Hi Sam
Nice job of lighting the picture. Here one taken on the same day in Inveraray. You can just see the top of the castle which is the ancient seat of the Duke of Argyll. You guys on the West Coast may have all the good weather but here in Scotland we have the roads and scenery to make up for the weather :)

The Duke of Argyll? Hey, I have some of his socks! Seriously, great pic, gorgeous car...
71e. Irish Green, Tan Vinyl, restored in 03.
73s, one respray in original aubergine. Otherwise 100% original.
89 Turbo. 100% stock. 1560 Miles. That's right!
How long have you owned this 930?Quote:

Tom, if my wife finds out about these cars of mine, well, you probably remember Lorena Bobbit! Until then, while she's not an RS, she is very nice.

OK I give up, help somebody, please. This pic is taken in High resolution and when I shrink it and many others down so that the site will accept them all I get is this crap
Help!!!!!!
Clyde
Very Nice Stacy! What a great mix of older and modern Porsches. Must be hard to choose which one to drive. :)
Clyde,
I know your frustrations. I usually host my photos on Rennlist, which has a 200K limit on photo size. What size is the original photo when you take it? The photo above is only 435X327 or 68K, which is probably compressed too much from the original. You might want to reduce the setting size on your camera to take 800X600 or 1000X750 images.
Send the original photos to fryardds@csinet.net and I will put them up for you.
:)

Could you show a picture of under the hood? I'd like to see the "wiring harness".

In you photo software, set the resolution to 90 dpi and then size as needed. When you save it, you will have a nice image and a reasonable file size to upload.
Here my "lowly" T in action (75 pixels/inch resolution). Ignore the smoke, my top end fixed that problem.

I just saw your car SWBS, it's great, what is the color code, is this the 6809 Tangerine?
You have provided a model for what I want my Tangerine 1968 S to look like when I'm done "undoing" the PO's mistakes.

Hi
Those rally lights have not been wired up yet. waiting on a friend to wire it up.
My brother's orange 911 is all wired up. I can try to get him to email a pic.
Thanks for the advice guys I have been taking pictures in too high a resolution it seems, good for printing , no good for posting.
I found one or two smaller ones so I will try them when I take some smaller ones will try again.
Lets hope this one works OK

There's something mystic about just holding the steering wheel. I'm going to miss this one. <sniff> Hell, I'm going downstairs to sit in it. The 7's are an nos dealer option. S trim, sway bars.
Maybe it was told before, but what is the story with that cars interior.....?
Dave, it was just dirty from 30 years in a barn. Now it's not! :) Just elbow grease and a light touch brought the entire thing back to new.
Jens,
What did you sell it for?
Michael
Well, while I truly appreciate the beauty of such an amazing low mileage original car, my passion is building "R" beasts. And modifying this car would have gotten me assasinated for certain. And you can't drive Porsches if yer dead! :( :D So out it goes!! My dear friend will keep it in his collection.
Jens:
Someday, I am going to have to learn the secret of finding cars in barns. How many barns do you have to look into to find a car like that? How many times do you get shot at before you finally are successful.
What a beaut!!! Cleaning that car must have been just a true labor of love!!! How did the paint hold up over the years? It looks really sharp!!
larry
I was surely a labor of love, but I was spared the pleasure. The paint is glorious.
Jens:
Did I miss something? I see that it's a 73 coupe, but what flavor? T, E, S, and what mileage? And how didja find it? Or just point me to the thread that has this story in it.
larry
Here is a pic from my last tour through the mighty cheese state with a few of my buddies. Included, you'll find three 911s cars from '69, '74 and '77. I did my best to lead the pack, but that '88 928 S4 has some serious muscle once we started breaking speed limits!
Well I didn't find this one in a barn; found it at the dump.
Jens had his paws on this one too - on the wheels at least.

