Platas - I'm interested in the shift knob. Can you pm me with price and post a picture?
This car was ordered through an independent dealer in Seattle, actually Soterik's father, with USA equipment for ultimately delivery to Seattle. However, the car was initially delivered to the Netherlands, as per the COA and as all Soterik's father's cars were.
I think you are right on the lettering - I've got to research that. One of the PO's went with the later trim look, so I think it should be silver but not certain on a gold car.
Thanks for any help getting it back to original.
I will take it out from the stuff i have, and send you a pic, would love to call you, but, well i can use my calling card its cheap way,i live in spain. You see my car was original gold, like yours, but it was changed to the blue, from that date, but the letters and emblems for 71 where silver, some have gold letters, but iam not sure if this is correct, may be the guys can tell us. It has the italian turn signals.
Does anyone own a '69 in silver metallic? I'd love to see pics!
Bob:
She looks great! More gold in Atlanta!

Vin #9110101614

Originally an american that was imported to Holland in 1997. I do not have any info about that car before 1997 :(
very nice! :)
It needs yellow lenses! They would look fantastic on a blue car, too!
yea and deep six's and sport seats and fogs and blaupunkt and
just kidding real nice car love that color
C'mon man...it's in France! :)Quote:

and blaupunkt ? The radio is a problem. I do not want to kill my door panels and I have the wrong dashboard. So I do not have speakers
sport seats, yes optional on all models
below the bumper fogs would be 169's or 139's (same light confusion on model #)
maybe some through the grill fogs/driving lights too. of course that will require finding proper horn grills too.;)
blaupunkt franfurt was std. radio, had std. single std. speaker in dash top. no mods necessary
They come up on Ebay occasionally. You could use this on your current lenses:Quote:

No doubt, one of my absolute favorites i've seen to date.
Hella 169 ? Beeeeaaark !

I definitively prefer the Hella 128, or may be the small ones that goes on the grill like the light blue above ! Do you konw the make or the ref. of these lights ?
various suppliers on the round driving/fogs through the grille but likely Cibie as I think that was what P was suppling
The horn grill lights were made by Hella for Porsche, model 118. Came in various styles, h-3 bulb fog, tungsten bulb (US) fog, h-1 fog (Italy?), h-3 driving (US and Euro), h-1 driving (Italy?), also some fogs were yellow reflector, and some were "clear" reflector.Quote:

Gotta love that car Eric! :D
So t Eric , what is that seat belt set up in your car? Beefy.
Great interior , unreal engine room. What, no wiper for the passenger ?
John
Andy...year and model?
Soterik, I'm curious why you're still using the factory air cleaner set up? I would think that set up would be more restrictive than individual air cleaner housings.
72' S, aluminum 67' S case, 2.4 S pistons and cyls, HD valve springs, solex cams, weber carburators, sport muffler... work in progress canyon screamer!Quote:
Andy...year and model?
I prefer the factory housings and factory exhaust systems....personal preference. The only other way I would run the intake would be with "table tops", I don't like the looks of KN's. Seat belts are vintage racing lap belts from an old Speedster that I have. Regarding the wiper...passengers don't need to see where they are going...:)Quote:

I never really gave it much thought, I bought the car with that motor in '99. Although the solex cams give the car a little better pull at lower rpm but still comes alive around 5500 up to 7200 redline.

