Reintroducing a storied car to the Early 911S Registry...

Hey Rick:

Back in the spring, I sold the car to an enthusiast friend who is loving the car as much as I did. My life has become completely overwhelmed with family life and career and I wasn't able to give the car the attention it deserved.

It continues to drive completely reliably and spirited and has never let any of us down in the seven years I've known it.
Don't be surprised to see it on Instagram sometime on some sort of cross country trip. It is driven and enjoyed.

I have to admit I got a little choked up a few weeks back when the new owner (my buddy) sent me the below picture from the Blue Ridge Parkway:

As the third owner, he was channeling Captain Mike, way back from page one of this thread.
Below is the Blue Metallic 68L trade-in on my car and Captain Mike, way back in Sept. 68.

Got a liiiittle choked-up, too --- reading that you'd parted with the car. Yours was one of the stories --- of car + owner . . . that I always looked forward to

Seven years, you say? . . . thought it was longer

But --- a lot can happen in seven years, huh? . . . and not just with cars

I always say --- cars aren't just about money . . . it's about what you had to give-up to buy/own/keep 'em around

So I hope the car gave you something back when it left . . . and not just money


And glad to see that you're still here/posting


Maybe you can persuade The Next Owner to contribute some, as well? . . .

Not my car anymore, but it has a social media presence now as it goes through an amazing repaint at Road Scholars.

Why would someone repaint that original paint car?

It was an original paint car until 1980.

I saw the car recently. It looks fabulous. Still in the hands of a good friend who is treating it well. Eliminated the erroneously placed passenger side mirror and waiting to replace the side stripes.

It's part of a collection of air cooled Porsches that includes numerous four cams, other early 911s, a few PreAs, and some top of the world VWs, including a 46 Beetle and 69 Notchback with under 5k miles.

Raising a young family has my priorities focused on vicariously enjoying these old cars at the moment.
