Yes, I loved the thrill of the chase, and still do!
I received some messages asking if I would sell certain items before the auction. Although I would love to please friends and fellow members who've helped me over the years, the auction catalog would be pretty thin if I started selling now....
I've now sent everything over to Ladenburg in Germany and have nothing left at home or in the garage :(:

BUT, I asked the auction house to take a table at the LA Lit & Toy Show and they should already have sale catalogs available by then.

As mentioned above, part of the collection will also be shown at the TECHNO CLASSICA in Essen end of March. Cars as well as all items in the sale will be sold without minimum price (no reserve).

I've just read the last proof of the catalog, and saw that the 1973 Monterey Parade badge has been listed at 25 euros.....

So the auction should be fun and should have hopefully something for everyone!
Last but not least, I should have a few extra copies of the catalog and will happily sent them to those who cannot attend the above events!
If I am correct are you working or worked at an auction house. When did you decide now is the time to sell your collection (because there is so much more that you don't have yet) and did you had that in mind when you started acquiring?Quote:

I've worked for Christie's auction house for the last 15 years, not in the car department (lucky me because it closed a few years ago) but in the Impressionist and Modern Art Department.
Probably because of that, I've always thought that an auction sale was a good way to end a collection, as it provides a nice sense of closure. The sale makes you feel that you're transmitting the passion to others. So I knew I would eventually do this but wasn't sure when.
Over the past year or so, I realized I was accumulating multiples or spending too much money on rare "still missing" items. I also realized that historic rallies were a lot fun but getting a bit too repetitive, so the time had come to turn the page and start a new chapter.
Am I speculating? (or was it speculation all along? :confused:) No, because Passion and Speculation don't go together, and if I were looking to make a decent return, I wouldn't be selling a rare badge for 25 euros....:)

I don't mind at all! It is an interesting point and I'm sure we're both right.
If driven by money (or money only if you prefer), I would have given the cars for sale to Marco Marinello and post the badge on this forum for 200 Euros but I opted for another route: a venue I would have loved to see happening while I was collecting, and hopefully a fun event for all of us :)

I'm trying to think what I really liked doing the most: the swap meets (Schorndorf, Techno Classica, or the Lit & Toy show), The rallies (Tour Auto, Coupe des Alpes), the restoration projects, or the garage. I think the Lit & Toy show weekends in Los Angeles were really the most amazing trips.

You did like Haslinger in december 2010. He collected more than 80 Heuer watches for eleven years and he sold everything just in one day
