Trim Delete Engine Lid Alu
Here is the lid in the spray booth for color.
Next image shows the used 2,5 ST alu lid on the hot rod. Note that this lid had been drilled in the area of the grille surround for mounting rainguards, indicating use on a car with high butterfly injection.
Rainguards were introduced by the Race Department on the ST for use with the high butterfly injection system, replacing the Sport Kit II / 911 R style rain hats used for the same purpose on the Weber 46s of the carburetted race engines that went before. The same high butterfly ST style rainguards continued in use for the RSR.
The third image shows how the rainguards will look when mounted onto the engine lid. The rainguards are made up from aluminum sheet and fasten to the lid with 1/8 inch rivets.
Rainguards were painted satin black by the Race Department, the same finish applied to the ones for the hot rod. The bottom sides of the rainguards were left in bare alu.

Horn Grille Cavities Satin Black - brushed
The team at Automobile Associates hand-brushed a liberal coating of satin black paint in the horn grille cavities, duplicating the factory finish as originally applied on all 911 of this era.
The factory blacked out the horn grille cavities to hide the body color that would otherwise be visible behind the grilles.
If you read the early posts in this thread, you will recall that the RH battery box on the hot rod is shaved, while retaining the LH box. Note that the front of the battery box should also be hand brushed satin black.
The final image shows the Hart Ski sponsored 2,3L ST of 1970 once again. Note that its horn grille cavities had been thoroughly blacked out.

Under the lid and lines in the wheel wells
Just a couple of pics to show the engine compartment in paint and the factory 2,2S oil cooler lines in the RR wheel well.
You can see that the weld line from butt welding the ST flares remains visible.
This look is intentional: it duplicates the typical look of Race Department preparation.

Control Arms - Rallye Spec
The control arms for the hot rod are seen in the first image racked in the paint booth together with the rest of the suspension and interior bits for re-finishing in satin black.
These control arms were gussetted for greater resistance to twisting or bending. These came from a factory prepped Rallye Spec 911.
The guys at MagicSix believe they came this way from the Race Department.
In any event, these old arms provide an unusual detail for the hot rod's suspension and continue the theme introduced by the Rallye Spec gussets on the jack tubes. The jack tube gussets were copied from a fellow board member's 2,5L MY 1972 ST and are identical to the gussets on an SCRS Rothman's rally car sitting at the shop.
The final image shows the No Stone Guard look of the pan in color.

Fresh Bosch Euro Lenses for Directionals
Euro spec directional lenses were used on all factory built 2,3L and 2,5L ST.
As an added benefit, we thought the Euro spec lenses would look best to contrast with the Olive body color.
These came from old dealer stock that was acquired by a vintage parts house. Note that they have chrome surrounds correct for MY 1969-72 as well as the oem Bosch markings.
The Bosch lenses had been in the hot rod's stockpile for a few years and were left boxed until we were ready to use them. I had not actually looked at them until today while visiting at Auto Associates. There is nothing like a complete set of fresh lamps and lenses to make new paint really jump.
Dave Buhain at MS Road & Race in California provided the lenses a few years back. Thank you Dave.

Stone Guards - Oil Coolers
The original factory stone guard for the RH fender mounted oil cooler was refinished with satin black paint.
We had not located an oem stone guard for the LH cooler, a pretty rare piece - and I did not think that Raj would sell me his. However, a fellow board member in California fabricated some LH rock guards for use on a 911R restoration and made them up in aluminum.
Here are some pics of the two rock guards with the coolers.
As you can see, the fabricated 911R piece will require some minor work to make it identical to the RH 911S unit.
During the past few years we found many great parts in California. The LH rock guard was actually "Made in the Great Bear Republic" and I would like to give a big thanks to fellow board member Rolly Resos for providing this nicely fabricated piece for the hot rod.
As a note of interest, the final images attached to this post show the oem Behr oil cooler that was on this 71S. It is painted with factory green primer, unlike the S/STcoolers that BEHR left in bare aluminum.

Sports Security Belts - Rear Harness Mounts
Good close up images of the Race Department style rear harness mounts had not previously been posted, at least not from a vantage point above the parcel shelf.
Perhaps John Gausden in NZ and others might like to see these images for reference and postitioning the rear harness mounts on their own projects.
Also, a thank you is due to Bantam for offering an NOS chrome surround for the heater controls on the dash of the hot rod. Tim: the old one had been sitting on the shelf and is now in place. But again, thanks very much for offering.
Also, thanks to letsrollbabe, John Straub and Bantam for steering me back to the true path. I have seen the light and will remove the glove box door.
