there seems to be no concrete evidence as to when these were used & why they were discontinued. one theory is that they were too light & transmitted too much road "noise" to the drivers hands. another is that steel was cheaper. any more ideas? this example has ZERO signs of having ever been mounted. outside of a couple of faint scratches in the spokes it appears to be NOS. the finish on the wood and metal is immaculate. stunning piece.

Last month I had the opportunity to have my 41 year old Santa Barbara Road Race program sign by the driver on the cover.
Don Pike, local '60's/'70's hot shoe and driver for the Don Burns Porsche dealership, had attended the Fabulous Fifties Concours d'Provenance the previous years so I brought my old program just in case............ ;)

Oooooh, i like the Hazet Assistant. I spent today in an independent Mercedes-Benz shop here in Denver (Stu Ritter, Inc.: he used to race a C Prod 911), helping to rebuild my E320 auto trans, and they had an original Hazet Assistant still in use, though with considerable patina!
