This 1967 Porsche 911 is a stellar example of the first-generation 911. The model year 1967 is considered by many of the early 911 fans as being the ultimate expression of the first series cars. The cars produced in 1967 were the beneficiary of multiple incremental improvements made to the 911 since its initial introduction in 1964. Although the first series 911 was also produced into the final year of 1968, that model year is considered less desirable by Porsche purists due to stringent government regulations that mandated ancillary smog equipment—which adversely affected performance and drivability. Hence, the 1964-67 models best embody the Porsche 911 purity of design. This is a matching-numbers car that directly corresponds to its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The mechanical and coachwork condition is exceptional. The rust-free body was taken down to bare metal and resprayed in its original color of Irish Green/6606. Just 8,000 miles ago, refurbishment was performed on all of the major systems of the car. The suspension received new polyurethane bushings and Bilstein shocks on all four corners, the front steering mechanism received new control-arm bearings and Turbo tie-rod ends, the transmission was rebuilt with new synchro’s and the clutch was replaced (disc, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and flywheel). The engine is in sound condition and has an SSI stainless-steel header and heat-exchanger unit installed. The SSI system actually exceeds OEM quality and is just one example of the many top-quality parts that were installed on this car. The most recent service took place in 2015—just 1,000 miles ago—for reasons of preventative maintenance and to attend to any and all details in the car. This is an opportunity to own a piece of Porsche history—a matching-numbers and thoroughly restored first-generation 911.

This 1965 Porsche 911 coupe is a sensational example of the car that redefined the company and quickly established itself as one of the ultimate sports cars of all time. Chassis number 302610, it was produced on October 14, 1965 and purchased new by Mr. Robert Sumpter of Los Angeles, California. Early models such as this are especially desirable as the purest realization of Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche’s original design with the original shorter wheelbase (increased by 2 inches beginning in 1968 production models) and particularly in such interior details as its simple instrument layout and upscale wood dash inserts. The 911’s timeless fastback shape is well dressed in brilliant Polo Red paint, with chromed steel wheels adding a restrained touch of flash. Much of the Black leatherette interior is original to this car, and includes a wood-rimmed 4-spoke steering wheel and a refurbished Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio. A Webasto heater supplies the ample heat that made it a favorite with drivers in cold climates and those facing winter rally conditions. The 911’s matching-numbers engine, number 902771, is mated to a Type 902/0 4-speed manual transmission. This 2.0L flat-6 engine impressed motoring journalists at its introduction with its willingness to rev, delivering 130 HP at 6,100 RPM and 129 lb-ft of torque at 4,200. This car received a major service in 2016 that included new fluids, filters and spark plugs and rebuilding its carburetors. The braking system and alignment were overhauled as well, and the car was also fitted with new shock absorbers, a new battery and new Firestone F560 radial tires specially designed for European classics such as this. Offered complete with date coded spare and jack, owner’s manual with sleeve, a copy of the factory Kardex and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this outstanding 1965 Porsche 911 coupe is prepared for the spirited experience that made the early 911 the classic it has become.

BaT Description:
This 1968 Porsche 911 Coupe was built on January 29, 1968 and is finished in Burgundy Red over Black Leatherette upholstery. The Kardex shows this example was sold new to Otto Zipper Motors in Los Angeles. The car has 63,899 original miles and remained with the same owner from 1985 to 2016. This 911 has been well-kept, with attention paid to keeping it as original as possible. It is described as solid throughout with no rust, factory floors, and an unrestored interior. The original engine (#3280697) remains in place, and though the five-speed manual transmission is a correct-type 902, it is not original. A thorough engine-out service was performed in 2016 that showed good compression numbers as detailed below. It is sold with a Kardex, Porsche CoA, and clean Texas title.
According to the Kardex, chassis #11835109 left the factory wearing optional bumper horns, tinted glass, ventilated chrome wheels, antenna, loudspeaker, and Pirelli Tires. 1968 was the final year for the short-wheelbase 911. The seller notes the Burgundy Red (6808) has a dull lacquer finish and minor touch-ups in a few areas. A paint depth gauge revealed that some of the paint is original and door/lid jambs retain factory paintwork with original identification plaques in place. The depth readings and an overall paint-diagram of the car can be seen in the gallery below. Blue factory primer is showing through the paint in several areas. Original Sekurit side glass and the Sigla windshield remain along with badges, lenses, and trim pieces. Original yellow tinted Hella fog lamps are intact and functional. Proper ventilated chrome wheels, lug nuts, crested hubcaps, valve holders, and new Michelin XZX tires were recently installed. Panel fit is consistent throughout, though the paint is chipped across the nose. Nicks, scratches, and finish variations are present throughout. The seller notes the rear deck lid has the largest exterior blemish. The front luggage compartment retains its original perlon carpeting in serviceable condition. Original wiring is well-preserved, and a spare tire, factory jack, and tool kit are present.
The interior retains a high level of originality with its factory carpets, door panels, dashboard, padding, headliner, and trim in place. Seats look to be free of cracks or tears, and the early-style 911 steering wheel is in good condition. Equipment includes Hickok Porsche-crested seat belts, period Coco mats, and a later Porsche Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio with 356-style speakers in the map pockets. The dash and loud speaker holes are free of cracking or splits. Gauges, switches and electronics are noted to be in proper working order apart from the clock. The original 1968 driver’s manual and technical specification booklet are still in the glove compartment.
A major service in April/May 2016 included a flush of all fluids with new filters, and replacement of the rotor, cap, plugs, plug wires, fuel pump, sway bar bushings, shifter bushings, bonnet struts, hatch struts, and wiper blades. The carburetors were also rebuilt, and the clutch and throwout bearing were replaced. The car is said to run well with even compression on all six cylinders ranging from 175-185 psi. The car retains its original 2.0L flat-six (#3280697) mated to a non-original 902 5-speed manual transmission.
The seller states that floors are original, and are described as free of corrosion with factory finishes, undercoating, and plugs. Known history indicates ownership in New Jersey back to the 1970s and the same owner from 1985 to 2016. The CoA details the original options and confirms the engine number. This looks like an nice preservation-quality short wheelbase 911 with long-term ownership history and a high level of originality.

