I thought that an opposed twin would have heavy rods and much less counter weight than present. What do the cams look like? Sweet pic.
Still stuck in PHX. Shawn.
is that the engine case that BMW riders refer to as the toaster engine, because it does look like an old General Electric or Hamilton Beach toaster?
Can I get some jam with that? Porsche content may be light, but look at that mid fifties engineering!!!! I love it.
Bye bye to the sweet orange 73S coupe....sniff...Shawn. :o
My daily driver...insect abatement program. :D
Wow Jens !!!
you guys in Vermont sure are having nicer weather than we are here in Maine today...

Shawn? Tom? You guys are going to break a leg some day! Why did I quit riding dirt bikes? When a heart surgeon I know "bemoaned" the fact that the Oregon legislature had passed a helmet law. That meant that his spare parts supply was soon to diminish. Yep, he was a transplant specialist. ;) (edit) Another part of the decision was made on an early spring good weather afternoon spent in a hospital waiting room. Possibly the first good riding day of the year here. A good buddy had separated a shoulder after a dirt bike spill. Sitting there, I watched 7 or 8 others came in, one of them DOA. All bikes. Judging by the injuries, after a few hours, I could tell whether it was a road or dirt bike. All that said? Goferit guys! I remember the fun as well. It's a gradually arrived at decision to give bikes up, if ever...ride defensively, Okay? :)
Yeah Chuck, I thought you would like that view of my car having seen and ridden in yours plus followed the recent threads on ST replica's and minilites.Quote:

hope you are having a good weekend at the Lit/Swap meet in LA. Looking forward to reports and pics soon. :)
Perhaps too much "dad" in me...I worry about you guys. ;) A defensive riding trick? Going down residential streets, watch the cars in driveways. If one of them has somebody in the driver's seat, be aware that he could back out in front of you...
 We may start it next week, getting real close. ;) :)
The photos of that engine capture all the emotions that I feel when I see a vintage 911. Stunning! Beautiful job, Eade.
I dunno ;) Eade, it looks to clean to drive. You wouldn't want to get that baby dirty!
Took these shots today, hopefully next week it will fire. :D
OMG thats awesome! Nice work!
:)  :p
WOW !!!!!! .....
After break-in, when will you be hitting the track with it ????
Cheers, ..... REALLY an awesome job Eade
:)  :D
Eades,
Hats off!!!!! Way over the top; exactly right, with a Woodford engine to boot.
Break it in and come play at Thunderhill.

Gorgeous Viper Green RSR!!! Kermit has a big brother. How long have you been working on it? Looks dreamy. Congrats -- excellent work! :D:D

Wow, looks incredible, congratulations, great work.
Wow Eade, I can't wait to see how the loud pedal works! :D
Eade,
That's a hell of a "wine" hauler---Outstanding!!! :)

...Viper Green and my "Brand New" extra wide steel wheels..in bright yellow...Do I hear John Deere?...
Tor,
Very nice indeed! I am very jealous of the yellow 964 RS, the color coded wheels look great. Did you add a Techart spoiler on the trailing edge of the retractible spoiler?
Seems you have the best of both worlds, a very nice short wheel base early S and a Carrera RS for the track.
Brian,
yes it`s a TechArt spoiler and it came with the car. I don`t like it really, so it will maybe go off sometime.
I haven`t done anything to the car except services, I bought it like that. I`m very pleased with my choice of 911`s :)
In the future the 67 will also be seen @ Nurburgring like the RS.
Eade, so when is your first track day with the RSR?
Probably the only track it will see for awhile is the nearest interstate. Then who knows  :D ;)Quote:

