Oh WOW! that helps a lot. You will notice 3552 is off by 2, and 3637 is off by 6 in the last two digits. The "missing" engines are type 901/20, and 58 of them are found between builds 3481 and 4824. So I need build #'s from any 901/01 above 903581 and any 901/05 below 908000.
What Henk's data tells me is that the 901/20 engines were built one at a time, probably by one engine builder. The data suggests 30 standard engines were built between each 901/20 engine. If anyone has any info on an engine or case with serial 9061xx please let me know.
Very hard to see the build #, so I asked: 15590 on this very rare 901/08 sporto enabled engine.
Dave, I just received a 911S built on August 5th 1966 which I will going to sell.
Rumour goes it is the 3rd S built, would you be able to find some more info if that could be true?
Here are the numbers and pictures:
960073 901/02 5428
Vin# 305360S
Thanks,
Henk.
Hi Henk,
Did you get this car out of the UK? That seller might have said that it's the 3rd known early S? He (MdR) was active on this board and might be able to fill you in (you can also find his old for sale post unless he pulled it).
There are least two earlier S's known. 305133S and 305136S which had resp. tranny 103013 and 103012
Since your orig transmission is 103077 - 901/02 it's more likely that it's not the 3rd completed.
Richard
I agree. With 73 engines, 77 transmissions and 260 cars into production that claim has little merit. Seventy-third is more like it. So far I know of these 10 earlier cars:
305101
305102
305113
305133
305136
305273
305279
305280
305295
305296
More grist for this mill...
My '67S coupe is 305347S; with engine # 960079. Kardex says built on August 8, 1966; delivered new on December 5, 1966. This one is a few before Henk's.
