Based on those I am probably going to have to concede. They do look black. But being stubborn Scots I'm still going to look next week. Also got a '67 912 targa there and hopefully can get a look at those. Maybe the extra "S" money got you black struts and shocks.
I have quite a bit or rust as well, NOT like yours though. Inspiring!
I plan on having it dipped in NC. Hopefully this summer.
Do you have rust repair updates?
UPDATE Only been 11 years. Body and paint finished. Bottom end engine about finished. Imported date correct Leistritz muffler arriving this week (Thanks Joris) And the beat goes onAttachment 633829
What a great update Tom! I have never seen this thread until today and I applaud your dedication to this monumental resurrection!
Thank you. Came to a crossroads on the engine. Second owner met Dr. Richard Weiss (911 racer),and after a negotiation agreed to loan the engine to Dr. Weiss as a back up engine for one racing season in exchange for building the engine out to 2.5 specs. As might be expected, upon the return of the engine it was not particularly suitable for street use. However the owner had some more work done before returning in to street use.. On the current rebuild had two options. In my mind I was going to restore the car to as close as possible to the way it came from the factory. One option was to sleeve the engine back to 2.0 and the other was to rebuild as a streetable 2.5. After much self debate and in homage to its race history decided to go the 2.5 route. Have used as much of the original sheet metal as possible with the inclusion of some other from a '67 912 clip I also bought. Paul Abbot did the carbs, Moito did the whole Webasto, North Hollywood instruments, Weidman 4.5's and Targa Dan roof redo. Also picked up a genuine '67 (not '68 or later drivers sport seat. Looking forward to at least 180 hp. Still dreaming and scheming. As to my budget as the reporter said at the Hindenburg disaster "Oh the humanity!"
Tom
Congratulations and your dogged determination. It has been a long and arduous road. Nice to see some color.
I had a 67S that had the 66 crank and the case opened for 2.7 cylinders. Very nice combo.