Paul,Tom Woodford and I have both been taking quite a few shots of the 2 year ordeal. I will put a folder of all of these together, which I will bring to events. We would like to share anything that went into building this car with all of you, no secrets here, just a lot of insane, slow, hard work. Much of the time spent was with Tom having to fabricate parts to make them all work together. I hate to use the word never, but I do not think I will do something like this again. Restoring a car completely is hard enough, but when you change so many things to make it an RSR, it makes it just that much harder. Right now there is about 800 hours put into this project, and it has not even started yet!!
Ha...the scope of this project is waaaaaaaay beyond mere mortals. Don't kid yourself for a moment. We all know what's going on there and the degree of difficulty involved.
I just think it would be gratifying to have a mounted digital camcorder in use to 'film' the maiden voyage on a dvd as well as the still shots. Here's to a successful startup and cruise Eade. You guys have earned it the hard way.
Bumpers, (fb and stock), rear valence, sunroof, engine covers (std and duck) already done and cluttering up one garage bay. Will post more as we get farther along.
Hi all -
My name is Shane Rudd and I live in Australia (Sydney), the members of the typ901 club (Phil and Clyde) in Australia introduced me to this site.
I'm 38 married with two kids Lucy (5) and Harry (3) and a Private Banker.
My ride was a 6 year saving of bonuses and alike (they are a little dearer in Oz as you may be aware) and at least 4 of those years pre-selling the idea of a classic 911 in our garage with my beautiful wife. It has been just 12 months of ownership and I haven'y wiped the smile of my face.
I have had some heartache with wrenches and my wallet and like all serious pain it is all forgotten. I have attempted, successfully many DIY jobs (some difficult) and have come away with an enormous sense of self.
I have driven by myself, with my family, with my P Car family, fast, slow and any time I can get into my (standard) seat.
I have learnt my car is close to stock, but has lost some of the interior good bits (door pockets) and exterior gems (orange bar hood badge) but I still look and smile evertime I turn away after closing the door.
All in all she is mine for evermore (hopefully) and I would not want another.. the dream is my reality - seriously lucky.
The car is a 1970 non sunroof coupe 2.2ltr Zenith Carbed silver beauty (Australian Delivered matching numbered car)... original paint code was 2424 with a 915 conversion in place of the sporto. It has had an interior redone with the houndstooth seats etc etc
I have many items and small jobs I need to attack on my beauty - I could list them, however they are probably the same as everyone else. I will need the expertise of this group and in turn I'll try to add some value with my discoveries.
Here are a few shots - I'll try to add some better ones as time goes on. cheers Shane
Here are the pics (I think?)

Shane,
the main thing you must abide by when posting images is keep them under 100K per file. I find that 800 x 600 resolution gives me an acceptable file size to post. remember you can post multiple images so long as their individually comply.
The "manage attachment" wizard will also give you an error message if you try to upload a too large file. It loks like it goes thru but then doesnt show up after you close the window under your message window witht eh file names.
You need to have some image management softwrae to alter file size OR preset yr digital camera resolution to ensure you dont exceed the 100K limit
looking forward to seeing yr posts

