Year: 1973
VIN Number: 9113110249
Winning bid: US $7,800.00
Date sold: Nov-05-06
Relisted and sold for US $13,900.00 (BIN) on May-11-07
Notes: "This is a rapidly appreciating (Sports Car Market shows a ‘B’ grade investment potential, increasing 17% per year) 1973 Porsche 911T Targa. Reserve is set low to guarantee a sale, but by next summer the ‘buy it now’ will look like a steal…great investment! These early 911s are such an absolute kick-in-the-pants to drive. Whether you vintage race this car, or drive it to the grocery store, either will put a smile on your face. This 2.4L Targa with MFI still has its original owner’s manual, original Yellow engine shroud, original pre-heat box and the fuel-vapor return system working properly. Odometer says 34k, but obviously much more likely to be 134k, but actual is unknown.
RUST: You will be hard-pressed to find a more original, rust-free 1973 Porsche 911 Targa. Front suspension pan has advanced rust on the passenger-side section (seen in photos), which will eventually require replacement of the cross-member, but front suspension points and trunk floor are still very solid. The only other place with rust is the bottom edges of both doors (pictured below). Very light pitting in two spots below rear window trim (both photographed below), but nothing serious. Otherwise, both floors, both rear suspension points, both rockers, both battery boxes, both jack points are 100% solid and TOTALLY rust free. If you find any rust upon your personal inspection beyond what I’ve disclosed, I will release you of your obligation to purchase and pay for your plane ticket home…that’s how solid this car is.
BODY CONDITION: Extremely straight with only minor dings here and there at the most. Never any accidents. Inside trunk nose and sidewalls are 100% straight, original and free of ANY previous damage. All body lines/gaps are excellent. The same is true for the engine compartment panels, and rear quarter panels. Targa top is in excellent condition.
PAINT: Probably about a 4 on a scale of 1-10. Photos are poor, but paint is sort of presentable. All paint inside trunk, engine compartment, interior, and door jams is THE original factory paint. All original Porsche factory tags and stickers are still intact, except one from the rear engine compartment apron.
INTERIOR: Rear seats are—as is typically the case with 911’s—basically perfect. Front seats are extremely good with no holes, cuts or tears, although the driver seat needs the section behind the hinge tucked back in. Dash is in ok condition with the typical two cracks from the speaker grill area. Carpet looks original and is in fair/presentable condition. Targa top headliner is excellent. Door panels are good, but pockets have been cut for speakers (one replacement for passenger side is included). All other side paneling is original and in excellent condition. Trunk carpet is absent. Original and matching spare (5 wheels) as shown is included.
ELECRICAL: Two brand new batteries. All lights, signals, clock, fans, wipers, later Blaupunkt radio, gauges, parking brake, etc all work flawlessly. All lenses are in good condition. Appearance of glass is only due to a polorized camera lense, which has this effect on all tempered glass...the rear window is flawless.
MECHANICAL: Some typical smoke when cold, but is gone after a few minutes of driving. The 915 transmission shifts flawlessly with no whines or syncro problems. Tight front end. Front tires are older, but with decent tread. Rear tires are newer with very good tread. This car has always been in service as a driver. Runs and drives well with no major problems. Engine has a few small drips, but no major oil leaks. Just a very tight, solid Targa-driver.
NEEDS: I would recommend a full tune-up not because I think it needs it, but simply because I don’t know when it was last done and valve-adjustments are important. Otherwise, this car is just right for a daily or weekend driver while you restore. However, for the perfectionists, given the incredible lack of rust this is also an IDEAL candidate for a full restoration. Either way, if you’ve looked over the photos and read the description, this car will not disappoint. In fact, you will more likely be pleasantly surprised."

VIN Number: 9112101721
Winning bid: US $13,900.00
Date sold: Nov-06-06
Notes: "This Porsche, VIN#9112101721, is a genuine barn-find (steel with cement floor, so no moisture). You will be hard-pressed to find a more solid, original, rust-free 911. We have shipped several 911s to Canada and Germany and are happy to work with international buyers. Polarized camera lens gives patterned appearance to glass, but I assure you that all glass is in excellent condition. Windshield does have one stone chip.
This is a rapidly appreciating (Sports Car Market shows great investment potential…’B-grade’ 14%+ per year) 1972 Porsche 911 Sunroof Coupe WITH A/C! Reserve is set low to guarantee a sale, but by next summer the ‘buy it now’ will be a steal…great investment! These early 911s are such an absolute kick-in-the-pants to drive. Whether you vintage race this car, or drive it to the grocery store, either will put a smile on your face.
