I owned an original '70T that had a grey and ripply tank, which back in the day we all painted black!
I have seen other '69s with black undercoated tanks and '70s with grey undercoated tanks.
Just from poking around on other '69s the factory did a lot of black touch up as they did with 356s, but they did less by even 1970.
It's the smooth finish really not the color that prompted my question....I'm guessing replacement/refinish.

Hey Mark,

I'm beh911 (the owner). Carl has been replying to some of my crazy posts . The fuel tank is original but has definitely been redone in its past. I think ~1980. Knowing the previous owner, he would have kept the original finish but I don't know for certain what came from the factory. When I get the car back from some servicing, I will get some close ups of the tank for you.

- Maintenance record stamps - Note it is CURRENT and often times at his own 'over serviced' intervals via the stickers...:)

The. 2.0 thing is a much later 914 piece. Owner probably bought it thinking it was cool and thought he might do "something" with it. Over 40 years I've squirreled away bits that seemed to have some yet unknown potential!

Can that brochure about cold starting for mfi cars be right? 4,500 rpm for a cold engine?

That is what my manual says, but I only do 2K.

I hope you've purged the silicone brake fluid from the lines. That is really terrible stuff.

Very observant of you. It was the first thing to go. ATE Super Blue now. The spare parts smorgasbord included a second set of S calipers and pads :). The entire system has just been rebuilt and cleaned.

That is my one difference in opinion with the OO - that fluid had it's limelight a while back but Porsche never recommended it.

Yes, I used it on an old seldom used car thinking it would be more stable. Very spongy pedal and since it doesn't absorb water, the humidity ended up condensing in the Master cylinders and calipers and causing rust.
Your car was quite a find congratulations it is a jewel.