I look forward to contributing when I can - I still have the 911 knowledge training wheels on, however here is a list of my current DIY achievements. (no particular order)
-Restich leather steering wheel
-replace front horn grills
-change front and rear brake pads
-install retracting seat belts in the rear (part of the purchase contract with my beautiful wife and the two children)
-replace and recover shift plate
-install new fuse board (top 8)
-change oil
-change transmission oil
-adjust clutch
-change fan belt
-replace various seals
-fix clock
-correct speaker installation by PO
All since June 2004 - and ther is a mile of the harder jobs I'll tackle in the future.
Shane
DAMN EADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT THING IS NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!
Will you bring it up to Monterey???
I drive it up for you!! ;)
I can't wait to see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
GREAT JOB YOU GUYS...ABSOLUTELY MOUTHWATERING!!!
'cept for the plate it's a great photo.
Manu 72S - Nice one, bien fait - who do you think you are , Steve McQueen. ? :D
Shane,
A beautiful car all around. And the best view I have ever seen of the houndstooth pattern on the seats. My originals are in sorry state, and yours are gorgeous enough to give me the inspiration to put them on the project list.
Welcome,
Rick
Thanks Rick - I'll get around to taking prettier shots of the ol girl one day, the driveway at that angle is slightly ordinary - There is something about the houndstooth, quite unique in the early cars, a bit of euro style as apposed to euro trash!!
I lust after a set of recaro sport seats in the houndstooth - Other issues to attend to first though.. never mind. Although it isn't a concourse car so a set of those Torino's (I think ) would probably do.
Thanks again - I'll look for your car in this post
Shane
SIR70T Shane, it would appear that you have a very nice early 911T. There are few of us lowly T owners on this board.
Thanks for taking the effort to manage your pictures and post them. Your car looks to be quite exceptional. Please keep us informed as to your progress/enjoyment with it. Pics required. :D
manu72S...Nice car, road and picture. That image captures the fun of these cars. It also begs me to steal your car and stir up some leaves. :) Nice work.
Shawn.
Shawn - Thanks
Never say lowly in the prescence of my girl!!!! :):) :) :) ;) Be proud Shawn be proud!
Only kidding, I actually think there is only a very small number of people in the world who are turn their nose up at the T thing, I find everyone has an appreciation for the early 911's regardless of the letter on the back.
regards
Shane
I am new to this board - having had it recommended to me by other members of the Australian 901 Register. However, I am not new to older Porsches. Like Lisa Gregory (refer to the Australian thread) I am a second generation Porsche enthusiast. In fact our respective Dad's distantly knew one another (Melbourne is around 600 miles south of Sydney)
My late father was one of the founding member of the Porsche Club in Sydney in the early 60's... so I was born into it. In addition ot the 911 I look after his 1961 356B (bought new) for my Mum.
My car - picture below- is a 1968 911L delivered to Australia in December 1967. It is Irish Green, and is a nice driver. The engine has been upgraded, but retains ins original crankcase. It has 2.2E pistons, cylinders and cams, and an original 4 outlet Arbarth exhaust (a period accessory). I look for tunnels to zoom through with the windows down!
Condition? I have described it like your favourite pair of shoes. Not immaculate, but well kept with a nice patina.
If any one finds themselves in Sydney be sure to contact either myself or Shane Rudd (SIR70T).
Regards,
Justin Reed
PS If anyone is going to Hershey for the 50th PCA Parade - please let me know. It would be great to exchange details / stories.
Damned technology - give me on an early 911 any day!

Welcome Justin:
One of my favorite combinations-Irish green and beige. Looks great.
That car of yours sounds alot like mine - well that exhaust might sweeten yours a bit.
My 67 has those 2.2 E bits also but keeps the original early 67 cams.
John
Beautiful car Justin... one of my favorite combos as well... ;)
Cheers,
Justin - quite a beaut! I completely agree with John's statement.
With cars as gorgeous as these - I say, bring on the Ausies! The more the merrier. :)
It's good to see a 68 without the ugly "tacked" on front and rear side markers that was used on USA model 911 cars.
I couldn't agree more! I'd sure never criticize anybody who removed those abberations in the interest of better aesthetics. "Original" be damned in this case. Justin? I LOVE the color! Of course, I'm a wee bit prejudiced.. ;)Quote:

Too cool Eade. I have some deep 6s and R7s for it. We'll need to fit a roll bar, 911R side stripes, centerfill gas cap....and megaphones. How low can we get that thing?! The canyon runs will never be the same.

