Awesome . . . and your 1st post?
I still remember first seeing all those pictures --- you really really need to start a separate thread on 9111300152 . . . how you found her + why this car, what you did + needed doing . . . what its like . . . yours is 'One of Those Cars' . . .
Welcome
. . . . more detail pics . . .
Outfit's still around, by-the-way . . .
http://carousel.porschedealer.com/about_us/
. . . actually another . . .
See posts #96, 97, and 99 above
From the '69 PDL . . .
Neufeld Motors, Inc
281 El Camino Real
San Carlos, CA
. . . becoming . . .
Neufeld Porsche Audi
(same address)
. . . sometime in '70
Meduim blue lettering over a dull white back-round, flash-chromed, no marks/maker ID's
Plate = std CA pass iss w/ yr-of-exp reg tag
Here's the one that came with my car when purchased new from Lavia in 1972.
I thought about doing a clean-up on this and repainting it until finding this post here.
Now I'm thinking that it may be best left in original condition, just like the car it came on.
Though the car shows much better than this crispy, pitted and faded example.
Great collection, Rick !

Looks perfect to me, Mark. Leave it as is! Part of your car's birthright...
I run this on my car in it's original patina.

You Guys are lucky . . .
I don't think very many people are fortunate enough to even know where their car came from . . . much less to have the frame from that place
So --- to have the original frame? . . . still w/ the car? . . .
That's cosmic, Gentlemen
These things were never meant to last this long . . . like the vehicles they attach to. That's why I so esteem all the wear/patina/rot . . . reminds me of all those long-ago + far-away places, where they've come from + been to, the roads traveled, the miles . . . times passed
And that's why I don't like to restore stuff. 'Cause making things pretty? . . . takes away their magic --- IMO
I have some frames that're just too damaged to stay on the car --- but too stupid-rare for me to pass, so . . . they'll get less-than-restored/more than repaired. I'm still trying to find an outfit to help me put some of my Humpty-Dumpties back together again. Not pretty. When I get that far, I'll post
(And does anyone have any experience w/ this kinda repair? Love to hear from ya!)
In the mean time . . . you Guys enjoy your souvenirs/treasures
. . . and thanks for showing them
Going by the address, there were two names for this outfit . . .
Earliest, from the Aug '68 PDL . . .
426/015/1
Daly City Volkswagen Co, Inc
6918 Mission Street
Daly City, CA 94014
. . . then, in the Apr '69 PDL . . .
Ed Norris Volkswagen
(ditto)
No references after Apr '69, so the latest this vendor could've sold Porsches new would've been MY1970
Dull white lettering on a dull red back-round, flash-chromed, no maker's marks/ID. Std CA pass plate, yr-of-exp reg tag . . . although that 'C' prefix reg number makes me suspicious . . . could be a later tag someone stuck on there, or --- worse a repro reg tag
Nice/tidy/straight-enough . . . and not very exciting --- at first --- but w/ some interesting little details. Light machined 'LP-type' scribing inside the letter-box . . . seen that before. But now look closer . . . inside the 'checks' of the checkerboards, at the lower corners. See the very faint incised scribing, there, as well? Another way to spot OG stuff. Later repro frames can reproduce the checkerboard --- but only coarsely. This little detail? . . . not
Here's another Norris
See a lot of this --- multiple brands sold out of one franchise . . . especially VW + Porsche. I'm guessing but . . . I don't think Porsche was that big of a seller, at this time --- especially compared to VW . . . and so I expect this to be reflected in any dealers' frames. Why would anyone tool-up a special (ie. Porsche-specific) bit, for just a handful of cars? Better to go w/ something generic --- or make something work . . . w/ stuff you're selling a ton of
Besides, this outfit only ever called itself a Volkswagen outlet --- 'Porsche' was never in their Co name . . .
Makes any frame w/ such a reference even more curious, I think
Anyway, dull white lettering in a dull yellow/orange (maybe?) back-round, flash-chromed, no maker's mark/ID. Same CA plate as per above
Very very delicate details, in the lower corners and especially to the Porsche crest --- maybe not the 'staghorns', so much . . . but look at the horsey's legs + tail. Don't think this kinda stuff would survive a re-chrome
