Learn something new everyday. I would suggest trying the 951 8x16's w/245's. You might need some negative camber to get them to clear. I ran 9x16's & 9x17's w/275 Hoosiers on the targa w/2.8 neg. camber and no rubbing issues.

Harold what type of muffler are you running on your RS and S...very nice pair!!
Thanks,
John
I'm surprised you can see them. They were stock mufflers I cut open, removed the stock pipes, welded in my own baffles and added twin center pipes.

Re: flares...Attached are a couple of pics of my '73S with flares. They were added over 20 years ago to fit race tires on 8" wheels. The flares came from an SC or '84+model Carrera and were widened approximately 1/2" to fit Goodyear cantilever race tires which I was running at the time. Although they fit the race tires perfectly it was a challenge to find street tires and rims what worked. I've run this '73S in PCA and POC Time Trials, SCCA Regional Races and SCCA Vintage races for most of it's (and my) life. It's probably not politically correct but I modified the car for racing and that's what I've done with it for many years. Regarding what fits and what doesn't fit under flares...well, for the past several years I've run 8" wheels, with 23MM spacers...and 245/50 tires...the fit is perfect. 9" wheels would also fit. My car was modified to race before collectors decided what is "correct". If you have a stock '69-73 style flare I think you can run a 7x15" wheel with either 205/60's or 225/50's (the max). If the flare is modified as was done with most racers of that era (S's, ST's, etc.) then it's trial and error...but you'd be surprised how much wheel and tire you can get under a flare with a stiff suspension, negative camber...and rolling the fender lip...and of course...the desire/need to be competitive...
My brother has had 7x15 with R-tires on his narrow -72 S when driving autocross. Later he went up to 7x16 in front and 8x16 (944 Turbo Cup) fuchs. He say the change was BIG. The tires he uses now are also R-typ. He claimes that the change is due bigger wheels and more rubber in the rear. I do not remember how wide tires he uses in the rear, I'll check.
951 8" Fuchs should work, but those are 16's.
If you can fit a 7" R rim under a narrow car, where the extra inch in width over a 6" is inboard, and you can also fit normal 15x7's where the extra inch in width is outboard, seems you could fit a 15x8 if it had the same offset as a 6" rim, especially considering all the prior mentioned rims have been fit to normal narrow bodies and the car in question has subtle flares.
However, all the 15x8's that I know of have the same backspace as a 15x7 (non-R), so I guess you could have a 15x7 widened (the same as people have done to deep 6's to make them into R rims), and you'd have some stealthy looking 15x8's that should easily fit. The offset/backspace would be similar to a 951 16x8 fuchs but in a 15 inch size.
Then again, if you have a 15x7 fitted now, and you have the slight flares, you can probably fit a normal 15x8 but tire choice will ultimately be the deciding factor.
My old #0114 looks like having the same rear fenders as #0113. I can say for sure that these rear fenders can not handle 8x15. I ran 7x15 and 205x55 on that and it left no room for more.
I have also checked with my brother, he runs 225x50's on his 8x16 Turbo Cup fuchs and he is real happy with that. If it's a set of wheel to be used on track days I think it's ok to "modernize"....