I have always wanted a T3 Ghia.....but they are impossible to find out here.
The houndstooth is a bonus!
that is a very nice example and as you can see I am kind of partial to them.
Eade, fantastic color and a great angle.
Thanks! not Eade's though. Mine is similar to Eade's, his has blacked out trim etc. Bring the pics Eade!
Cool Eade, you may have heard your Ghia body style refered to as the Razor Ghia do to the shrap edges when compared to the more common rounded Ghia. How's the RSR going? The PCA driving school might be fun for your wife, a couple other guys and wives have entered.Quote:

In my search for an S, I took a little detour. Could not resist this car! Probably as close as I will ever get to a RS. This is a German spec Carrera, imported to US by current owner in 1997. Has the RS 210hp engine.

rs911T,
Are you running with steel wheels - or are you going so fast that your spokes are a blur!?
I'm moving SO fast that ... er ... yes, they're steel wheels. Shod with meaty 195/65-15 tires. Makes for a lively track combo. :)

damn humbling to even think of being in company like this, but...
a couple of years ago i was tinkering on my original owner '66 912 (Holbert) when out of the blue a guy from the neighborhood walked up, introduced himself and said "nice car". i thanked him and then he says he has an "old 911" he might be selling. oh... ?? apparrently i was in no hurry, laboring for many years under the false impression that 911 engines are 'high-maintenance', but 8 months later i finally took delivery of the '69E. appears to be an original 100,000 mile car. in 20 years of his ownership he put less than 11K on the clock. after 25 years of 4-cylinder bliss i could be a convert :)
this was taken after i'd changed out the fake 7's (all around) w/ 205 70's, BMW mirrors and Bursch. still got a little ways to go. thanks for all the inspiration guys!
cheers
jerry
Nice early plate Jerry! Kinda reminds me of somthin.
Couldn't resist showing you these pix. I have polished Kermit and waxed him, and a couple of weekends ago, shot these pix. I especially like the last one. Mirror mirror on the wall. . . . . . .
Larry,
Those black monstrosities stick out so far you can't even fit the car in the photo! ;) :D
Just kidding, couldn't resist the dig. Kermitt looks great all dolled up. See you soon.
They are kinda funny ain't they? Rubber baby buggy bumpers. :D
OK, OK, you R Gruppe guys have razzed me about them since I decided to put them on, but doesn't the hood look bright and shiny??
I know that the R Gruppe crowd doesn't use bumpers. When they crash, a bumper isn't going to help!!!
Don't be so single focussed.
larry
Kermie looks great Larry! He makes his own sunlight!
BTW, I contacted the hotel you will be staying at for the Taj Kreuzers event in June and reserved a second room for your bumper guards. :D  :D
Remember Larry, the only reason Porsche used those bumper guards is because the US Govt forced them to! So, in a way it would be more "correct" to run the euro spec chrome guards just the way Porsche intended. :D
Single focused'ly yours,
Dave
RGruppe 252 :)
Ah Larry, dont listen to them...I like them bumpers!
Poor Larry, surrounded by hot-rodders! We tease because we love, buddy! ;)
Trust me, Larry can dish it out too! Im sure he will have pleanty of material when we all meet up again in June.
How about some nice chrome bumperettes? I put them on my 73.5 for a while (before going to FG bumpers).
Larry, I have the two front bumperettes off my car up for sale. I think adding two more up front would help :D :D :D
Man I gotta see what that would look like! Anyone with photochop?
Seriously Larry, looks like your guy did a hellava job on the paint! I love that earlier pic you took with the fall colors in the background!
Take care, only joshin!
I figured I would snap a picture of mine today so Larry could pick on her battle scars and age lines.
I put new tires on the Americans this winter. 205/60 on the front and 215/60 on the rear. They fill up the wheelwells much better than those 195/65s that I had before. Other than that, its all pretty much status quo so far.
Hey Dave, have you been tracking the 5.5 mag AMRs on Evilbay? Are yours sixes?
I saw that they were up again after being "sold" once. Seem to be cool wheels although the 6" width makes them less desirable to the Porsche peeps. Would be cool for the front of my VW tho!
Yes, mine are 6's
Dave
Guys -- Thanks for the compliments. Yes, the car's paint job is really top notch. I am very happy. Now if I could only get the MFI adjusted. Still working on that.
Dave:
Looks very nice. Surprising that the Frog Lights are still in one piece. I had always heard that they were stone catchers. My ears still remember last fall when we traded machines, and I was listening to your "S" wind up above 5K. SWEEEEEEEET.
Can't wait till JUne. There are so many things to do before then -- touch up my paint, wash and another wax, front wheel bearings and studs, and . . . . . Oh Yes, I need to polish my toolkit for the all important ToolKit Appreciation Hour. Will Dave come out on top? Will Larry's cleaning and polishing be enough to stem the challenge from the upstart? Only time will tell.
It will be a great weekend. :) :D
larry
Larry,
I used some 3M clear adhesive sheild over the lamps to protect them. Working very well. Not a bad idea for the headlamps either.
I finally picked it up and drove it back to Seattle this weekend from California. What a great car and great drive.

