I thought this was a Cunningham, when I first saw it --- white car w/ blue skunk stripes was always his livery . . . but this is actually another Jag --- Lister-Jag . . . and ex-Briggs Cunningham

The highlight, of course, was the 1-owner 275GTS/4, aka N.A.R.T. Spyder, ex-Eddie Fisher
$27,500,000 incl commish
For that kinda money . . . will this car ever drive again?
Seeing this made me think of 1059 . . . parked at the curb, a coupla blocks up the hill, out in front of this kinda sketchy-looking apartment complex
At least she gets to drive
:D
Next morning, we got up not-so-early, then headed down to the Legends of the Autobahn show, in Carmel Valley . . .

Had a fun time --- again. Blustery . . . but still warm enough that Zovig even took off her sweater (!)
. . . and good to meet/visit w/ Bill (TeeItUp) and Steve (stevesc_us)
We love the whole Monterey area --- but especially Carmel-by-the-Sea . . . so, after the car part, Zovig and I headed out for CbtS . . . for the tourist part
OK-OK --- I got us a little lost . . . followed a County Sheriff into this rabbit warren of residences and --- lacking GPS, breadcrumbs, or any real clue . . . I took us for a tour of some of the neighborhoods
Some of them more than once
Some more than others
Some WAY more
Anyway --- we eventually found this . . .
. . . more this . . .
Zovig liked
This is why I get 'lost'
:D
Picture #4 in post 604 sure looks like "Summer Place" home. Frank Lloyd Wright I believe.
Thanks for that, gled49 --- I had no idea this was there
. . . aka The Walker Residence . . .
. . . 1948 seemed to have been a busy year for Mr. Wright as he designed both the V.C. Morris Gift Shop and the Walker Residence. And, just like the Hanna House, this seaside home was also designed with a honeycomb floor plan; exterior stonewalls, and boasts a wide copper roof that is supported by a large chimney. The vast rectangular glass windows soak in the breathtaking ocean views, part of Wright’s signature “organic design style,” which aims to bring his structures as close to nature as possible. The Walker Residence was also a hit in the Hollywood scene when its exterior and interior were used in the filming of the 1959 movie “A Summer Place.” However, unlike the buildings mentioned above, this property is unfortunately not open to the public . . .

More . . .
. . . Wright's Usonian "Cabin on the Rocks" is one of many of his designs shaped like the prow of a ship, but may be the only one that actually juts out into the ocean . . .
. . . According to Dunham, the orientation, size and configuration make the living room the center of this 1200 square foot structure. Abutting the prow-shaped terrace, it is a large hexagon with continuous bands of metal framed windows on five sides. The windows step outward from bottom to top and open down to protect from the gusty onshore winds . . .
. . . Two guest bedrooms and the master bedroom occupy a wing between the living area and the carport. The master bedroom was enlarged in 1960 by San Francisco architect Sandy Walker, Della's grandson . . .
. . . The distinctive, patinated roof was originally constructed of enamelled steel during a copper shortage when the house was being constructed due to the Korean War. The roof was subsequently replaced with copper several years after Wright's death . . .
. . . While still a private residence, there is a wonderful, unique opportunity for an interior tour approximately 1 hour, 28 minutes into the 1959 Sanda Dee, Troy Donahue movie, "A Summer Place" . . .
. . . There are excellent exterior views from the driveway gate on the north side, a vantage point to the south and from the beach at low tide. Convenient adjacent on-street parking is available. The camera view overlooking the house in "A Summer Place" is now occupied by an array of $5-20M weekend homes. Enjoy them too and visit the nearby Carmel Point geocache while you are in the vicinity . . .

I'm not a big FLW fan --- I think most of the prairie stuff is too square/weird/ugly . . . but I do love the way his buildings become part of their surroundings, the materials he uses, also their 'openness'
After hiking around Scenic Rd, we headed down to the Village, saw The Carmel Car Show . . .
Nothing wrong with free . . . and I'm sure these cars are all here because of The Monterey Week --- but, still . . .
After window-shopping/goofing-around for a while . . . it was time to head out/home
Just in time, too . . .
1) I forget this Designer Guy's name --- but I'm pretty sure he's Armenian . . . hammer-tone gold w/ some kinda stone --- BIG, too . . . forget what kind. Or maybe I just blacked-out. $12k? Gulp!
2) + 3) Just another T-5 Cab. W/ Rudges. Ho-hum
4) Seriously. This is Carmel-by-the-Sea. Carmel-in-the-Woods, more like. Small houselets, all squished-together --- just like a lotta places in CA. But, with all this greenery? . . . who'd notice. Or mind? Wonder what The HOAs are like around here . . . please keep your Ferrari off the street
Car Race in the Traffic Jam
1) Aston Martin Vanquish. V-12? Newish --- going by the plates. Expensive --- I guess, but . . . kinda quiet. And brown. And slow. Well . . . slower than us. In traffic
Porsche wins
2) Maserati. GranTurismo? Nice fruity/barky/burbley exhaust note. But he was slow, too = no traffic skills. So we whipped right by this Guy, doin’ --- what . . . 10 MpH?
Porsche wins
3) + 4) Ferrari 458 Italia. Automatic only? Spor----------ty. Driver looks height-challenged. Have to admit --- this car sounded pretty good, too. Not-too loud, smooth, high --- but kinda whiney/electrical, almost. Like a bug was in my ear. Bugged me. So I stuck 1059 into 2nd . . . took her up to ~4k, then let ‘er run-out. Tigersound!, there, Shorty. Passed him, too --- like he was standing etc
Porsche wins
5) Looks like a Gulfstream --- 450, maybe? How Really Rich People avoid traffic. They fly OVER it. But? . . . they were going the other way, so . . .
. . . Porsche wins
4-0-0 = Undefeated