OK she is finally almost there... 99% complete. "Grandma" has finally had a make over and she is feeling very good.
Here is a little history. She began life as a '72 T and has been in San Diego her whole life. My friend Volker Bruckmann, a racer and engine builder... and probabaly up there with any other Porsche engine builder in my opinion, bought her in the early 80s and raced it in Baja. Volker, a native of Wolfsburg Germany, has always loved racing and found himself in 1970 in the Porsche pits at the Daytona 24 hour race. There he assisted the Porsche Salzburg team with their 917 Porsche. Volker's usefulness ensured his presence at Sebring, Watkins Glen, and through the 1971 US season in the newly formed Martini-Rossis Porsche Team under Udo Schutz and Hans-Dieter Dechent. He took part in the overall victory at Sebring in 1971. Meanwhile Volker's own racing came alive. NASCAR's Ministock division presented the challenge in nashville and at Highland Rim in his "hot" VW. Professionally he moved into Porsche and Audi by 1970, working the new franchise in Nashville as head mechanic. Riverside's Off-Road World Championship in 1982 introduced Volker to a different brand of motor sports competition. By November 1983, the first Porsche-powered win was executed by Mark Mcmillin in taking the overall four-wheel crown at the Baja 1000. Mark won three more Baja 1000 overall titles with Volker's Porsche off-road race engines. From 1982 through 1988, Volker's Porsche engines changed the face of the sport. At that time, he developed several successful Baja 1000 winning engines for the McMillin’s, Larry Ragland and Denny Letner. People said before that the Porsche 911 engine did not make enough low end torque to be useful in SCORE competition. In 1978 and 1980, he took his 911E to finish 6th in GTU and 6th in GTO at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Also, he won the PCA zone 8 top honors in 1979 and 1980. He designed his own engines and his own 911 camshafts. His motors work so well from 2000 to 7000 rpm that you may punch the throttle fully at 2000 in first (without touching the clutch) and the car will leap with squealing rear tires towards a 0-60 mph at 4 seconds and storm through the gears to its top speed of over 160 mph at 7300 rpm.
Now back to the ’72 RS Replica. Volker raced it at the 1989 La Carrera Classico from Ensenada to San Felipe, Baja, California. After a 200km all out run against Steve Saleen in his hot Mustang, the car, nicknamed "Grandma," beat Saleen by some 15 seconds with Stefan Schleissing of Germany at the wheel placing 4th overall.
Volker, won the Vintage class and finished 2nd overall that day with his 3.5 liter ‘68 912 Targa (named Grandpa).
Grandma has never bent or hit, has all the good stuff in it and is rust free. Camber bar, Bilstein front struts, 917-930 calipers and rotors, early Koni rear adjustable shocks, drilled custom torsion bars, adjustable Weltmeister anti-sway bars and a huge front oil cooler. SSI stainless steel heater boxes with a Bursch exhaust that makes the finest sound you can imagine.
Her ride is firm but not brutal. The car responds like a go-cart with superb balance. The car has polished Fuchs wheels; 6” front with 195/60/15 and 7” rear with 215/60/15 and also a set of 7” front and 8” rear BBS-style, spoked and polished wheels with larger Yokohama tires (these are included in the auction), front uses 225/50/ZR16 and rears are 245/45/ZR16.
The engine was just fully overhauled with new Mahle piston and cylinders, Glyco bearings, timing chains, Carillo rods, new guides/valves/springs and Volker's special camshaft. 2x46 triple barrel Weber carbs and Holly red fuel pump with gauge and PMO regulator provide the mixture to propel this little rocket. The case and heads are from an early 930 and the heads had been ported and polished. The 3.3 liter engine is rated at approximately 300hp and max torque of 280 with a car weight of 2,100lbs with a 25 gal fuel tank. The hp weight ratio will tell you what the car is capable of. I've owned a GT3 and this car "feels" faster though I cannot defintely say which would out perform the other. Comapred to the GT3 this car is by far much more fun to drive. I am a Navy pilot and it would be like comparing an F-18 to a P-51 Mustang. I'd take the P-51 anyday.
Volker by the way is a very good friend. I have invited him and his wife to join me and Sandee in a couple fo weeks for our Palms to Pines weekend in Palm Springs. Whoever is coming that weekend please welcome him.
By the way Volker was a very good friend of Al Holberts. A couple of years ago Volker was inspired to write a book on Al's life because of not only the impact he made on racing but also the impact he had on his own life.
I feel privilaged to be her current owner.
Here are a few more pictures...
Great lookin' car, Doc - looks as sanitary as an operating room. I also like the sheer line on that 48' (or there abouts) schooner in image #1. I have a friend who flew a Marine F-14 in southeast Asia in that era and when he came home, built an Alpina-style BMW 2002 so he could fly low on the rural backroads of Wisconsin. Evidently a private license and a Mooney 201 just didn't get the adrenalin flowing like the Tomcat.
Jim
Awesome story Cap'n, car looks real clean too.
Sent you a PM.
I had mine out for it's first drive around San Diego today.:)
WOW!
What type of muffler do you run?
Bursch Sport Muffler... sound at open throttle is heaven!
Hopefully this will show the car I have just purchased. :)
And, just to avoid misunderstandings; I do not drive the car in snowy conditions and the Hundai is not my car
Nice! But I guess I'm partial, almost a twin to my car. :)
Hopefully this worked..... 69 E Soft window, originally tangerine, prev. owner had to paint it red in the 80's........
Factory sport seats, & above the bumper driving lights, 5 speed, still has MFI...... runs like a train.