'73 models do look nice with the earlier bumperettes don't they?
They are not "earlier" bumperettes they are correct for all 73 cars in Australia we didn't have to have those oversized rubber horns that ruin the look of so many USA cars.
Yeah, darn them 'muricans.
NICE cars....you finally got the PICS posted. Really lookin' NICE!!!!!!! ;)
Beautiful car Clyde...
... must be a late build (March or after)
Cheers mate,
Thanks Stacey and Chuck. It is actually the first RHD 2.4S Targa ever to make it to Australia as RHD Targas did not exist until 1973. First registered in July 1973 build was in April I think Chuck
Hope to have it completed by Xmas this year but as you can see its not that far away but its always the last smaller jobs that seem to hold the project up.
It hasn't been on the road yet but its starts beautifully and runs as smooth as is possible, wish my RS sounded as good.
Thnaks to Brian for posting the pics I have completely given up, no matter what size I take the pics in it says they are too big to post!!!!!
Awesome cars!
I've spent way way way too much $ and time on my car and it still doesn't even come close to some of the things I'm seeing here. I'm starting to see that you really don't get results like that unless you do it all yourself. Who else is going to obsess over it to that degree. When I told my incredibly understanding and long suffering girlfriend that I was buying an early 911 she complained to her girlfriend, "Now we'll never get a house." The wise friend replied,"No. You don't get it. Now he's going to want a house because he's going to need a garage." Women! It's amazing the way thier minds work.
I managed to get my car together in time to compete in this year's Targa Newfoundland. Too bad there weren't any other Registry cars there. I posted some images in another thread.
Thanks to the people who responded to my search for a cylinder head for my '69S. I found two NOS heads at Parts Obsolete. Thanks Gary Emory.
... some A.R.B. (after roll bar) pics... :)
Handsome ride Chuck!

Maybe, but I wonder if Chuck would be willing to take that fabulous beast of his for a run at the Targa - I would hope not.
From what I've seen it can get quite messy.
You are so lucky to have an early car that you can get filthy with ,although your car sure does look clean in the pics - and that 356 - geez maybe you're both nuts to use such nice cars to rally.
I wish I could bring myself to use my car like that.

I've wanted to do an early 911 in Gulf colors for as long as I can remember...
That is beautifully executed. Thanks for showing it off.
Looks great.
Hey Gulf...the picture in front of the garage is "something else"...it's almost like...you wann'a lick it!...veery sexy.../ Lars...
Since the 70's I have always lusted after a early silver car, exactly like Jens. Thanks a lot for keeping the flame alive! That is especially true now that my car is going in for paint (unfortunately keeping it GP White due to value). In the new lust dept. Gulf's car is absolutely breathtaking. So many gorgeous cars and so little wallet!
John
Okay. We were a little nuts but that's what these cars were built for.The harder I pushed it the better it ran. It's like the car thrives on it.
I think Gulf911 would back me up on this one. That thing looks even more awesome in action by the way.
A.T.
I agree 100% A.T., as an example myself and a couple buddies all drove our cars to the track in Pahrump nevada, about 300 miles, raced for 2 days, then drove home another 240 miles without a problem. Why the difference on the way home? It seems there is a shorter way to get to pahrump that I neglected to see in the event paperwork

OK, so it's a "late-model" but what the heck!
Euro 2.7 MFI Carrera with factory-style sport muffler, ITG air filters, Minilites, Bilstein 'race' dampers, BF Torino Nurburgring seats, 911R-style lights etc etc
Great look KS...
Thanks Chuck. I like it, too! Also has 'through the hood' fuel filler. future additions are a Matter aluminum rear roll-cage and an RS Lightweight-style interior. Oh, and some more horsepower. Can't get enough of that!
[QUOTE=gulf911]I agree 100% A.T]
I also agree and raise you another 10% !
I sure hope someday I'm crazy enough to take my car on that run. Now if I could only find someone crazy enough to navigate with me behind the wheel.
John
Let's see if this works...
Nope. 98 KB is too large?

Hello what size minilites and tires are those on your car. I am thinking of using minilites on my early porshe as well.
Thank You let me know

Howdy,
Cool car!!...I think I saw your motor over at Mr. Faragallahs...Is it for this car?
Just returned from Switzerland where 911 & Porsche World comes out sooner than in the states. The latest issue, (October I think), has a great detailed article on back dating the G bodied cars to the pre impact bumper days. Keith uses is own 74 Euro carrera for the article. Definatly worth reading as the pictures tell the story. See above posting picture from KS.
Back dating has been going on in Europe for a while. Curt A. has the first backdated car I have seen over here. I think in the future there is going to be a lot more of it happening here in the states.