Jerry, judging by the numbers on your plate it looks like it was early 70 when plated. (if I'm remembering correctly) My numbers start with 8 and the car was plated in Mar 70. That's what I was referring to. That and the back of a black car showing that blue nicely ;)
I just thought of something. That picture is pretty dark on my monitor. Were you thinkin I had CA black plates? My plates are the blue.
you're right, the pic is dark, but the format says 'blue' (numbers first) i may be confused because black plates started in '63 with AAA 111 and progressed. i suppose my plates could be original issue. '69 was about the time the black plates were phasing out. i'm confusing 'format' with 'sequence'. i need to get a closeup of that Holbert frame. who needs Vasek anyway :pQuote:

KENIKH, that is a beeeeutiful "S"! Tell us more!
It is a Euro S that was imported into the bay area (San Rafael) in 1984. It was originally green, although it is currently unknown which green. Best guess is signal green, leaf green or light metallic green. The car had a complete strip down repaint at one point, so there are no traces of the original color left to tell other than at the bottom of the seatbelt mounting holes. It is at this point I assume that the steel RS flares were grafted to the car; it is a very nice butt welded job. The paint and VIN plates are no longer with the car as a result of the aforementioned repaint :( but the car was verified by Porsche and a title search as not stolen.
After California, the car was moved to the south and spent some time in Tennessee, where it supposedly received a motor and tranny rebuild (no paperwork; compression, leak down and seat of pants assessment support this). It is at this point I assume the MFI was removed in favor of Webers. The PO had it shipped from NC back to the bay area (Half Moon Bay), where amazingly his mechanic (Junipero Serra Porsche) is convinced he used to work on the car in the '80s. Bill Bennett, the PO, posted about this car about a year back when he started restoring it from being a garish RS clone wannabe, to the beautiful sight we see today.
Our best guess is that I am either the third or fourth owner. Considering the condition of the car, it either has 115K or 215K miles, although my bet is 115K, which would line right up with having to rebuild the original 2L motor for the first time (10K miles ago).
Moving forward, I have tracked down a complete '69S MFI from one of our esteemed colleagues on this board. I should have the MFI back in before the end of the year if all goes as planned. It will be a slow process getting the car back to original, but I am in no hurry. It looks great and runs to match.
(edit) oh yeah, the wheels are Harvey Weidman restored RS fuchs. It has 205s and 225s F/R respectively.