This 2.4L Coupe still has its original owner’s manual, original Yellow engine shroud, original pre-heat box and the fuel-vapor return system hooked-up properly. Odometer reads 34k miles, but obviously more likely to be 134k miles.
GENERAL: You will be hard-pressed to find a more original, rust-free 1972 Porsche 911 Sunroof coupe, anywhere. I’ve picked this car apart and only found rust on the driver side front fender (pictured below), and a small spot below the windshield on the passenger side. Otherwise, if you find any rust upon your personal inspection beyond what I’ve disclosed, I will release you of your obligation to purchase and pay for your plane ticket home…that’s how confident I am in this car’s condition.
BODY CONDITION: All body lines and panel gaps are PERFECT. Extremely straight with two or three minor dings at the most, and those are only door dings. The ‘S’ styled spoiler has a small crack, but very easily repairable. Never any accidents. Inside trunk nose and sidewalls are 100% straight, original and free of ANY previous damage. Virgin front and rear aprons…never been crunched. The same is true for the engine compartment panels, rear quarter panels and front fenders. Front pan/cross-member, front and rear suspension points, floors, rocker panels; even both battery boxes are 100% original and 100% rust-free. No excuses.
PAINT: Probably about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. Could easily be considered ‘decent driver paint’, but in all honesty, most early 911 enthusiasts will likely have the paint redone. Photo’s are poor, but paint does still have good shine. There was a scratch on the passenger side door has been touched-up. All paint inside trunk, engine compartment, interior, and door jams is THE original factory paint. All Porsche factory tags and stickers (including engine compartment stickers) are still intact.
INTERIOR: Rear seats are—as is typically the case with 911’s—basically perfect. Front seats are extremely good with no holes, cuts or tears. Driver seat does have two cracks in the vinyl surface on the outside back bolster, but not holes. Dash is in amazingly good condition with only one noticeable crack coming from the speaker grill—this is very typical. Carpet is mostly missing. Door panels are in very good condition. All other side paneling is original and in excellent condition. Trunk carpet is fair. Original tool kit exists, but needs serious cleaning.
ELECRICAL: All lights, signals, POWER SUNROOF, clock, fans, horn, wipers, etc all work flawlessly. All lenses are in excellent condition.
MECHANICAL: I have driven this car to around 40 mph, and all 5 gears & clutch work perfectly and brakes work, but the MFI pump needs rebuilding (as per PPI); then you will have a solid driver. The car has been sitting for 8 years and the engine was compression tested at (150, 145, 145, 155, 155, 155) and leak-down tested (5%, 7%, 9%, 2%, 2%, 3%). Mechanic says that these numbers will very likely go up once the car is put back into service. Tight front end. Usable tires. Just a very tight, solid, original early sunroof coupe.
KNOWN NEEDS: Rebuilding the MFI and recommend a full tune-up. Tires have about 80% tread, but are old. Brakes need to be used to loosen up. Otherwise, this car is just right for a daily or weekend drive-while-you-restore car. Given the incredible lack of rust and a wonderfully straight body this is THE IDEAL early 911 candidate for a full restoration."

Notes: "1973.5 Porsche 911T 2.4 Targa. Vin # 9113111987, Engine # 6133230. This is the very last model year of the original small bumper series 911s. This particular model has the very desirable 915 gearbox , in combination with CIS Electronic Fuel Injection. The 73.5 series was only produced for 6 months , and is regarded by many as the most desirable of the early 911s. The example offerred here is a rust free California Car which spent most of it's life in Redding California. It has been repainted once in Guards Red, originally Aztec Gold. The paint and body are in very nice condition, excellent original floorpans, the interior is very nice, no cracks in the dash, good doorpanels, carpets, and an excellent targa top. The car runs very well, excellent mechanical condition, brakes , lights, steering , shocks, all in good condition, and the tyres are almost new . it's nicely equipped with 15" ATS, ( COOKIE CUTTER) wheels, CD Player, "S"Front Spoiler, and Sport Seats. This is a really attractive driver, currently registered through next year, not a Show Car!"

Winning bid: US $3,000.00
Date sold: Nov-20-06
Notes: "Hi, I owned a vw when I was young and always wanted one of these cars. So I bought this with the intent to restore it but a new job has taken all my time and now it needs to go. It was owned by the same owner for the past 27 years.Inspection sticker is from 1994 when last on the road.
