Thanks for all recent contributions. I have added a good bunch again.
I found these...
Note a typo...The build # on the '65 N is 3145 not 17028 as listed in the table.
My numbers from '69 E, build date autumn '68:
901/09 19803
S/N: 6290803
Matching #s confirmed by Porsche.
Thanks! I've just added 11 new entries.
Tom Butler wrote to say: "As best I know, the build numbers stopped with the transition for 2.0 to 2.2. The S/N moved from the front to the side with the transition from Aluminum to Magnesium."
I agree with these statements, but add that the 914/6 2.0 engines do not have the build #'s either.
Type 901/01
Engine number 900279
Build 179
Case is at a friend in Norway, in parts, not in the original car.

Great. That is an early engine. Since it is in parts, can you find the case "pairing numbers" on each half of the block? That would be very interesting.
my third case info:
901/01 - 902214 - 2114 - 516
my other 2 with the pairing numbers
901/14 - 3280442 - 11233 - 534
901/14 - 3280620 - 12050 - 500 - AL
Dave do you want pix?
901/01 - ???? - 824
I will try to get it the next time I am by the car
Glenn, pictures of 901/14 - 3280620 - 12050 - 500 would be useful to get a nice clear shot of the pairing number, and the serial # location on this very late AL case.
901/01 - ???? - 824 My bet is that it is 900924 since in that range it is in sync. TIA