This is a '77 with a bolt-on (bolt-off) system. Glass hood latches in the stock '77 striker (no mods). Notice the line where the filler panel meets the stock '77 fender. I'll fill and paint that area on my white car when I back-date it. The rear reflector panel needs the backing panel cut out (no big deal) to accept the early license panel/rear bumper setup.
This is my latest aquisition - a 1973 911E that was converted from new by the supplying Dealer to Carrera RS Touring spec using all Factory parts.
I bought it from fellow Registry member Will Sanchez in Ca - looking forward to seeing it 'in the flesh' in ~ a month's time...

Hi Jens,
Hope you are feeling way better.
That back dating looks like a good answer for the 82SC Targa I'm in the process of buying. Are there kits for this conversion?
OK, I couldn't wait. Here are a couple of Pictures of Kermit, taken along the Blue Ridge Parkway last week. What a Ride!!!!!

John
Thanks, Chuck.
Lars, it's probably a good thing you can't hear it. My mechanic and I have yet to sort out the MFI/ignition issues. The back fires were down right scary. Some day I hope it'll sound as smooth as S.M.s at the begining of "LeMans".
A.T.
John
From Toronto it's a two day drive to North Sydney, Nova Scotia and then a 9 hour overnight ferry ride to Argentia, Newfoundland, plus an hour drive from there to St. John's. Or you take a quick three hour flight and have the car shipped on a transport for about 2k Canadian or about 1600 US. We flew, fortunately. On the return trip we flew out as scheduled. All the people taking the ferry got hosed because of that hurricane. The ferry got cancelled and the next one was a week later. Some people drove across the island and took the alternate ferry a couple days later. The weather is a bit screwy there.
A.T.
It's not quite the correct sound, but it's close. The car sounded a little like this: Engine SoundQuote:

Here's my 72t with "s" options including recaros and power windows. Seats are now in my targa and I have a set of Peter Zwinakis seats.
1995 3.6 motor, late carrera suspension with smart racing stuff, Xenons, RS carpet, deleted the A/C, glass front hood and tail, talbot mirror (I just like it?), etc, etc etc...
Other stablemates: 72 gulf blue 911E targa, and a 1973 Gemini blue, non-sunroof solid 911t CIS (may be for sale very soon).
All California cars, but I recently moved to WA
I'll post better pix once I am settled in here.
PS Anyone want to be my Porsche friend here in WA???? Ugh lots of cops here. I am used to hitting 140mph on the 215 in So Cal :(
PPS The possibly for sale 73.5 is still in CA.

RB, what part of Washington are you in? There are lots of us up here, see this thread:

Also you will find some guys and info on the NW section of the Pelican board.
I'm in Redmond, east of Seattle.
Oooooh good info!
I'm actually in Issaquah and have one (non-porsche) friend here :(
Soooo I will definitely join the local clubs etc...
Hmmm embarrasing though: I have NEVER been in a club or group. Also I DESPERATELY NEED drivers Ed - I have never really autocrossed yikes or other.
I mainly wax rice cookers on the Cali freeways...
I have been working on 911s since I was 19. I do most anything my rental garages will allow, haven't tackled paint yet but that's coming once I have a home. My first 911E (had 10 years)with a 3.0 was sold to Tom Tweed in San Diego a while back. I kinda want it back ;) .
My 72 now with 3.6 was bought from Peter Zwinakis (Vintage Seats).
Thanks for the info! I really hope to be at the next local event, I am a die hard 911 fanatic.

