Interesting you mention the 916. The gain in structural rigidity by welding the roof to the body makes the 916 a phenomenal 2 seater. Wish I had one!

Calling all crest police!
Which is why I was joking about it. Trust me... some of these cats can go on and on about crests:

Note the poor hood and headlamp cover fit even on the good Drs. car. Gives hope to those with concours aspirations. ;)
I got a bunch of pics of the "Doc's " car a couple years ago at a 914 event. Gaps are all over the place, coffee stain on the seat but I'd still drive the fuch out of it once or twice. :)
I am personally quite pleased the quad headlight arrangement didn't make it to our production cars. It took me nearly 20 years to warm to the teener's unique look and for the last 20 years of ownership , still walk to the garage and wonder what design feature I like the least today.
If I had to look at the 4 headlights and a badge in the center of the hood, it just might be enough to push me over the edge...... UNTIL I got behind the wheel and looked past all of that and just drove into the moment.
Ask and ye shall receive (vuja de). J. West kit. I have one in mine. Works great. Easy install The same guy that makes the Rennshift.

Yeah, I noticed that after I posted it. :(
Our next project. 1970, Signal orange, original paint and interior, matching motor, etc. Imported to US from Germany in 1978, original American spec delivered to dealer in Frankfurt where it lived for its first 8 years. Has unusual front reflectors rather than US style turn signals and original Euro front and rear light covers. Stored for past decade in this farmhouse garage. We are geeked to bring this one back!
