ANother way to think of it is according to rarity - now and in the next few decades. The supply of original S's with their original motors is small, and will get smaller (accidents, fires, a few people hacking them up).
But there are lots of bigger motors out there, and they can always be put into a T or E.
For whatever reasons, humans value rarity in almost anything...
What about upgraded original engine. 'numbers matching' E 2.8 or 2.9?
Why throw money down a rat's hole? If you have a great car then why not leave well enought alone? Figure on $20-$30k for a well done 2.8 with all the fixins'. The 2.7 RS motor that Jeff Gamroth sold went for around $15k or better and a 2.8 is a little more work to do correctly.
Ask Kurt Zimmerman about engines. I'm sure he can give you some bank account "shock" stories. :eek:

I love original cars but I also appreciate a well done custom. Freeman Thomas' '69 911-S (October 2004 Excellence) with the 2.8 in it was imho one of the best mild customs I've ever seen. We have lots of them around here too. How about I start a sort-of redundant thread?
