VIN 9113300961 - Buyer Beware!

I can second everything that yoprup said about this shop.

I know the shop very well in question and can vouch for their integrity- there is no secondary gain or motives here for them to give the car a bad inspection.

I live on the pennisula and last year after taking my car out of storage researched and interviewed quite a few shops on the pennisula before chosing them. I have not been disappointed since in the 10years I have owned my car this is the best it has run.

That said, after reading the various post about this car, I think it might come down to an issue of misunderstanding not misrepresentation between the various parties.

I don't think there's ever a time when a sellers description matches a buyer's expectation - especially after seeing a few jpegs. Obviously - this is the reason for a PPI.

I did a long distance PPI on my car, and quite a few negative things were found. All relatively minor and fixable - but I was ready to walk away (keep in mind, I had my heart set on a 2.4 silver S with sports and sunroof - so it would have been hard to walk away from a matching example). I renegotiated a price $5k lower than the original agreed price after adding up the cost of fixing everything.

I guess my point here is an independent PPI can be a great negotiating tool - not just an all or nothing thing. I would have been screwed financially without one - and having documentation on costs to fix PPI issues was a huge help in getting the price down.

Then again... I've since put more than $5k into it - and could easily follow that with another $15K. But we all know how that goes!

Bumping a 21 year old thread, since I now own 9113300961 and threads like this are part of the car’s permanent record, so to speak.

All these years later, I bought it from someone who has owned it since 2008. It has not been resprayed since that one respray ‘sometime in the ‘90s’, which is holding up really well. Considering the age, it was at least a slightly better than average respray that continues to look good. The car has received good maintenance over the years and is just coming out of a major mechanical reset. Whatever rust talked about at the beginning of the thread isn’t evident now and the car is very straight and appears unmolested and honest. I have two COAs showing that it was originally Aubergine with great options - sunroof, factory air and power windows. Oddly, the first COA (looks to be from the ‘90s) shows blue interior and the second (mid 2010s) shows black interior. It’s pretty clear that the first COA as in error. I sure wish Chris were still around to give me more details.

In any case, by the time I’m done with the mechanical refresh, the engine and associated systems will have a solid baseline and the suspension will be renewed (it’s feeling a little tired now and needs struts, shocks, bushings, etc.). Having said that, it drives straight and pulls great from 4k RPM to redline. I’m very happy to be the next caretaker.

Congrat's! 67 here that was in rain once in the last 20 years or more. Original, not perfect, but good floor pans due to such. My advice for the suspension is level 2 or so. Mines more of a track car, fun but stiff. There's a place up #1 from you that is famous for artichoke soup and crabs. Worth the drive.

Thanks man. Yeah, I’m done with perfect cars. I wanted really nice, but not perfect, and that’s exactly what I got. I think it’ll get Bilstein sport shocks and struts and 21 / 26mm torsion bars. Sporty, but not super stiff. And yeah, Duarte’s. There are at least three great routes from Santa Cruz that take me into the mountains, down to the coast and back. Not by accident do I live in SC!

Duarte's it is! Been a long time and was drawing a blank. My 67 has actually been there. My coast run now would be Tillamook. Go with the sport Bil's, they won't fit a SWB though. Driven a 73.5 with those and 26mm rear TB. Owner is contemplating 27's though. Already has a set and a lift. Watched him and another 73 at an AX last summer. We both agreed 27 for that 26 for touring.

Oh yeah, he passed away a few years ago, sadly. Jim Davis too.

Cris Huergas was one of the founders of the R Gruppe back in 2000 when there were only 35 members. I credit him and Freeman Thomas (other founder) with making the early 911 shine to what it is today.