Here's the 73.5t I may have to sell, depending on employment and income here.... will only sell if I get desperate or if someone offers crazy money :p
I don't know if you can still get in but there is a Porsche Club Drivers Skills Day tomorrow. This is an EXCELLENT introduction to performance driving your Pcar. Last opportunity until next spring. Here is the info:

Here's a pic of my Pastel Blue '70E against the autumn Ozark mountains. 2.7 MFI, Carrera front suspension, Boxster brakes. 195hp at the rear wheels, 175 ft/lb of torque...not bad me thinks! Lots of fun anyway.
Old fart that I am, it's hard to refer to you as RussianBlue and Trash Smasher
however, your cars look GREAT...
Very familiar with the color on Russian's cars ... and Smasher's looks to be one of the sleepers of all time... ;)
Welcome to the board ... and hopefully you'll join the club...
Cheers,
Russian Blue, welcome to the soggy NW. We have a loosely formed group of loyalists who get info here on get togethers, runs, etc - not affiliated with any club, just a good group of enthusiasts: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/forum...45&forumid=249

I still haven't finished the silver '73 after all these years-- too busy driving it to get it painted at first, and then I blew the 3.0 up at Willow Springs missing a shift on the front straight, so I dropped in a hotrod 3.4 which thinned my wallet too far to do anything else. Here's some pics of it from a couple weeks ago when I ran it at Thunderhill Raceway in a DE, still with primer on the RS flares.
http://members.rennlist.com/tweedt/thillcomp.jpg
In deference to the budget picture now that I am retiring, I ran my '67S on street tires in the PCA-SDR autox series this year and skipped the Time Trial series. This 37-year-old stocker put the hurt on the GS/S class, winning every event by a wide margin in its class, and posted TTOD on overall indexed time at 4 events. It often beat the 993s, 996s and Boxster S models on raw time with its scrawny little 2.0 motor!

Ahhhhhhhhhh my silver bullet 73E!!!!!!!
My first 911, and my first restoration/modification project.
I built that 3.0 somewhere around 1989, well top end at least.
Well Tom, if you ever wanna sell it - I'd buy it just for sentimental reasons - and I'd paint it!! :)
Oh the 930, rebuilt that thing too and it was very tolerable on "lag" with the mods ets...
Darn thing wouldn't pass visual in Cali... sold it to a Philip Kahn in Colorado.
But yes my heart is with the early light cars. Someday I'll have a late model again, but always an early car in the garage.
Anyhow good to see you drive it, obviously.
Not into garage queens, unless they are really special cars etc...
:)
Jeeze Tom, what are you running for rubber on that there silver weiner. The thing looks *very* capable. ;)
Those were some old (3-4 years) Hoosier R3S03s in 245F and 275R I was trying to use up at the DE, on 8 & 9 x 16" Fuchs. Have to use a 1/4" spacer in the rear to clear the spring plate bolts and the Phase9 mufflers, and the sidewall still rubs a little at full flex on the inside. I got down to a 2:16 at Thunderhill on my first visit with those old hard tires, once the track warmed up in the afternoon and I had run 4 sessions to learn the line and got a little more aggressive, and I was happy with that. The car would have done a 2:12 with fresh rubber and a little more abandon, I think, but it had rained for several days before the event and we had been warned of mud bogs at the driver's meeting that might require a tow if we went off the track, so I was playing it conservative.Quote:

Here's my 1972 E Targa, Gulf Blue and Not ONE spec of rust but evidence of prior accident to right rear - bummer. 80,xxx original miles.
There were 861 E targas made in 1972 - this is number 800. Kinda rare? Bah, it's fun to drive and I'm not a targa dude. It's headed for restoration once I am employed again :p
For some reason this car gets tons of comments, more so than my 3.6 72t - and I do not understand it at all - I find it rather odd - any opinions on this?
I think maybe it's cuz of the color and targa thing, I dunno, it's all good...

Gulf Blue - it sure looks good on that Targa.
My Plymouth Valient was a light blue with a white top - and The ladies loved it.
Tom - That's what I like to hear about - a SWB that looks like that AND KICKS ASS !!!

This one old lady with her walker made her way from half a block away to tell me that she really liked the color... yeah she was 90 years old but she really liked it.
The recaros in it are from my 72 3.6 and are blue but the original seats were tan and cord/clothe.
I'll restore it back to a new tan interior with some special combo on the seats, not sure what yet.

