I have no problem with a $100 donation, but I'm unclear what that money would go toward. Do we (the club) have an immediate need to pay off bills? Is the money needed to continue publication of Esses? Does Chuck need a weekend in Tiajuana????

Whoa...
Knowing there was no solicitation… and this was completely spontaneous...
I'm somewhat overwhelmed by this response… :o
If you want to make an immediate contribution to the club you can write the check payable to the Early 911S Registry and send the checks directly to me …
I will compile them and deliver them myself to the next meeting…with sincere acknowledgment and great appreciation ...
Cheers, and thanks

I'm with Curt on this one, word for word. First, what's broken, and secondly, what's the fix? I don't even know what the structure of the Registry is; I assume that when there's a meeting, Chucks in charge and then whomever shows up has a vote(?). What is it that we need/want to accomplish, and how best do we reach the stated goal? If someone were to put together some sort of brain storming session with sufficient advance notice, I predict that volunteers from near and far would step to the plate. The Long Hood Registry :o , (and this thread, by the way) is good stuff; how can we make it better? I don't have a problem with Sithot's suggestion, but after we empty the extinguisher, what's the plan for fire prevention?Quote:

An immediate contribution would give us a slightly more comfortable cushion in the club's treasury … specifically more then the barely $1000 balance we keep.
After all the work at the Ventura event… paying off the hotel, paying for the few unsold dinners, squaring up with the merchandise float… the club netted a few hundred dollars. The participants received the value. In dollars not so much the club. But most good value events run like that... if you're in the black at all you did pretty well… and we except that.
However, now it's time to publish the next issue of the ESSES… and that will in turn bring the balance back to that nervous $1000 once again… and that's the way it's been…
And no, I'm not in charge of the meetings or the Registry… there are four of us that are active and we all have a say and make decisions together…. We would love to have more on the board to help out with all of it…..
One way of 'fire prevention' would be more input and active help running the club
Cheers and thanks,
Your answer is good enough for me Chuck...check's in the mail. Quite a sacrifice for me, a guy who someone seemingly believed can't afford to drive his car, nor pay insurance for it... ;) I do wish some others who post here would pony up tho...C'mon guys, this site alone is a valuable asset...I'd hate to see it go away. But, $300 is better than nothing added to the account. $700 more or so would give a better cushion? Steven & Tom? A tip of my hat to you. So far, we're the 3 Musketeers...wish we were at least a platoon. (edit)...so does this give we who donate $100 a greater right to weigh in than others? If so, I vote for keeping the club name as it is...otherwise the car badge I run would be meaningless. But hey, some of my best friends drive 911T's... :)
I am all for changing the name of the club to encompass all longhoods. Gary Emory and I had just such a thought of starting another club back in the late 90's as we felt there were many owners/cars being "unserved". Too little time to make it a reality ultimately shelved the project.
One of the reasons we need this to happen is not just for the club...it's for the general membership at large, and all longhood owners. If you take a look, the 356 Registry membership is 7500 members strong, and is very visible in the Porsche community. Having that many members allows economics of scale in terms of reproduction parts as the vendors know that there is a large audience for their products. Currently there are very few "vendors" that are oriented to the early 911. Many of the parts for our cars have become more rare than those for the 356 simply due to the fact that we have few options other than OEM parts, and used. Those in the 356 Registry who are familiar with Brad Ripleys operation "NLA" know exactly what I mean. Yes, we do have a few more parts still available from Porsche, but those are disappearing rapidly. I've talked with more than a few fellow members about reproducing a few key parts for sport seats and horn grill lights. Who wouldn't want a new dash that didn't cost $1200?? (and fit correctly...).
Another reason for getting more people into the fold is simply the "brain trust" base of having that many more knowledgable people in the club.
If we can get the membership level up it becomes a self fulfilling profacy (sp?). More members, more dollars to support the club magazine, more opportunities for vendors, more ad $$ that can be spent in the club magazine, we then get a color magazine, more people sign on...etc. etc.
Hey, I'm on a business trip with no Esses in front of me...we do accept advertising $$ right??
just my .02
Eric
Count me in for the $100. The club can use the extra $$. Do we send the $$ to Mike? It's not like the board members are going to take a vacation to Hawaii. They word hard for no $$. This board is valuable!!!! To everyone!!
Now we are four! Do I hear more? Geographically, it's tough for me to make any meaningful (giving hours) contribution to this group. But I sure as hell trust those who do. I've met Chuck. Those who do vounteer with hours spent aren't in it for the $$$$. Wish I could say the same for PCA... ;) (edit) IMHO, as clubs expand in numbers, (sorry 356 registry) and memberships increase, the $ begin to attract people who are in it for the $. PCA has gone there, the 356 registry is teetering on the brink, according to a decades long friend who belongs. Eric, are you sure we want to go there? What scares me is that this group could lose it's volunteers, allowing the pros to take over. When/if that happens, I'm outahere!! Paul