Beginning June of 1966, Porsche began to develop the exclusive 911 Deluxe RS examples that are rarely known of today, even by the most knowledgeable marque enthusiasts. Porsche utilized 253 previously completed wood dash, Webasto heater cars, chassis numbered 304703-304955 that were removed from available current sales inventory.
Porsche then issued RS Ex. 13/66 the Rundschreiben pertaining to the 13/66 bulletin instructing the factory technicians of the changes that should be made to the 253 cars, creating the new model to be offered. This new model the 1967 Porsche 911 Deluxe RS would accompany the new base configuration 911 along with a sporty new 911S.
The factory Kardex build sheet for chassis 304769 verifies this car as one of the 911 Deluxe RS models in European configuration with matching original motor number 907962. The Ivory color combined with Kunstil Schwartz Pepita interior and sunroof all additionally verified on the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity accompanying the car. The hand-written notes on the Kardex show this car was then singled out of the 253 cars for additional internal desired modifications.
The changes from its original configuration were for further factory use from 7-19-66 through 11-10-66 with 7,600 kilometers were accumulated. The modifications to this car included the transaxle gears being changed to the new 911S ratio. The original engine block received the S crankshaft and S rods marked and pulled from the best weight matched produced parts available from the top 5 percent of production. Model year 1967 S piston and cylinders with the smaller second ring allowed for higher compression, while 67 S heads with the larger ports and 1 mm larger valves, 67 S cams, forged rocker arms and the 67 S IDS Webers with the secondary accelerator pump included. Resulting in nearly 200 horsepower with a high state of tune from the race bred nature of Porsche's soul.
The body received enlarged rear wheel arches to test wider offset wheel and tire combinations and came with wheel spacers and extended studs for increasing the rear track. This was a common procedure with factory trial cars in the workshop prior to and continuing at this time as development of the R model was soon to come and momentum was building toward the desired RS model's creation. With all of the modifications completed and the 7,600 kilometers of testing run, the predecessor to the first Porsche RS was styled by these design changes.
The car with all the technical innovations installed and tested was delivered to the handler as the last factory service correspondence between the handler Hahn Porsche dealership of Stuttgart and factory from the 7,600 kilometers recorded at intake on 9-9-66 service date through the 12-31-66 factory visit with 15,640 kilometers recorded. That represents 8,000 additional kilometers accrued in this short time while demonstrating the Porsche possibilities to prospective buyers through the Hahn of Stuttgart Porsche dealership. Visitors to the Porsche factory were directed to Hahn of Suttgart for an introduction of available models that could be experienced from the driver's seat. Porsche's considerable modifications and use of this car from its inception process clearly shows some of the beginnings in the thought processes involved surrounding future models made available to the public for sale.
The unique history associated with this chassis leaves a fine example thought to be one of one and very unique among the 911 Deluxe RS cars built. This car has received a sympathetic and meticulous restoration by a respected marque specialist with $175,000 spent over the last two years. The numbers-matching engine was disassembled and deemed to be in excellent condition with only new bearings, piston rings and seals being replaced. Meanwhile, carburetors were rebuilt to proper specifications and the transmission has been reconditioned with new synchros, a clutch, pressure plate and flywheel replacement. The original interior, with the exception of the new headliner, has remained untouched and reflects the honesty and pristine condition of this car, notice the original seats. The body is laser straight with uniform gaps and flawless paint application. The underside is detailed with all four corner suspension being restored after being completely removed. Notice the extremely rare original 4-headlamp screw European light configuration restored to as-new and matching the four corner European lens display.
This is an opportunity to own a first-generation RS, one that is an ultra-rare, highly optioned, historically significant and Kardex-documented car. This beauty achieved exceptional use in its first months of completion has today only 72,000 original kilometers currently. The sticker on the windshield reads ”STUTTGART INSPECTED COMMUNITY”— and is original to the car.
Doug, it's one of the one's in Allen's thread about the short-lived "deLuxe" ( http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...11-deLuxe-quot ). Mecum's taking great liberty in the meaning of "R.S." in this case.
Great Liberty indeed. I noticed that too.