This is a great thread and I am overdue on posting my car. Sherwood Lee sent me a nice photo of my car (driving on the 101 before the foolish "airplane" ticket) on the way up to R Gruppe 2005 in Monterey, so I dug up a few more photos to share with the board.
My 1970 911T has the original 2.2 powertrain with the following features:
- S Suspension and Brakes.
- 21 mm Front Torsion Bars.
- 26 mm Rear Torsion Bars.
- 19 mm Front Sway Bar.
- 18 mm Rear Sway Bar.
- Short Gears (3.090, 1.889, 1.318, 1.040, 0.820)
- Webers.
- Some Lightweight deletion options.
I just picked mine up last Friday ... 400 miles on it by Sunday, ... what a pleasure life can be sometimes ...

That's the 'E' targa that was for sale for long time, isn't it? GREAT looking car.
karlusmagnus,
I think I have seen that car for sale for a long time around the net. Congratulations on your new early 911!
Erick
Thanks guys ... i am thrilled, and even more so with the whole process ...
Harold was a pleasure to deal with ... fellow early911S+Pelican who did right by me and was as patient as Job .... as a newbie i had lots of silly and seemingly stupid questions ...
I did my PPI with recommendations from board ... no ebay/schmee-bay .... just straight forward honest sale ... what more could a fella ask for.
My thanks again to all here as it was all of you who educated me with your posts, and with your kind responses to some of my PM's ...
The virgin thrill of taking possession of your very first porsche, the nervous excitement of taking off in a puff of engine fuel and growling throttle like a panting game cat ready to unleash its power ...
I have to stop .. i do really .. i am getting carried away, but you get the idea ... i am lucky to have such fun in a more or less legal fashion ...
Thanks again ...
Karl.

Three thumbs up on that ride. Sweeeet. I will watch the stats next season.
Um, I once owned a cool white car. Now I only have a green one. I am going to go and bang my head against the garage wall some more. Shawn.
Edited: to properly identify that I was quoting Gburner. I will now go back into the garage and resume my head banging over selling that South Bay Area/Alaska/Arizona SWB POS rust bucket to that farmer in Virginia. ;)

I have visited the site many times but this is my first posting. Here's my 1969 E that I have been restoring for over a year. The original owner replaced the engine over 30 years ago with a 2.2 S (MFI) engine. It has been rebuilt and runs great. I've had all the metal work done and returned it to the original Irish Green with saddle brown interior. We pulled the engine and transmission and completely undercoated the body so it looks as good underneath as it does on top. I'm detailing the engine while it's out and had the transmission rebuilt. I need to complete the reassembly. My goal is to have it back on the road Summer 2006. I've attached before and during restoration pictures.
This website has been a tremendous source of information and I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm for the early 911's! If you like to drive, there's nothing better!
CO911E,
Great job and welcome...Thats going to be one beautiful ride next summer.
CO911E
One of my favorite colors. Keep us posted on your progress. Welcome!
CO911E - great colors! Keep us posted on progress.
Shawn... re: the white car.
We're all just caretakers for these beasts, they shall outlive us all. You've done your duty with that particularly nice one... so no regrets.
Well... maybe one regret - I heard Ms. Aniston is particularly fond of guys in white SWB 911s.
Mudi - either that's a 3/4 scale 911, or you are one tall dude!!
This thread is coming up on 1k posts and 80K views!! I'll throw up another pic... the closest you could get to a factory silver 1973 RS.
:)

Saved to file. Sweet car. JCR you are correct, Sithot has perfomed improvements on that white car that are near Pebble Beach restoration grade. It is his car now.
I do have an old family car pic to throw up. Before another picture of that dang green car that you all have seen so many times.

