Always cool to have the Kardex. I mean really, we've learned SO much from them ! We knew it wasn't a deLuxe because the first one is 304703 and EVERY car after than including the last one 304955 was a deLuxe. Thanks.

Hi Jim,
Your car fits right in with what we know about the conversion. You didn't post a Kardex, so if you have one please do. But, I'm pretty sure your car came with a 903XXX (not 907xxx = Webers) engine number too!
To be clear, the deLuxe thread has been slightly derailed as happens and I know we'll get back on track. But for the record the Solex to Weber change happened February 1966. The first deLuxe was made AROUND June 1966. So, the Solex-Weber factory change has really nothing to do with deLuxes. Porsche had been putting Webers on 911 starting in February so ALL deLuxes came with Webers. One of the reasons the were "deLuxe" :D Thanks.
Allen, When did the engines change the left chain cover and cam towers to the late style? I always thought is was for the 68MY but with the mid year changes you have found, is that correct?
H
Engine 903360 (see post #192) was the first Solex engine w/ spray bar. Is that (spray bar) what you mean w/ late style? Or is late style the 11 bolt lower (mag) cover? That one came w/ MY 1968 when also the mag chain boxes were introduced.
The left chain cover changed w/ the 90700X (the first weber engine).
Richard
Yes the chain cover changed with 907XXX (as it was no longer machined for the twin pump) but the casting in the cover still had a place for the fuel pump but it wasn't machined out (see my pic above). I think Harvey might be asking when the style cover ended? Do we know if all the left hand seven screw covers had the place for the pump?
Hi Cliff,
I think we are getting more evidence that the deck lids (emblem, etc.) and, for that matter, all other features of a "1967 deLuxe," were in fact the same as a standard 1966 MY Porsche 911. With accident damage common on all cars, and the rear deck lid often damaged in rear end accidents, the one on your car was probably replaced and a good repair job, with welded up (unused) holes,
even, done. Looking at ALL the deLuxes we've seen collectively, as a group, would seem to indicate they were regular 1966 models.
This makes sense, given our thesis, that the deLuxe was a Porsche program to sell "left over" 1966 models as deLuxe 1967 MY models along with the 1967 "normal" (decontented compared to old 1966 MY 911) and the new 1967 911S.
I might add the self-serving statement that my original post which is almost five years old now regarding deLuxes has turned out to be correct: it was a short-lived third 1967 model and there were a lot more of them then we first expected. There was 253 deLuxes built ! BUT we still have NOT found the elusive Rundschrieben 13/66 which documented the deLuxe program, even if we have Kardex "proof" that they existed. Of course, in that there was never to our knowledge a brochure or other sales literature this third model was never "official." We also don't know if there was a sales incentive to sell them. They were sold in both Germany an the U.S. at least.
Allen, That is question. Did all 67 MY have the chain cover with the casting for the twin pump? Was it changed exactly at the end of the 67 MY? What did the early 68 alu cases have? Apologies for off track from deluxe info....