The past owner took the motor apart after paying thousands of dollars to rebuild the motor a few years before.( Motor will need to be reasembled and rebuilt again.) He was going for more performance he told me, as he had sold-traded the fuel injection system to a man he was suppose to trade for new holley carbs and was ripped off. He never received the carbs. So the fuel injection is missing. The motor is all apart , and will need to be rebuilt all over again by a mechanic. The block still turns by hand and was garaged. The cylinder heads he spent another $800. a couple years ago so the heads are redone again now. Some tin for around the motor he had soaking in vinegar and those parts dissolved. So some tin is missing. There may be some other items missing but for the most part-- most of the parts are there. Heater boxes, trans, block , heads piles of parts etc are there. The muffler is missing.
The car body sat out side for a couple years covered, then was moved inside. It has been off the road 20 years or more untouched. The floors look very solid with only a few small holes by the gas pedal. From sitting outside the clutch and brake assembly has rusted solid-- they don't push down.. The seat tracks are frozen up . The seat springs are rusty. Carpet shot and gone. Front floors up front in middle have some small rust holes by gas pedal, from the underside the rest floors are very solid. There really isn't any major rust out on the body, except under the one battery tray, a spot by the fuel or oil door, and some along the bottom of the doors. Fender lips are all perfect.
Under the hood the wires some looked to have been repaired with blue connectors ( see photo) but I was told everything worked when his wife drove the car for years in the late 1970's .Dash gauges are a bit fogged because I have to keep the car outside under a covered now. Needs a interior kit. Dash cracked. I have the one headrest, I will need to look for the other, it may be missing. Body is real nice , straight and solid The car is also great color. Nice wheels. Tires hold air but are old . Emergency brake works. The brakes will need work from sitting. This is a 5 speed trans and was told the car has the S package, sorry I don't know what that includes or means. I also think this had A/C but I don't see a compressor. The little grill or light factory holes under the front bumper on the corners, I don't see what ever goes to fill them.
The paint is very evenly faded and would shine up great with a compound and wax ,except the rust spots. I took the photos today when it had dampness in the morning. The paint is evenly faded not like the photos show. Not blotchy. Car is a good project of a cool car. Reserve is $3000. which is what I paid for the car.
This car is sold in as is condition for parts or to restore. There is no warrantee or Guarantee expressed or implied."

Notes: "YOU ARE VIEWING A VERY SHARP 1973 PORSCHE 911 T TARGA. THE PREVIOUS OWNER STARTED TO BUILD THIS CAR INTO AN R GRUPPE STYLE HOT ROD. IT ONLY NEEDS BODY PREP AND PAINT TO BE COMPLETE. THIS CAR WAS ORIGINALLY DELIVERED TO THE FIRST OWNER IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS BY NORTHWOOD PORSCHE+AUDI. IT REMAINED IN THE WESTERN USA FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF ITS LIFE WHICH EXPLAINS WHY IT DOES NOT SUFFER FROM THE RUST PROBLEMS THAT MANY OF THESE EARLY 911s DO. I HAVE FULL DOCUMENTATION ON THIS CAR INCLUDING, WINDOW STICKER, BILL OF SALE, BOOKS, FULL SERVICE HISTORY, RECEIPTS FOR ENGINE RE-BUILD, ETC. THE ORIGINAL OWNER KEPT A DETAILED LOG ON THE CAR THAT INCLUDED ALL MAINTENANCE RECORDS AND EVEN GAS FILL-UPS! THE SUBSEQUENT OWNERS CONTINUED THIS SO THE DOCUMENTATION IS EXTREMELY THOROUGH. THE BODY IS VERY SOLID AND 95% RUST FREE. THE PAN/TUB IS PERFECT WITH NO RUST. THE JACK PICK UP POINTS, AND FRONT SUSPENSION PAN ARE EXTREMELY SOLID. THE ONLY RUST ON THE CAR IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT FENDER UNDERNEATH THE WEATHERSTRIPPING FOR THE TRUNK LID. THERE ARE ONE OR TWO OTHER VERY SMALL SURFACE RUST SPOTS IN ADDTION TO THIS, BUT THEY ARE VERY VERY MINOR AND EASILY REPAIRABLE. THERE IS A DENT AND SOME SCUFFING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE BODY. THE PREVIOUS OWNER RAN OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID A TRACTOR TRAILER THAT PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF HIM AND HIT A STREET SIGN. THE DAMAGE IS MINOR AND VERY REPAIRABLE. MY PLAN WAS TO SEND THE CAR TO A VERY GOOD BODY SHOP TO HAVE THESE THINGS ADDRESSED AND HAVE THE CAR PAINTED TO A VERY HIGHT STANDARD. THE SHOP THAT I WANTED TO PAINT THE CAR IS BOOKED UP FOR THE NEXT 5 MONTHS! I DO NOT WANT TO LET THE CAR SIT FOR 5 MONTHS + ANOTHER SEVERAL MONTHS (THEY REALLY TAKE THEIR TIME AT THIS SHOP) WHILE THE CAR IS BEING COMPLETED, SO I HAVE DECIDED TO OFFER THE CAR FOR SALE.
