Dull white letters on a metallic blue back-round, flash-chromed. Reg CA pass iss plate + reg, ~'97 issue. Frame presents as unrestored . . . beautiful
Saw this frame before, several years back, on this same car --- 1x v.spectacular Tango 2.2 'S' coupe (+ SMMTaG loves that color) . . . out at one of the Ventura Shows. Caught up w/ it, here . . . finally

. . . sometime after --- mid-'70s?
Dull white lettering on a dull medium blue-gray back-round, flash-chromed, no maker's marks/ID. Chrome has dulled/decayed to a pearl gray . . . but almost zero pitting/corrosion of the base metal = spectacular condition, especially for something that's four decades old . . . and on the backs of cars for at least two. Plate = std AZ pass iss, '69 base-plate w/ yr-of-exp reg stickers
Technically not a Longhood frame, but my oldest --- and a sentimental favorite . . . . bought at one of the Porsche-Corvette swap-meets held at the L.A. County fairgrounds . . . late '80s, I'm guessing. Ran this on my old Roadster for years, left w/ that car when I sold it. Gone. Then? Got it back for the asking, from Richie King, at the '12 Phoenix Show. Ran this for the last year on 1059 . . . now benched
. . . prior to ~'74-or-so . . .
. . . for anyone interested, here's a thread on that topic . . .

Endres Motors, Inc
339 West Avenue I
Lancaster, CA
. . . as seen on a low-light Karmann Ghia, at yesterday's Pomona Swap . . . two versions!
One looks to be OG --- the by-now regulation (almost) dull blue lettering on a dull white back-round on the bottom . . . + the reverse on top (?)
Can't tell for sure, but this second one may've been 'freshened-up' some --- courtesy of a band-sander/polisher, maybe? . . . w/ chrome lettering showing-up in a blue back-round. No makers' marks/ID visible
Run across + got a few of these kindsa treatments . . . and this is exactly the kinda thing that makes figuring-out what's what w/Old Frames so problematic. I believe all flash-chroming takes place first --- then any paint is applied over. Nothing really sticks to chrome (for long) so seeing one of these treatments always begs the question . . . 'what did it really look like?' . . . especially compared w/ the other somewhat-more-OG-looking example on the front
Based on all the other dealer frames that I've seen? --- I'd go w/ the blue + white combo, but . . . I've only ever seen this Endres frame twice . . .
. . . and both? . . . are on this car . . . so . . .
Anyway, plate is a Olde Tyme CA pass iss --- aka '56 plate' . . . aka 'gold plate' . . . issued from '56 to '62 . . . when it was replaced by the notorious 'black plate.' Still available through various hobby-type sources, and can still be registered --- as long as . . .
1) . . . one has both plates, and . . .
2) . . . the sequence is NOT currently registered ('gold' plates share the same number-letter formats + sequences as 'black'), and . . .
3) . . . one has the appropriate 'Year-of-Manufacture' (YoM) sticker . . . also available ditto
Apparently, CA DMV is looking to get into the business of re-issuing old plates . . .
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/legacyplates/index.htm
. . . but one would still need to source the YoM sticker
One more thing. YoM sticker indicates this should be a '59-year model vehicle, but a 'G-series' plate would've probably been issued ~late '57-to-early '58. Period photos are the best way to check/verify