1970 911E, S Front Suspension and Brakes, carrera tensioners, MFI, original interior and paint, my dad bought it in 1991, and I ressurected it starting in 2003 after it had sat for 7 years.
Britt
Very nice lookin ride there. Welcome to the forum. :D
Always good to see another early car in North Carolina.
Here's another white 1970 911E:
It finally worked! Let's try it again.
I bought this '67S about two years ago. It was rough but complete and numbers matching. I re-did the interior and did as much cosmetically on the exterior as I could but it really needed paint. The body was wavy and the original light ivory color had been changed to a sort of medium blue metalic. I drove it for the past two years but in February I got busy. I dissembled it completely inside and out including removing all removable body panels. Freddie Hernandez did the body work and painted it back to it's original light ivory. He did a beautiful job. I sourced a lot of the parts I needed from salvage cars at EASY. Without the dozens of small parts I got from their salvage cars plus some new parts I couldn't have done it. I finished the project (well almost...are they ever totally finished?) on the Saturday of the RGrupe get together in Monterey two weeks ago. I drove over to it that afternoon. I built the car as a lightweight Rally car but I have all the original trim and deco so I can convert it back to a totally stock look in a weekend if I want to. It's great to have it back on the road again in it's original light ivory color.
Richard,
good to meet you at EASY and the picture doesn't do justice to a really fine job.
Ed
here's mine, awaiting deco to arrive.
Richard
Wow! Very nice. Looks great. I got my S, a '69 two years ago as well. I've got a ways to go yet though. I'm envious. Good for you.
A.T.
Richard,
I'm also building an R replica and your car is exactly how I want mine to look. Clean, neat, cool.
Can we see more pics of the interior ??
A not so stock 1970 911S. But I'm the second owner- purchased in 1978 - and I still have the original (matching number) 2.2-liter and trans in the garage. One day, I'll restore it to original.

Nice scenic picture of the spring foliage! Too bad that ugly black thing got in the way eh? ;) :D ;)
Cool pic. Jack, your car is the gold standard for hotrod 911s. Countless cars that have been posted over at Pelican have been compared to either BBI or BBII at some point. Some of them are probably cleaner and faster, other are obviously neither. Pics of BBI were what convinced me to pursue the lifelong dream of owning a 911. Id wanted one since I was a kid, but couldnt justify it until I saw pics of that car.
Jack, that's one helluvan R Gruppe car! Make no mistake about it. :DQuote:

My lightweight interior is budget...and still under development...but for now I've done it with Corbeau lightweight rally seats which are very inexpensive but very side suportive and very similar to rally/race seats from the 1960's, utilitarian 912 rubber floor mats, my stock door '67S door panels and a dash switch panel to allow for switching to backup ignition, fuel pump, auxillary lights and intercom radio. I've used this type of switch panel while running a V8 Camaro in SCCA racing. I'm also running a flat (not the later style dished) Momo Prototipo steering wheel (not shown) from the 1960's. There is room on the glove box front for a Rally clock which I'll install soon.
In short, the interior is simple and inexpensive but should get the job done. Sorry I don't have more pictures of it but I think you'll get the idea. I"ve also included a couple of quick shots of the front and rear of the old '67S.
Rich
Rich,
..thats a very nice ride. Can you please tell me what the switch panel is made of and its thickness? I want that look too....thanx!
Took this pic today... new "shallow 7R" wheels in the back.
Jared,
Great looking modification. Who did the work? What size spacer did you end up using?
Here are my two babies, RS as I bought it and the Targa nearing the end of a 5 year nuts and bolts restoration
Clyde, that is one helluva pair you got there!
Brian, I got the wheels thru this board, seller claimed they were done by Harvey... but that may or may not be the case. Either way, it's a very quality job and they match my front 6s perfectly finish-wise.
I was going to get the 15mm adapter from Ralph Boothe, but he told me they wouldn't work with my setup. I measured and confirmed it - 15mm doesn't push the wheel out enough to clear the factory studs. Currently running a 6mm spacer which provides just enough tire clearance to the spring plate bolts. 215/60s back, 195/65s front.

first set of pics I could get small enough hopefully my 72s targa will be next
Beautiful car there!
Yes, very nice! That car sits just right!
Here's a shot of my '73 E.
NTI73...man another nice 73! That Aubergine just makes one hungry for some eggplant parmesan ;) What’s up with the empty license plate bracket on the front though?
All these nice stock low mileage cars now...
Cheers,
I took it off for the photos... I'd like to take it off completely but I don't want to leave the holes there. The plate is back on these days.Quote:

While the Australian arm of the 911 operation is active, here is a shot of my wee beastie, which I am happy to report is on its way to Albany for the VSCC Round the Houses/Hillclimb over the long weekend.

