engine bay all got replaced with later stuff due to racing accidents that car was a mess.

A donor chassis was sourced and surgically refitted but with care taken to ensure the original chassis stampings were retained while the bodywork was commensurately replaced with panels from another car.
Vin is irrelevant at this point. Poorly bought!