THE ORIGINAL INTERIOR IS IN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL CONDITION. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE RESTORED! THE DASH IS NEAR PERFECT AS ARE THE DOOR PANELS, SEATS, CARPETING, ETC. EVERYTHING WORKS EXCEPT THE CLOCK. AGAIN, THE INTERIOR NEEDS NOTHING. THE ONLY THING THAT IS NOT ORIGINAL IS THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL ONE AND IT IS INCLUDED. AS YOU CAN SEE THE CAR HAS 17 INCH CUP STYLE WHEELS. THEY ARE 7s AND 9s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s ARE GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO FIND SO DON'T MISS THIS ONE."

Notes: "A very nice example of the 1971 model year – California car until 2001 stored indoors since arrival in Georgia, original carpet and the original Vintage Blaupunkt AM/FM (including all books, and documentation). Unsure of the number of owners but car has been loved a great deal. Car has period correct badges and decals Garaged and very well maintained. I am unsure of the age of the new paint but appears to be of very high quality and was obviously professionally done. Seatbelts, headliner, visors and other interior areas in good to excellent condition. Seats have no tears or rips. Dash reflect some age as it has some fine cracks in the usual areas (was the final update I intended to do) Gauges all operate as does the Heat and Defroster. All systems are functional without exception. Car has incredible power and Transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. This car is nothing short of a head turner and gets more attention that many of my other cars including my Turbo’s. Trunk image(s) reflect a recently acquired tool wrap and the tools have not been moved into it – The tools are included as is the jack. Engine bay is nothing short of awesome. Since my acquisition car has been maintained regularly and has been stored with my other holdings in a climate controlled warehouse. Of course it has not been in the rain.
If you are a perfectionist seeking a car to tinker with, show and love – this is it.

Year: 1972
VIN Number: 9112102485
Winning bid: US $16,801.01
Date sold: Dec-03-06
Notes: "Exterior
Purchased from a local enthusiast, this 1972 Porsche 911T is a nice rust free example of an early 911. As this 911 has spent the majority of its existence in the rust free Nevada basin, the body and floor pan have escaped all the typical rust areas and no known major body or rust repairs have been discovered. There is indication of an older re-spay on the driver side fender, and a small amount of bubbling just visible on the same fender (see pic) but it appears to be the original unit. That is the only visible rust discovered, and overall this is a straight clean car that appears to be wearing almost all of its original paint.
Interior
As you can see this interior is certainly not without its 34 years of flaws. It still features all the original appointments, so the carpet is worn and the seats are overdue for upholstery.
The upper portion of the dash has several cracks from the desert sun, but the lower half with the leather grained face is still in very nice original condition. The older stereo is no longer functioning, and the rare A/C vents are all intact, but are the only remaining portion of the A/C system, which currently lacks the compressor, condenser and various hoses.
The instruments are all functional, except for the Tachometer which appears to have a ground issue (works but not accurately). The headliner and door panels are all still very presentable and fortunately this model was fitted with retractable seat belts.
Mechanical
It has a relatively new Clutch, Bilsteins, Stainless Steel Brake Lines, and the Hydraulic Chain Tensioner update. Recently, it was tuned and serviced including new plugs, a valve adjustment, a rebuilt mechanical fuel pump (by Fisher Industries in CA), and rebuilt axles (by ARE).
A few surviving receipts available and highlights include:
3/06 Gas Tank Removed and Chemically Treated (coated)
5/02 Cam Gaskets & O-Rings Replaced, New Plugs
4/02 Rebuild Speedo
1/02 New Perma-Tune & Adjust Intake Stacks
10/01 New Ignition Cable
8/01 Valve Adjustment & Torque Heads
6/01 Replace Oil Pump, Motor Mounts, Fuel Pump & Filters
6/01 New Oil Line Kit, Oil Hose Injection & Oil Seals
6/01 New Injectors, Plugs, Injection Belt & New Battery
8/96 Brakes & Belts
12/95 New Resistors
10/95 Service Cold Start
7/95 Recondition Transmission, Flush Fuel System
When parked it drops only a few small amounts of oil traced back to the front crank shaft seal, and though the tires have plenty of tread they are older and are due for replacement.
It stops straight, shifts smoothly, accelerates quickly and remains an absolute joy to drive."