I didn't build it up, just tweaked it to get it right. The interior runs period Scheel seats, Schroth harnesses, Momo period wheel, Matter half cage, and remains fully trimmed ala RS Touring with the correct headlining and door trims. It has an interesting Australian history, having been delivered new in Sydney and the second owner was the proprietor of a large Porsche parts business in Australia, who tweaked the car using bits he had available. It then went through two owners who RS'd it with the proper exterior parts. Even though it was always an Australian car, it still suffered the usual tin worm which we have now eradicated. This led to a new front floor pan and tank, and the requisite heavyweight cheque.
Finally have a finished bumper for the first time in over 2 years....
Simonozrs,
Great car....can we see a pic of your seats? Thanks!
Simon
That's Stan's old car right? Good to see it around. Stan was running a 3.2 and then a 3.6 in it when I first got involved with Porsches and motorsport.
It looks great (my car used to look that nice before 8 tarmac rallies and a million track miles...).
Ryan
That's the car. At last count, it has had a 2.0 litre, 2.2 litre, 3.2 litre, 3.6 litre, and the current 2.4S, all noted in the CAMS Log Book. I caught up with Stan at the Wanneroo V8 Round, and he still reckons that the 3.6 is the way to go. As you might have seen, the new Tarmac rules probably rule that out, so 2.7 seems the solution, and as it is so RS'ish that would be the appropriate thing. A 3.6 would certainly liven things up though!
On another note, I called Simon W to congratulate him on the Targa effort. Well done! Are you Targa West'ing this year? If so let me know, and we might set up a Team 901?
Rgds
Simon
Re: Your car - yep, i think 2.7 or 2.8 is likely to be a big as you can go for an pre 74 911 now. Also, make sure you have a mag case (eg. 7R). A lot of 2.4 and 2.7's were built back in the day on AL cases (stronger). They don't meet the rules. (Also - with a 2.7 you can enter the car as an RS lightweight and run it at 960kg - that's what I'll probably do)
Re: Targa West - dunno. First up, I think they've priced it badly for a 3 day event. Plus you have all the "first time" event teething issues to worry about(I did the 2nd running of East Coast Classic and it was pretty bad - about 25% of all comp stages cancelled). I'd like to come home and do it but its hard to justify it over Classic Adelaide... (like $'s, 1 day longer, fantastic organising etc)

here's a pic of my 72 s
That's one of the best colors EVER. You are very, very lucky.
Another great early color! And an Esssss at that!
Here is the Gold Metallic '73 S I recently acquired...
And one more shot...
:)
wow that is one clean 73S, very nice
;)
Here is my 74 carrera #335 Gulf Blue, I recently accquired.
Ed,
That is incredible. Has it ever been driven? Any pics of the interior?
Wow!
Let me say it again. Wow!

Ed,
Show us more pics
Is that a fully restored to concours level?