Nice looking E...
Jeff,
That is really a great looking Coupe. Lots of neat stuff going on there, like gas burners, black bumper guards, and that interior, especially the seats are fantastic.
Time to post my photo. I've shown off a few details of the interior in the past to brag about Autobahn's work.
It's a 73.5 T with low mileage, mostly original paint and nice documented service history since new. I have seen a sport seat combo like Jeff's on COA's but never in a photo. I have sorced the tan plaid houndstooth and a set of 73 sport seats to do a similar set up in my car but haven't taken the next step. It currently has regular seats in this combo.
The extent of my tweeking has been 914-6 wheel, factory short shift, rebuild seats and 930 tensioners with safety collars.

Daron
Hey Daron, that shot of your yellow car looks like it maybe on the Parkway somewhere. We should get a few of us NC guys together sometime.
I keep noticing some headlights with a very wide chrome metal surrounding the headlights. Some have a very small chrome surround. What is difference between these light surround? Are they specific to models T, E or S? Are they specific to years? Whats the story on them?
Max,
The last two posts by Darren have the wider chrome rim for the US spec cars. This design started in 68 and continued with the same theme thru '86. The narrower rims came in three styles: on Jims '65 were the type on the <68 cars and are simillar to the VW and 356 unit. The types on Andys are H1s although both the H1 and H4 are common upgrades to early cars(H1 68-72, H4 72-??); These were Euro spec lights as the US required sealed beams.
These could be found on any model though and all interchangeable.
Cheers,
I am excited to be getting back into the Early S world again. My wife and I are going to try to clean up the car as best as we can and with some help put it back together. At least the tags are current, the aluminum decklid is painted, and the cool recaros or scheels are ready! One more semester of grad school and then i'll really have the time.

Yeah guys, I think about ol Sam every now and then. What a tragedy. I thank him and Tom for all the hard work and $$$ that went into Orangello. All I had to do was tweak the suspension and then drive the hell out of it. It is one quick 911.

My First Porsche. 73.5T driver with 215,000 miles. Bought on my wife's birthday 5 years ago. 1 repaint, reasonably straight. PO painted bumpers black. My goal for the car? 500,000 miles. Slow painful restoration planned once the kids are out of daycare. Gathering parts and enjoying until then.
Nice car, just bought one but in bahia red, 73.5 too.
I just found this photo of my car recently. It's just a snapshot when I was cleaning the car last summer. Silver is VERY difficult to photograph and show any depth. For whatever reason, the lighting was just right here (btw: the car will have a whole new look in about 2 months!).
not mine check this out its a twin:eek:

Looks nice and the 73.5 is a great car -- love that color! And what a joy for your kids to "grow up" in a Porsche -- can't get better than that. Good luck on both fronts.
Cheers,
That sounds like the kind of car that deserves the mega 'T' money we were seeing some original examples go for this summer. I bet a flipper buys it here in the off season and holds it until May for profit.
Haven't seen an early Sand Beige SWB car.
Here's my '68, picture taken at a local park as I prepared to put the car away from the winter. It's not an S...not even an L...just a standard coupe. And outside of some rust repair and repaint in the original color, I've tried to keep it as it was originally delivered.
Very nice looking car Roger. Wecome to the group! Love that color, as you said, not vary many around.

Welcome, Steven! Thanks for posting! Nice '72...looks very much like mine...what was the build date?
Welcome Steven, where about are you in Holand, i will be there this week.
Hi Peter, not exactly sure, but it's VIN ending 815 so I think one of the later ones that year? You have a silver Targa as well?Quote:

I used to have a girlfriend from Cork here in Seattle. She's gone, but my desire to visit County Cork is still with me. What fantastic pictures; perhaps one of these days I'll take a job with my current company in Dublin and get a chance to see the South in the flesh.Quote:

Look'n GREAT !!!!
Cheers,
Here's my ST look '72T last weekend. A 7 year project in the making, it's close to being finished. I autocrossed it for the first time in 2 1/2 years while sick with a 101 degree temperature - didn't do well but learned alot. I'll be getting the seat time I need over the next 6 months while the car gets a couple of refinements - both will help quite a bit.
the cars look outstanding.
Simon are those RS flares or turbo flares?
The flares are RS flares. The car sits rather low, having been set up a while ago by a well known 911 punter. It handles so well that I havent been game enough to fiddle with it, even though it is fairly adjustable. Wheels are 15" in that photo to comply with the regs on the day.

