Seller's Description
For sale is this 1966 Porsche 911, SN# 303931, numbers matching Engine #907256 and Transmission #229493, produced on 3/30/1966, see COA. This car is the 255th produced with Weber carbs and one of 1709 produced in 1966 and was the 540th for that year. Originally sold by P.C. Southwest of San Antonio, TX too R.J. Ketfee Jr. as shown on the Kardex. Current owner purchased this car in March of 2001 in Denver CO. with 68,000 miles. 3R Automotive of Englewood, CO. installed the roll bar, fuel cell and race seat in order to attend DE and vintage race event. The car was run at only 3 SCCA vintage events and a few various Porsche DE events. All other aspects of the car were kept stock in order to also be able to drive on the street. This is not a race car but a street car with a few features to make it race legal for vintage events. Current mileage is 77,130. Paint has been changed from its original Sand Beige to Red and is in very nice condition. All original glass is retained except the front windshield.
Interior
Interior is in nice original condition and includes the original wood-rimmed steering wheel with matching wood dash trim. Original VDO instruments include a five-digit odometer reading 77,130 miles. The carpet is in good condition and original wood floorboards have been retained. Interior currently has a race seat and roll bar. Original seats are in very nice condition and the original drivers seat is included in the sale. Rear side material on passenger side near door and front of dash pod needs re-gluing. The bolt in roll bar car be easily removed.
Engine/Transmission
Original 2.0L engine was treated to a rebuild in 2002 by Steve Rowe, a 30 year Porsche mechanic at 3R Automotive. Modern update of upgraded chain tensioners were installed. The original weber carbs were restored in 2008 and recently have had a fresh tune. Engine starts easily with a few pumps of the throttle and after a short warm up idles smoothly. Driving the engine rev’s smoothly and pulls as would be expected. The transmission shifts smoothly up and down through the gears with no issues.
Trunk
The front trunk area is very clean and in solid condition. Original fuel tank and filler neck is included in sale so the existing fuel cell can easily be removed to put back to original. Stabilizer bar and battery shut off have been added but can be easily removed as well.
Underbody
The Undercarrage is all original and mostly very solid. Some areas of undercoating are showing signs of flaking and there is a small area of rust at the front driver side inside suspension mount. The area of rust is very small and the repair may be able to be contained to a small area. Certain rubber boot components as shown in the underbody pictures do need replacement however do not affect function of the steering.
Suspension
At 68,000 miles the front and rear shocks were replaced with Koni’s. Also done at this time were new SS brake hoses, lower ball joints, drop links and upgraded turbo tie rod ends.
Wheels
Original steel chrome with factory marking and stampings.
Interesting car. I recently came across 303963 which was built 5 days earlier and delivered on the same 12/30/66. Engine, transmission and Webasto are all also lower numbered. I wonder why these cars were held for so long before being delivered? Mine is also an original Weber car.

Dealer Description:
Proudly offered by RB Collection is this lovely 1965 Porsche 911 coupe presented in its original shade of Irish Green (code 6406) over black leatherette. This important and highly desirable 911 is a very early production, numbers-matching example, completed on June 3, 1965, per the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. This wonderful car has been treated to a recent freshening of the restoration and presents in excellent condition inside and out. The Irish Green paintwork is in fine order throughout, befitting a car that is equally at home on the road or in a show. The body is crisp and straight, displaying nice, consistent gaps and proper detailing with correct slim bumpers, alloy deco strips, and good quality restored chrome trim. Riding on original steel wheels with chrome center caps and blackwall Vredestien Sprint Classic tires, the stance is squat, purposeful, and true to factory standards.
The interior is recently restored and finished in black basketweave pattern leatherette on the seats, correct salt and pepper lightweight carpets, and black door panels. A distinction of the early 911 is the natural finish wood trim on the dash, which presents in excellent condition on this car. This example also retains its correct early-style green-faced instruments, a distinct four-spoke sports steering wheel, and a period accessory walnut AMCO shift knob for the 5-speed “dogleg” gearbox. Detailing is excellent throughout the remainder of the cabin.
The 2.0-liter flat six is the original, numbers-matching unit per the supplied Certificate of Authenticity. It is well-detailed and tidy, featuring the correct air box, downdraft Solex carburetors, and factory-style clamps and hardware. The engine benefits from recent service performed in-house, and runs beautifully, sending power through the correct 5-speed 901 gearbox. It is befitting a car that is usable on the road, while also finely detailed for regional shows and club events. The undercarriage is very well-presented, thanks to a recent refurbishment by our team of restoration specialists. From the front trunk to the rear engine compartment, many details were researched to ensure accurate presentation.
This lovely and rare first-year 911 is sure to please the enthusiast seeking a finely restored and road-ready 2.0-liter model to enjoy in rallies, tours and casual show events. It represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable short-wheelbase 911s, from the first year of production of the world's greatest sports car.