That pic off I-90 with the mtns in the background is a knock out. Love the wheels. Did you do a full polish?
Hey any chance I could get some pix of your 73S????? (I mean me come over and take pix)Quote:

I can't afford a formal finish and am not sure what I really want.
I was thinking a partial flat finish or mostly all flat "silver" triple anodized I believe they call it??
Sithot you are lucky to ride in that thing, I don't even think I have seen one in real life.
Man, I missed the G&W open house again! I was thinking it was later on this month or first of December. There were a few of us from NC thinking of going, maybe next year. How was it Tom?

NNNNNNNiiiiiiiiiiiicccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love that action shot.
John
Russian,
You don't want pics of the Mighty Whitey right now. The interior has been gutted except for dash, driver's seat, pedals, and shifter. The exterior is missing bumpers, front and rear lids. It is 'drivealbe' enough to get it down to the shop to have the motor/tranny pulled, before it is flatbeded to more tear-down, sanding and paint. It may be photogenic around the New Year.
RHD Aussie delivered 2.4E. With S cams and RS flares, 7's & 8's, sunroof, 164,000 miles. Complete rebuild and bare metal respray about 2 years ago. Very tight and quick.
;)
:) :D Getting closer
Man, that is just sick.
You have some of the nicest cars on earth, really.
I can hardly wait until that one is done.
KEEP POSTING!

I spoke to the snapper & he said that speed gave the best impression of speed whilst still getting the focus right. Clever & yet simple innit? :D
Looks sweet Eade! When its on the big track and I'll try to stay with you with the in car video rolling. Home movies I could sit through. ;)Quote:

Eade,
The car looks INCREDIBLE. Tom is doing some AMAZING work. I saw your other photos in the testing section that you posted. Can't wait to see it up close!!!! When do you think it will be on the road??
Hopefully in the next 30 days, we will see. :pQuote:

That might be Duane's Kremer RS. The 3 litre BEAST! :D
Tom and you have done a very nice job designing this RSR. It will be a great addition to your Already "Royal Stable"...
84 carrera suspension, RSR coil overs, real RSR front strut brace, but we are not painting it. The motor is 3.6, 46mm PMO's, 6 coils, crank fired, built 831 transmission, 11 & 9 Fuchs, just done by Harvey, hopefully may be on the road in 30 days. :D :DQuote:

Everytime you would drive off, I would tell myself, that is not tooooo loud for the street. :D  Hope to be on the road with it soon. Take care.Quote:

Oh, and if anyone wants to know, the car had been black (cheap respray) and was originally Irish Green. So its not original in that sense. The colour is Acid Blue. Also, sorry for the photo quality, but I only thought of taking them once I had parked the car.
Well done, or re-done I should say.
That color turned out nice.

Autocross at the Sonoma County Airport...
Been a long time lurker, thought I would introduce myself. I first bought my '67 911 in 1970. Enjoyed 5 years of my youth driving the car, but with marriage, kids and lack of money I sold it to a friend, who later sold it to another friend. To make a long story short I back I bought it again in 1990, but it was in bad shape: rusted front end and torque tube, tired motor, rotted interior from the window's left down, the works. I then went through 5 years restoring it myself (no close up's!), except the front end sheet metal. Bumped the motor to 2.2, stiffer torsion and sway bars and the much love/hated American Mags. I bought these in the 70's from a guy who raced 356's, and just like the uniqueness. Love those fuch's though! So, now I try to squeeze some weekends in Northern Ca with the R gruppe, but too many hobbies make it tough, especially this year. Anyway, just wanted to say hi so you would know who is behind some of my posts.
Welcome Doug.
I really like that mag look - did you have any trouble fitting them ? What are the sizes ?
Car looks real fine from here- nice job.
Now let us know the names and addresses of those who abused that car and we'll form a posse.
John
Doug...Nice nasty look with those mags and the bad ride height...Great looking beast....Good job....I'll bet she's happy beeing back with you....
Thanks for the comments. The origional owner had the fenders flaired slightly to put on some gastly Ansen mags with a wierd off-set. As the front has tons of clearance, even at a low ride height, I suspect that the flair may have been trimmed, but I am no expert. They seemed to do a good job doing the flair however, as they have held up well. These are 7" with 225/15 AVS. Here is a picture I posted on another thread.
Nice look Doug! :D And a great story.
Doug;
Did you have any probs fitting the lugs ?
You wouldn't be in the Los Altos area would you ?
John
No problem with lugs, other than finding replacements. Some good info in previous post "is this cornpanzer's" about lugs. Tough to get, but cornpanzer had good input on some alternatives. I am in Los Gatos, work in PA, so do pass through Los Altos at times.
I couldn't hold out any longer.
Ride no. 1 is pictured below - 73 RS rep tarmac rally car (with the odd circuit race thrown in). The engine is a 7R 2.7 with MFI, GE80's, 10.5:1 Arias pistons etc. It WAS making a little over 200hp to the rear wheels (until I put most of a valve into the no. 1 combustion chamber at my last event...). Started stripping the motor on the weekend.
Ride no. 2 (aka sensible street car) is a black/black, non sunroof 78 930 with a "Kremer package). I will keep the pic's away from your "impact bumper sensitive" eyes...
Ride no. 3 is a 70 911T targa roughie that i bought to do an early speedster project thing on but think i will sell on to a mate who has promised to "save" it
A bit late in posting any images of my car and a bit sad 'coz I just sold it :( .
Anyway, I thought that you state side guys might like a look.