Now that is one gorgeous car down to the last detail. Congrats on a beautiful color and just the right 'look'.
72tii, congratulations on a very nice car, great color, sunroof.... great car
Just sold the Boxster and was all ready to purchase a new Cayman S, and started thinking about the arbitrary pricing on the car. When does a coupe cost $10K more than it's convertable conterpart? So I took my 1971 911S out of storage for the past 15 years to drive in the meanwhile as I ponder Porsche's pricing philosophy. Will be going through a complete retsoration including replacing a few pieces of sheet metal, new weather strips, interior and down to the metal paint. Engine passed all the compression and leak down tests with flying colors. Just had to de-rust the tank and seal it before I even tried starting it. And luckily I did, huge amount of varnish and rust poured out. Nevertheless, I have all the rusted sections removed and replacing them with complete OEM panels. Should once again be the concour winner that it was before it was put away. Time marches on. Hell, I may just forego the Cayman S all together when I re-discover the wonders of the 911. :)
You own a much nicer car than the Cayman S already. :D
My car was delivered to SonAuto in Paris and ended up in Canada. Original except for a re-paint in 1996.
Some very nice clean original examples. Makes me wish I could afford 2 cars.
Bob, really a nice shot of your car. Almost looks like it's ready to make a run at Bonneville.
Bburcha, very nice car. could you please post some more pictures?
Thanks
Burcha, that's a great looking Porsche.
Here's a shot of my car from this past weekend...
Henry, I have posted more pictures of my car.Quote:

Here is my car. Not the best pictures but I got the car today, after it has been stored at a friends dealership since I bought it. I had to wait for the snow to melt before I wanted to move it. Car started in Italy, then Sweden and now Norway.

Nice car. Too bad about the photos. I know a guy who could help you with that.:D
Car looks great. Give me a few weeks and we'll put together a run with MK. It may be time to expand the Non Club to include early 911s.
P.S. You got snow tires for that thing? You may need them before the day's out.
Bob Tilton
That is an outstanding shot of your car. Love that color too. If I hadn't stuck with the original Bahama Yellow on my '69. I would like to have gone with your color. Know what you mean about a second car. It will be grey.
John,
Love your Viper Green ride. What a great color, not going to many of those running around Norway. Don't sweat the muffler skirt, do the seats in Houndstooth, put on the side Deco trim and have a ball driving it this summer.:)
Zitlord, I know that car very well. It's riding on my old Fuchs! I almost bought that car some 20 years ago. I has been in many good hands in Sweden. The rebuild was done by Stefan Stålknapp and he also built the 2.7 RS spec engine.
I remeber we had a "do or die" "Aston Martin" test once at airstrip south of Stockholm, I chickened out so he won when i saw the strip ending.... By then I had Hiavata, a Bahia Red -73 S with a 2.7 RS spec engine.

I heard it was for sale, good luck with this very nice car!
AT...Bburcha...why don't you fellas meet with me half way down the QEW for a run? Ft Erie here. :D
hello guys, which car is for sale the green one.
Hey Paul
I know I've been saying this for months now but I really do almost have my car on the road. Just having my suspension sorted out at the moment. I hope to be up and running in a few weeks. We'll hook up then.
My god, the Porsche planet is a small place!
I am driving on your old fuchswheels, do you know what year they are? Its really nice to hear from somebody that knows my car. I wondered, do you know when the engine rebuild was done and when the car was imported to Sweden. Sadly I don’t have a lot of history on the car except that I have some old Swedish magazines that featured the car.
To all you others, thanks for all the positive comments especially about the colour, witch I love.
John

