This 1971 Porsche 911E Targa is a matching-numbers example offered by the third owner. The car is stock and unmodified with its original MFI pump and intake and finished in its correct Silver Metallic. The sale includes a Porsche COA verifying original engine #6210631 and original gearbox #111269. This is a longtime California example that was sold new at Green Motors Porsche Audi in Norwalk, CA on 2/12/1970. It has been partially restored over the years with new paint and a replaced front suspension pan, and overall presents as an honest driver. The car’s history is recorded from new, having been under long-term ownership with the second owner for over 40 years. Included are the original keys, owner’s manual, warranty booklet, toolkit, jack, and all registration records dating to 1973.
The original owner kept the car for one year before selling it to the second owner who kept it through 2014. The car has been repainted in correct Code 80 Silver Metallic, and though exhibiting flaws in a few areas the seller says the finish is quite good overall. Optional 15″ Fuchs are worn with chipping paint and some curb rash, but wear new Falken ZE612 195/50/15 rubber at all four corners. It is very cool to see a 911E factory optioned with 15″ Fuchs, as many were factory equipped with 14s. The spare Fuch still has what’s believed to be its original Pirelli CN36 tire.
Corrosion is visible with bubbling beneath each headlight– above is a close-up shot of the passenger side. Inner aprons, wheel tubs, fenders, quarter panels and rockers are all very clean, and previous rust repair replaced the front suspension pan and left front battery box. The seller adds that the removable Targa top has been restored and is in very good condition. There is a small dent in the front bumper and a small paint crack behind the left side door (see photos).
The black leatherette interior looks correct and suits the driver-quality condition well. The dash shows a small crack near the right edge of the instrument binnacle, but reupholstered black leatherette seats, carpets, headliner and door trims are all in good shape. The passenger door map pocket and top sill trim piece are missing. All gauges, dash lights, exterior lights, turn signals, horn, license plate lights and under bonnet lights work as do the heater fan and wipers.
The original 2.2 liter six could benefit from good detail but remains all stock including the original MFI system and pump. The seller says it occasionally smokes a little when first started cold, but quickly warms and idles smoothly with good oil pressure and no odd noises. Overall this appears to be an honest E Targa that won’t win any concours awards but looks perfect for rallies and weekend drives.

Offered here is a matching numbers, right-hand drive Porsche 911E 2.4 finished in the very pleasing combination of Light Ivory with a black interior. The original service maintenance record shows AFN Ltd. carried out the car's initial service on 24-10-72 after 531 miles. It was subject to very comprehensive restoration in 1994/5 by Marque specialists Autofarm, who are well known for keeping detailed records of their work, and the history file contains a very full inventory of this restoration together with photos and invoices cataloguing the considerable expenditure. At the same time, the colour was changed from Sepia Brown to the current Light Ivory. The car's original specification included a factory steel sunroof. This delightful Ivory 911E presents well today, but would benefit from a little recommissioning as it has stood for some time. It is a striking, solid and usable example of this early seventies matching numbers Porsche.
The 911E was regarded as the most dynamic and best driving 911 in period, and at today's guide certainly looks tempting for the enthusiast or investor.

It's with much regret that I post this beautiful 911E Targa for sale. My intention was to purchase an early rust-free 911 with an original color of sepia brown per the Certificate of Authenticity and restore back to it's original glory while keeping in mind that everything couldn't be changed with the exception of color. This is that early 911 I have been after. After much deliberation for months, I have finally decided that the undertaking at this time in my life just doesn't make sense now. This is a matching numbers car that has an incredibly strong engine and pulls so well matched by it's flawless shifts. Liquids were changed out recently including replacement of the alternator, front and rear deck lids and a new gas pedal. I have maintenance records dating back from 1992 (2nd owner) to present (3rd owner). I encourage a PPI of the vehicle prior to purchase as I am very confident of its mechanical condition.
