Michael,
whats happening with these brake adaptors ??
You thought they would be done by Jan this year ??
Michael has not visited this site since 12-28-06.
hmm, i was looking forward to seeing these units. well if they ever come to fruition, i'm interested in a set
I have offen wondered why no one has made a set of adaptors like these. With an early car with M calipers I would love to move up to bigger brakes without the hassel of changing struts, etc. I assume there is some liability issue if the adapters fail or some other reason no one has done it yet. I wonder how they hold up in extreme conditions? The stock mountings are very beefy. I am assuming for good reason. I am interested but don't want to be on the bleeding edge of somthing so important. I suspect that is why the thread has started to fizzle.
Just my thoughts.

Hi,
I remember seeing this thread but never really looked at it, but as I have just bought a SWB car and want to upgrade the brakes..... did anything happen with this? Did anyone produce something else? If not I may do something myself.
Thanks
Alan
PS. Can anyone quickly tell me when the first swb front suspension started with 3.5 inch brake ears?

I have a feeling that real life concerns may be interfering with his hobby pursuits--you know, things like family, job, etc., those bothersome little details that get in the way of urgent Porsche development. :DQuote:

I'm hoping he'll be back with an update in due time. I was fortunate enough to meet Michael at Fontana a few years ago, and he is really a nice guy and a great enthusiast for the early cars. I hope everything is OK with him.

Looks like the Stonecutters (aka Masonic Temple) may have gotten to Mike.
From "The Simpsons" Stonecutter song:
"Who controls the British Crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do, we do.
Who keeps Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do, we do.
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do, we do.
Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do, we do!
Who stops SWB normale and 912 owners from rear vented discs - THEY DO....:)
Hello Michael - good to see you back.
Wow...nice to know I am missed guys! Tom, your right, I have been slammed this winter, although I do have good news -- finally...I even took my cars out for some exersize this weekend...FINALLY! Gruen, The Stonecutters have been after this technolgy, although I have gone into hideing being protected by the Nights Templar -- they will not stop us SWB owners from having reasonalbly priced venter rear rotors!!!
When I returned from my defrost in the Bahamas this Jan I was going to get the first 20 kits ready. Well, I picked them up from the laser cutter and they were all wrong. Even though I supplied an accurate .dxf file with the dims and all, the material was 5/16 material instead of 1/4. They also instead of laser cutting it, they plasma cut it and they...well looked like CR#%! So, after a few not-so-nice works exchanged I found another vender who has promissed delivery this week. So, after a long hiatus I am back, the kits should be ready for the first 20 with-in a week )...or two at the most.(I did say this winter and I think Spring is on the 21st...so I will be a bit late).
I will let you know. I have 19 sets spoken for: Phil, John, Tom, Bob, Jens, Gruen911 (for two sets), Dave, Garry, Jerry (type901), rvanderpyl, Rolly Resos, 50/50, Platas, rstenson, pgif, silveranger, Bert (budge96), & Larry Grover.
I know I said $200 or less, although price of stainless (and all other metals) has gone up. I do not have a final figure, although it will not be more than $300. Probably real close though...
For payment, I will set up a paypal account for you. When the payment is recieved they will be shipped. So, in the meanwhile you will need to source a few things:
1) calipers and rotors off a 3,2. SC or earlier may work as well although I did not design them for that so there may be a bit of pad wear problems. I do not know
2) new flex lines and hard lines.
3) Pads
4) later style (<68) e brake shoes. They are about 1/8" narrower.