Ed, that is one beautiful car, congratulations
Very nice, Ed. What color is that?
I'm in for the Niagara thing. :D
Thanks for the comments. The color is 888 Gold Metallic. Like many of the bold colors of that period it changes, sometimes dramatically, with amount of light that hits it.
What a Georgia peach!
Gorgeous
Ed,
Wow...what a car you have, love those early seventies colors.
Great lic. plate...thanks for sharing :D
Absolutely gorgeous Ed.....
I'll join the pack in the slum area:
72 911T coming back from a long hibernation.
Tell me it's not as rusty as it looks!
Matt...you may want to change to Matt162435162435 as your PreA is gone ;)
Nice project thought...I don't see any rust
Cheers,
...paint it Sepia Brown!
Nobody will be able to tell... ;)
BRING IT BACK, they all deserve it!:)
The car is REALLY not very rusty at all. The pans are solid as a rock, not even discolored. The only rust is on the lower door like you see, and on the fender where the damage is. It spent 15 years in a garage, then about 4 years outside on a homemade parking pad. The pad was a little small and the weeds crept up around the door, but no vegetation could grow underneath, so no rust.
Thanks thorsten, it's definitely coming back! The fact that when I cruise around the streets finished and can tell people I paid $1000 for the car is enough motivation to deal with any issues. And Sepia it will be.
I've been meaning to change that screen name for sure. The 1342 is left over from years ago when I was driving water-cooled VWs, and 1342 is the firing order. Glad somebody caught that!
A couple more. This is the floor with the carpet pulled back. I dont have a pic underneath yet but no rot under either.
First sight of my new 2.4E

Your car looks awesome. I like the R Gruppe touches.
More photos would be nice.
Thanks so much guys. I'll post more pictures soon. I'm planning on setting up a link so I can post high res pictures and save the boards bandwidth. Special thanks to Garth to aka Gruen911 for the Irish Green formula and Kevin aka KevinP73 on Pelican who painted the car.
My pleasure Bobby. Your car looks gorgeous in irish green - especially with the race seats!Quote:

To place further pics, just add them under the "manage attachments" button. There is a limit but I'm sure we won't mind multiple posts to add further pics.
Do you want to give me a heart attack? WOW, what a car!!!   Do we want more pics? HELL YES. Can you actually put them in a separate thread in the General forum? I have tons of questions that aren't quite appropriate for the "Show your ride" forum.
Ah...! I'm familiar with that car and a few bits on it. I was in contact with Adrian Grundy for a few years before he sold it. Spectacular car! I guess that it's one of 3 or 4 with right hand drive, right??Quote:

Between this 68 T/R and the new guy with the slate gray 71S s/r coupe in Geneva, the bar on this board has been raised yet again for remarkable early 911 cars.
what a great car;my type of car
Welcome to the forum Philip.
Are you driving down to Classic Le Mans again this year ?
There's quite a contingent of early 911's driving down in convoy (nearly 40 of us) & taking the Portsmouth ---> Caen ferry late on Wed evening.
Hi Andy,
I am, but am travelling on the first ferry from Portsmouth on Friday. Not sure if I'm going to take the TR this time - my wife prefers something a little less noisy! However I expect to have the TR out at the Silverstone Classic later in July (in the paddock that is).
Regards,
Philip
Philip,
Wow...what a classic peice of history that it. Congrats and welcome!
As requested have posted some more pictures of my 1968 TR
Wow! Was it delivered RHD?
WOW!!
Say, not to be overtly greedy or anything, but any pics of the interior possible down the line? Engine compartment?
What a super car.
A.B.
I'm running out of decent photos. The car is in having its annual checkover at the moment. When it's back next week I'll take some more photos and start a separate thread.
In answer to the question - yes, it was originally RHD. It was picked up from the factory by Dan Margulies and Rob Mackie - well known European amateur racers in the 1960s. They drove it straight to Italy and did the Circuit of Mugello in it coming 3rd in Group 3. I met up with Dan last year and he has given me all the original correspondence he had with the factory when ordering the car. Fascinating stuff. The car is one of 4, maybe 5, RHD TRs made.
Regards,
Philip
will these ltw models ever stop giving me wood?......YIKES.:D