I just purchased the car in April after a lengthy search for an outstanding '72 or '73 E or S. When I found this '73S, well, I knew it was the one. After questioning it a little in the beginning, I am thrilled with the color.
Here is one last photo for this thread. In the garage with his (2 year older but equally beautiful) German sister....
:) 280SL or 250?
wow nice car my dad use to have a huge car collection and my favorite was his '71 280SL with less the 20K orig. miles. looks like the same color as yours too.
Beautiful cars
Ed,
I couldn't help noticing that there is a little rust on those two nuts holding the muffler in place. :D
Okay. One more time. WOW!!!!! Outstanding car. How long did you search before you found it?
A.T.
Thanks. It is a 1971 280SL. The Pagoda series began in 1963 with the 230SL, then they increased the engine and produced the 250SL for a very short time - only 11 months in fact from December '66 to Nov '67. These were followed by the 280 SL through the end of production in February 1971. Only 830, 1971's were produced.
Then the bumpers got larger, they got alot heavier, they added more emissions equipment and.......well, you are familiar with that story. The '72 SL is a lot like the '74 911; the year(s) they took their fall from grace.
Great minds think alike! The Benz is what I want to get for the wife!
Yep, a 280 SL is on the list for my wife, too.
Since you guys like the 280SL, here is another pic of it.
Ed, I've always liked the pagoda Mercedes. Of course, I'd have to lighten it, lower it, put deep 6s and 7Rs on it, stuff a V8 in it, maybe some early Recaro buckets...it already has 911R flares. ;) :D
Handsome cars you have there!
:) nice 280SL one of my favorite cars.
My dad had a 4 speed
Is your's a 4 speed or auto?
Mine is an automatic. Thanks for your comments.
OK OK...so it's NOT an Early "S", but it's a great car nonetheless... :D
1989 Row Club Sport, the ONLY 1 in Linen Grey, custom ordered and delivered in Germany. Imported 2000 to USA. The ONLY RoW one I know of that is here....
Beautiful car, Stacy.
I've had my hands full on more than a few occasions trying to keep up with her in the canyons.
As I've had the pleasure of sharing a two-car garage with the CS, I must say that photos almost never do the car or linen gray justice.
And BTW, her spot in the garage in Santa Monica is still vacant should you need to stash a car there. :D
Steve, thanks! And it is SO TRUE: for some reason, you HAVE to see the Linen Grey in person to appreciate it. Personally, I love the color! However, the photos just don't seem to capture it....Quote:

Ed..I would like to be one of those to congrat you on one of the very nicest 911's I've seen. That color is very rare, OR some that color have been reprayed a different color. I just bought a 73 1/2 T the same color & it is in dire need of a respray. The car looks great and I'm sure you'll recieve lots of compliments.
Good to see you trolling again! LOVE that color too!
This is a gold metallic 72T that was on eBay a while back. I also have a friend who is doing a slow restoration of his 71T coupe (purchased in 1972) with original gold metallic paint. It's a very striking color in person!
Great taste in cars Stacy! Good luck with the new ride.
Best,
Don
I was look through some photos for inspiration today.
When I look at the pictures it made wonder why I totally dissassembled my car?
I guess the car had served me well and it deserved a total restoration.
This is the "before" restoration photo.
As the pile of restored parts continues to grow and then metal work on the body is soon to start I am getting excited.
I hope to have an "After" photo by September.
Don, VERY similiar tastes to somebody I know on the East Coast... ;) :D :D :D Thanks for the good wishes!!Quote:

Brad,
Beautiful sunset shot. Nice mood.

Jens, thanks. You're so right about the Color - photos just don't do it justice! I agree on the soon-to-be classic status if these cars-just a matter of time. Until I got my GT3, I thought the Porsche world ended first in 1973, and again with the death of the air-cooled engine. But the CS and the GT3 are proof that Porsche can still do it when they want to....Quote:

Hmm... Not enough sepia cars around here.
Here's the car that I bought advertised on this board some months back. I was very hesitant at first about the color and briefly contemplated a colorchange before I saw it (bought it unseen). Now it will stay sepia for as long as i own it. Wish it was an E or an S though, but then again I wouldn't have paid what I paid.

larry
....if that's Brians ride in truck, I am 99% sure it is signal orange. Great shade of orange......very soft.
After 3 months, here is Glucklich back on the road.
And the office as well... :D
Michael, very nice
Pretty darn nice.
Clean ride Michael! :)
Larry and Joel,
You have it right it is Signal Orange. :) It is a 70K original mile '70E.

Congratulations
Good show Brian. Gotta love the period correct tunes. :D
Beautiful Brian...love those 70's colors! And the 8 tracks to boot!
Way to go Brian! Beautiful, LOVE the color! The 8 Track tapes might be worth as much as the car!!!! :D Janice Joplin, Jefferson Airplane...the Cars...!!! how cool is that???
