Quote from Milou: "This year the factory made a special effort presenting two cars restored. There was a beautiful metallic blue Targa which interestingly had the wrong "black" engine grille instead of a chromed one. Strange the factory would make such an obvious mistake...."
Don't be so sure it is a mistake Milou. My 1971 Targa came from the factory with a black engine grill (it also had a square rear view mirror). For years experts have told me that the black engine grill was NEVER on a 1971. But I have a photo of the car with the original owner and it shows it as black. I assume it was a hidden factory conspiracy to mess with my head:)

blue targa
the blue 911T restored by the factory was sold;it's coming to america along with the 356 carrera speedster;I was offered both.

I am suprised that the Factory restored T still needs a set of coil stickers.....
-
I have heard the factory restorations are not always that accurate. It suprises me too but have heard this from others. Wonder why

Factory mistakes?
Thanks,I didn't know they produced black grilles in 1971 either, it seems that it is a 2.2S from the looks of the engine.
I've heard that the factory interest in classics is fairly recent and therefore some of the knowledge was lost over the years. Nevertheless, I must say that this Targa was stunning but I was suprised it missed certain details including the infamous 2.2 sticker, which is available, as it is one of the few re-edition from the factory!

I went to Essen on saturday and what surprised me was that the factory had an RS replica presented, based on a 2.4T. All major participants had an rs, rsr, r on their stand, and the factory brought a replica
Even the rear flares apeared SC style to me, not 1973 RS style.....
So missing the 2.2 and other stickers on the blue targa, is probably a minor detail :)

Minor detail perhaps however if it were my money being spent on the restoration I would not be pleased. The factories access to NLA parts (if they have that) would be a big plus. However if they don't then their crafts people may or maynot be as good as a specialty shop. Certainly would be a big plus for resale at least to the avg. buyer.

what I ment was "minor detail"......from the factory's point of view......considered they come up with an RS replica !

Great photos! Thanks for sharing the Porsche sights from the show. The ST cars are killer.:)
If the Targa is a T model it is not 2.2L because it has an MFI setup. If it is a 2.2L then it should have a black engine compartment (and hinges?). It is also missing the round Weltmeister decal in the corner of the windsheild. I think I smell the stench of a 'red' hood badge on that car also.;) :D Other than that it looks great.

You are right. the factory is not doing their rep. as a first class resto shop any favors, however just think of the bragging rights and resale ;) Wonder if they made those "minor" errors on Jerry S's #0001 911.
