As you wrote to buy a cheaper 68 version to convert to 66/67 i assume you mean the later version
and this version is thicker incl. a possible optional headrest.
The 66/67 were build much thinner from the metal construction, other foam shape and especially on the top of the back
a much thinner shape. From a 68- version it‘s not possible to convert to a 66/67 version, the 66/67 are a kind of its own.

You may not get 100% but you may get close specially if hard to find original 66-67 sport seats
Thanks for the photos. Looks like the lower frame is also different. I’m a little concerned about the tip brackets on the lwb lower frame, 68 uses tip brackets on the lower sliders. So are 68 frames the same as 69-72? My 68 seats say the same as 69. Considering their rarity and cost, an accurate 67S repro might be a worthwhile project.

Sold new in Sweden in 1966, the 911 67S was off the road from 1973 before it was restored, seats remained the original just an excellent clean up! and in Europe, you could order a headrest; it was just on the driver's side.

I think the author is looking for an original 67 seat. The attached picture shows a 67 in comparison to a 68 seat. I think it is nearly impossible to pimp a 68 seat to a 67.
