Porting heads

Jon Cramer has a great thread on the engine rebuilding forum over on Pelican about mods to the 2,0 N

I like the idea of the 901/30 rally still - same 39/35 valves , 32/32 ports. S cams.
compression up to 9,8 - 150 hp.

I also like my engine - fly cut N heads with 2.2E p/c's and the Solex cam.
That , I have been told gives me around 140 - 150 hp with real usable torque.

Depends on how much you want to spend and the driving the car will be used for .
The stock 130 hp is a great engine and 15 - 20 hp will not change the world.

That's my 2cents and it's your $$$$$

Talk about crude... have you seen a factory port job? :D

I had a conversation with Bruce Anderson years ago and he agreed. Basically upen them up with a vertical mill. Of course you want the job done right and cleaned up properly but, it's a fairly simple technique.

Oh, so the factory just milled "normal" cast T heads to make E and S heads? Meaning, the E and S heads were not "as cast", they were had machined ports from the factory??

Not so tricky after all ....

If you can point me to an available set of 2.2 (same as 2.4) MFI heads for $150, I'll buy five sets. Just kidding. When I needed a good set of core 2.2 MFI heads, I shopped far and wide from reputable sources and prices were consistently $100 to $125 per head, not for a whole set of six. Just a reality check. Maybe the early heads for carbs are cheap? Dunno. :)

I have two sets of 2.2 heads that have been sitting on my shelf for over a year...The most I have ever got for a set was 200.00. Let me know if you want a set I don't like clutter;)
