Notes: "Up for auction is this 1972 Porsche 911t Targa. I purchased it just last weekend from the guy up the street who owned it for 4 years. I got it home and wanted to take the family out for a ride but my better half would not let me put the kids, ages 4 and 7, in the back because it has No Seatbelts . After a few hours of debating, you know who one..
Lets start with whats bad about the car:
The car needs paint. It use to be green but now its black (looks good from far but far from good). The only rust that I could find is a small couple of bubbles around the gas tank lid on the left fender (pictured). The drivers side seat has a big rip in the left side bolster from getting in and out. They are not the original seats. The guy who had it before my friend wanted it to look like an RS model so it has a duck tail and a front air dam. It also has a bigger set of tires on the back. Doesn't look bad but not original. The engine has weber carbs which are not original. The carbs should be tuned for better performance bettween 2 and 3 thousand rpm. The Targa top fits but the seals should be replaced and its missing the left handle that secures the top.
The good.
The car starts , stops , shifts and runs out good. I have driven the car every day since I purchased it. I have sat in Atlanta traffic coming home from work and taken it down back roads and opened it up. The car handles very well and the brakes are very good no pulling to the left or right. The engine is very strong and the throttle response with the webers is very exciting. The headlights and brake lights work as do all the gauges inclding the clock. The floor pans look good.
Overall the little car is really fun and I was looking forward to bringing her back to a more original form while I drove her around. I think with a little effort this car would be a real prize for someone."

Winning bid: US $17,000.00
Date sold: Aug-28-07
Notes: "You are bidding on a clean and original 1971 911T. It has new PMO carbs, and a very solid and straight body/chassis. It has 16" Fuchs installed that are in great shape, and really help the handling. The paint is in good condition, but has some chips that have been touched up. It has been repainted but is the original color. It was a quality windows out(side windows left in)/fenders off paint job. The front and rear window gaskets were replaced. You will have trouble finding one this rust free. The previous owner had two holes about the size of a golf ball on the drivers side floor repaired professionally, as well as a small area around the accelerator pedal, and a small area in the forward part of the trunk. The front fenders are rust free. Rear fenders are rust free. The only drawback about the body is the small dent on the drivers side rear fender, and some very slight bubbling on the surface of lower drivers door. Its an easy fix though. Everything else is rust free!! New parts include, brand new front and rear Boge shocks, new stainless brake lines, turbo tie rods, front brake pads, genuine Porsche batteries (2), new starter, new trunk carpet, new Yokohama tires and a new fuel tank. The front brakes/hardware have been reconditioned as well. The interior is in very good condition. The dash is not cracked and is excellent. It has very good seats with a cloth insert to keep you from burning yourself on hot days. I think they look much sportier than the entirely vinyl ones. The carpet could use a little work, but is still good to fair. The door pockets are good to fair but they all seem to live a rough life in these cars. The odometer has stopped working. No surprises on this car. I have receipts. You are getting a very very nice, clean, and original example. Doesn't need a single thing. You gotta love these cars in metallic silver, absolutely beautiful."

Winning bid: US $8,566.00
Date sold: Aug-29-07
Notes: "This is a beautiful 1971 Porsche 911T Coupe, VIN#9111121480 in amazing condition. Odometer shows 65k miles, but likely 165k. Runs and drives very strong with smooth shifts between all 5 gears and great braking. Excellent tires with a Fuchs spare. The car comes with extensive repair/maintenance records through a Porsche/Audi shop dating back to 1985. Also includes the original Owner’s Manual, Porsche maintenance record book, and coupon for free scheduled services. Finally, a Hirschmann antenna manual is included and for some reason has two very small keys with it (I have no clue why). Absolute blast to drive!
Body/Paint: All panel gaps and lines appear to be flawless. Still appears to wear ALL of its original body tags and stickers…including in the engine compartment. The paint was obviously an extremely high quality job and maintains a mirror finish just as seen in photos…one of the best black finishes I’ve seen on any car. You’re sure to find a small scratch or chip or two, but absolutely nothing hard on the eyes. The body is extremely straight and haven’t even spotted so much as a door ding.
Interior: Some photos seem to give the seats a blue tint, but the interior is black. Seats are in excellent condition with only one hole the size of your pinky nail on the passenger seat bottom. Carpet is excellent. Dash is very nice with only the typical speaker area cracks.
This Porsche is about as rust-free as these classic 911’s come. Important when buying an early 911, here is a disclosure of the rust I found: Small, very minor rust beginning on the top of driver side front fender where mated to the hood cowl. One spot of bubbling at bottom rear corner of front driver side fender about the diameter of a golf ball. One thumb-sized spot of bubbling on the rear quarter panel at the top of the door jam area. Two very small spots of extremely light scaling at bottom edge of rear passenger side quarter panel. All very easily repairable. The floor pan is almost entirely free of rust except some thinning under the driver’s seat area. The battery boxes and front suspension pan are completely rot-free and have been successfully protected by the undercoating. The paint is so nice that I would simply have these spots repaired and color-matched. All issues clearly photographed below.
Due to 911 inexperience, someone dented the pan area just below both suspension points caused by poor lift/jack placement."

Year: 1973.5
VIN Number: 9113103297
Winning bid: US $13,500.00 (BIN)
Date sold: Aug-29-07
Notes: "You are bidding on a very straight and solid 1973.5 911T Sunroof Coupe with the rare Sportomatic trans. Also has the optional S brakes and steel front spoiler along with 6" Fuchs alloy wheels. Some sort of cool looking after market fog lights have also been installed by a previous owner.
The floors, rockers, rear suspension pick up points are factory and rock solid. For some unknown reason, both lock posts have some rust in them and will need some repair in the future. The front suspension pan has been replaced. Both batteries are new Interstates and fit the boxes correctly. The boxes are original and not rusty.
The engine is number 6139486 and is the original and has recently been completely rebuilt to 2.7 specs which required opening up the case and cylinder head bores to accept the larger 90mm piston/cylinders. Turbo valve covers and later pressure fed tensioners were also installed at the same time. Air box is also fitted with a pop off valve. Engine runs very strong. Sporto trans must have a leaking vacumn hose or hole in the vacumn reservoir as it presently isn't shifting properly. Should be a pretty straight forward fix. You can start it in all 4 gears and drive it. You just can't shift it. Clutch is not that old so that shouldn't be the problem. If you don't care for the Sporto, a switch to the 915 5 speed is fairly easy to do and the parts are plentiful. Whereas, parts for the Sporto aren't readily available anymore.
Car has been repainted once in the original silver color. Not a show or concourse job, but presentable for a driver. Interior was red originally and has been redone in same red color. Dash pad has one of the aftermarket covers on it. Body shop mis-placed the bumper guards so they do not come with the car. The sunroof works perfectly. In fact,it works better than any of my other four 900 series cars. Not noisy and works very smoothly!"

This is a good running RARE Metallic Silver/Black Leather 1973 911T Targa with A/C. The body was restored 10 years ago but is beginning to show its age and there is some rust bubbling under the paint in the typical problem areas. The interior was also restored at that time and is still in very good condition. There was an extensive drivetrain mechanical restoration completed only 8,000 miles ago in 2001. This is the ideal car to restore again because so much restoration work was already done and most of it is still in very good condition.
Rust areas: bubbling lower portion of both doors, bubble below r/f healight, rust developing in r/f floor, l/f pedal area and outer jack points."
