I think the S Registry made a decision to keep control of the club private, which is their right. But what we're seeing now is the cost of that. More participation from the members would probably have grown the club much larger.

I didn’t receive an email … yet I am a paid up Member …
Yes me as well.
My guess although their will be a cost savings in the end it will result in even fewer paid "members".
My two cents Early S is run by a group of just a handful of people. They do it for the love. If we want paper magazines our annual memberships should go up in price....significantly bcs of the low number of paid memberships relative to website users. Really, the price of membership is less than a tank of gas. Think about that for a moment. Yes, it's sad as I prefer paper too. But times change. I have subscriptions to way too many Porsche and Auto mags and have decreased to the following: Early S, 912, and Excellence. My Sports Car Market subscription ceases this June, and I'm on the edge of cancelling Excellence. Going digital is just a sign of the times... I'm more than happy to pay $200 to $300 a year for membership to keep the paper coming. I plan on buying a high quality printer and printing the digital version so I can sit on my throne and read Early S and marvel and the ingenuity of those behind the cars that bring us smiles.
I agree with Jackman 100%
I understand and agree with the reasoning from both viewpoints. I suggested a 2 tier payment system previously. Hopefully somehow the printed publication can continue to be a reality.
My 2 cents
Stop printing the calendar, nice but not really needed.
Double the cost, for a one year trial.
Seek more volunteer help in specific areas that you can identify.
Don't want to lose the value of the contributions and experience of our members. For example the recent discussions on member experience with different tires. Where else can you get that?

So according to Chuck's post, it cost about 100K a year to do the magazine. Sounds to me a majority of the comments want to keep it.
Chuck, can you put a proposal together for 2 tier membership, or has the ship already sailed. Or, for a reduced number of copies printed make the price even higher.
For $100K per year, a more practical alternative is to line up some generous patrons, or some advertisers / corporations to step up -- 10 x $10K, or whatever mix you like. It's just not that much money in the big scheme of things.
