Naw, you're not getting old, unless I am, too. ;)

I miss the 180-204 page issues, too —*but we'll need to see the economy come back and all you guys supporting the small (and big) businesses that support our hobby. In the meantime, Excellence is still pretty thick compared to other magazines. C/D, R&T, and Automobile are all 120~ pages while Excellence has been 164 pages for quite a while now. That's about 16 to 40 under where I'd like to see it, but know that 75% of the drop is on our dime (ads), not yours (stories). So, I'm maybe 10 pages of editorial under our peak years (which mirrored the economy).

I can say this: It ain't easy out in print land, so support the magazines you love. Maybe even consider doing gift subscriptions (the gift that keeps reminding someone you love 'em throughout the year). My mechanic likes to do this for kids in the neighborhood...planting the seed for our hobby with the young. And I'm not just talking about subscriptions to Exc, but Esses, 911PW, CP, SCM, etc. If you value these books, support them —*because when they're gone, they'll be gone. Same goes for the vendors and suppliers who build parts for our cars...

This is a great idea and one that I will take seriously.

Pete, I truly appreciate what you've done to maintain the quality of Excellence Magazine in this horrible economy and with all the competition from "free" content on the Internet (not competing with our friends in print is part of why sportscarpros.com went on hiatus). The content, editing, photography, and production of Excellence still set the highest standards in the industry. I recently dropped SCM because they continue to fall short in each of these categories, while jacking-up their price beyond what I consider reasonable value-for-money; in fact I extended my Excellence subscription by three years for less money than they're asking for a single year of the erstwhile Alfa Romeo Market Letter.

Excellence remains a tremendous value in the world of print publications. Everone who reads this Forum should have at least one subscription.

You are right Pete: In 1999 a friend from Detroit gave me one year suscription of Excellence and the Porsche Bug started from there , then in 2002 I bought my Vintage Porsche.

Anyhow Excellence Mag is the only one that I bought monthly and read it more than 3 or 4 times each !!

Met John at the track day at this year's R Gruppe Treffen last May...... WOW!!!

He asked if he could follow Messano, Tallon, and me to Monterey going the 'fun' route....... WOW again!!!!!

I still keep my Excellence issues from 1988 when I first began to read the mag. They are great references for pics and info on cars from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and even the 90s (love those 964 articles). In 1988 a co-worker in Alaska with an 82 SC told me about Excellence, and within a year I had purchased an 83 SC, a 57 cabriolet, (but sold both) and went to the factory to pick up an '89 C4. The articles are better today with more detail and more interesting pictures of vintage 911s, special competition and historic versions, and tech reports that give good insight for the DIY guys. I even like to see the ads as they are a good source for solutions for hard to find parts/services and improved performance products.

Keep up the good work, and always keep those long hood and short hood (70s/80s) articles coming with an occasional 964 thrown in. (They are always the first ones I read, and this one was a good example with 2 great articles on the vintage cars.) We would be less of an enthusiast group without you.

Mannings car is just incredible... I got a video of the engine startup on my phone, I'd like to make it into my phone "ring".. !! Build quality is just incredible, and I have to say that the 17's look "just right".