Hashman, that car looks great! Why did you sell it?! Awesome color, awesome stance, great mirrors (sorry to rub it in...)
Its not all bad, I sold 'coz I now have a sweet little '59 356A that needs doin up.
Thanks for the compliments turbo dave.
And to everyone have a Happy Christmas. :)
Cleeen machine there Karl!
hashman, What color? Is it Gemini?
My '72S is smack dab in the middle of the Portland PacWest R Gruppe brothers on this fun run last Saturday.
Front to back at sunset are Steve Barrager's Light Ivory '71E, Tom Wilkinson's Tangerine '73 911 w/ 2.7RS MFI, my Metallic Blue '72S w/ 2.7RS MFI, Howard Lazarus' Ferrari Red '72 911 "hot rod" with RS flares and carb'd 3.0, and Earl Green's Burgandy '70E w/ 2.7 "BA" spec motor. Great light!
Hashman,
What a beauty. Glad you got some cherry pics of it before it moved on. Hopefully the new owner will appreciate it as much as you. It is a drop dead beauty. Be sure to post some pics of your new project, because if it comes out as nice as the blue car.....
Regards,
Man, I agree... Hashman, to me ya-got-da-look and da-set-up just right... :)
And... Great pic Randy... I trust there was some 'sprited' drive'n along the way... ;)
Absolutely! This will be the last pic of my car with faded roof - it goes in for some paint/body resoration next month! With any luck, there will be at least two good looking metallic blue cars in Monterey.. ;)Quote:

I can smell the mold from simply looking at the interior shot....Quote:

RickS and Chuck thanks also, I will definately posts pics, just as soon as I get it up and running and sitting 'just right'.
More pictures in the works, courtesy of a better photographer than me:
Don't sell yerself short Jack. Some of my favorite photos of one of my favorite cars were snapped by you.
Keep it up. :D
Thanks. Here's my own shot, from the same day (last Thursday).
I agree Jens...super picture Jack.
E.
Another shot for the archives Jack. :D Tell us about the sub-spoiler. (?)
And another note- I'm impressed that as hard as you run that beast on the track, it can still look so dam good for a porn shoot. Do you repaint the thing every week? ;)
Looks like he ran it down the slopes at Stowe on a spring day....
She sure looks like a filthy one - even when she's clean.
John
:) '71 911t

Interior upgrades Rennshifter, GTS nurburgring seats, prototipo wheel , RS panels
The car came stock with S calipers.
More pics
I guess I should post my 72' T Coupe while it's still mine before it goes on the selling block. Next week.
Bobby... :(
Sorry to hear that. Please let me have a shot at it. :o
Shawn.
Shawn, huh ? did you finaly add on to your garage ? :D
nice looking car for sure.
John
Tom, did you let your '73S go???
Tom !
Speaking of nuts ! - I'm not sure who is more so - You for selling that S or Shawn for selling you that SWB.
Or maybe me wishing I had another.
I'm sure its found a good garage, and selling in this market is certainly not so nuts. Nor is your keeping the SWB. (even IF that would make me #2 in the SWB Gruppe)
