Should be ready for business in a few months.
P.S. Paint is Boxster seal gray. The PO never even wet sanded and buffed it...
Still looks pretty nice despite the dullness of the finish. As for dash, I would have prefered a 5 gauge dash, but this 3 gauge dash is kind of interesting. Note the triple combo fuel level/oil pressure/.oiltemp gauge on the left which was custom done by North Hollywood Speedo. And all three are numbered gauges! Who needs a clock or oil level gaugeanyway. The clocks never keep time well, and the oil level gauge needle always bounces wildly from zero to full unless your are sitting at a red light for more than two minutes;)
Here's the project buggy. It got beat out at the show by something similar with tons of bling.
Oh ya...thought it was time to post a pic or two of my ride...here seen with the Memphis Belle at an airshow...lol
Looking good Paul!

Frank, as always, we are not worthy... ;)
Okay. That is THE one. To my eye that is and always will be the ultimate 911. Any pics of the engine?

Checked your photo site ... FANTASTIC car Frank ... CONGRATS !!!!!
Could it be the same car David Molhman had at the Florida Parade ?
Will check my stuff for any Sebring pics for'ya
Cheers bud.......... you got the 'Holy Grail'........:D
Okay. The engine is THE one too. Frank, that is awesome. Can we all come over and try it out.:D
Both on the new car and on the showroom restoration. It looks terrific. It must feel so good to be able to spread out a bit.
Heidi sends her congrats as as well. She was impressed with your collection, but more impressed with your hospitality. She asks if we can stop by the shop when we're down that way.
My '69T with the newly redone interior and motor
but really a nice one, don't you think?. Sold new in September 1973 in Germany. Went to the US in 1978 and back to the Fatherland in 2007.
Euro spec 2.7 MFI Carrera. Complete history, full # matching and yes, correct factory ducktail. Car is fully restored with less than 2k miles on the motor.

Both cars look great. FWIW, Fritter is another one of those hot-rod VW types that seem to naturally end up here. Care to share a pic of the vw Mike?
Love the accent headlights and the seats. Are those original sport seats or aftermarket (pardon my ignorance!)Quote:

Looks great, Fritter! (Fritter is in a Cal-Look VW club with Cornpanzer Dave and me (and some others). Another member has a 356A Cab.
"Sounds like your 911 needs a rebuild with some S parts...."
Yep, as Dave noted, it would take more than that. Although I love my '70 911, it's hard to beat 1700 lbs. and short gearing! Add swing axle suspension and crappy brakes and you have a very thrilling ride.
That being said, I'd love an MFI S engine in my T.
Cheers,
John
Uhm, that would be 11.7 lb/hp (pounds per horsepower). Now, divide 1240 by about 225!Quote:

After looking three years I finally found a SWB for me. It is an inland valley, S. of Sacramento, black plate 911 with 120k fully documented miles. No accidents or rust, matching numbers chassis 306819: engine: 909884 and with one repaint. All original interior with seats recovered. My plans are the following bolt ons: SC front suspension with original front sway bar and rear 15mm added; H1s, deep 6 fronts and 911R rears, sport drivers seat, factory above the bumper lights (still need driver's side cut-out grill). And when time and funds allow: 2.4 "S" engine, stock look.

Still looking for your horn grill, drivers side right?

Hi Eric,
Thanks and yes, horn grill with cut out, but no left, driver's side is the one I need. It would be WONDERFUL if you find one!

Hello all!
Here is an original Sephia 72T, PO changed to Aubergine and I changed it to um..glp G. red. I'll have to live with a non-period correct color, but I have to admit I like it.
Good looking car..... and family.......:)

You can see the AN-10 oil lines going back to the engine from the front cooler. At first, I didn't like the fact that they showed, but then I sorta grew to like the look. :) The oil temps never go above 190 degrees (even during the heat of a GA summer).

Hello All. I've been a part-time lurker for the past year, but wanted to take the opportunity to say a more formal "hello" now. Posted below are several pictures of my '73 E/RSR hotrod. It is a "work in progress". When I bought it in October of '05, it still had the original 2.4 MFI motor and gearbox, both were running well. Last year I purchased a 2.8 SS and close ratio gearbox from Henry Schmidt. Dan Jacobs at Hairy Dog in CT installed it for me a year ago. To say the least, I have not been disappointed in the 2.8 motor and the close-set cogs.... :D Unfortunately I had to focus on other projects this season, so the Porsche saw little use this season. However, I plan to run the car much more in '08. The car is going to be in my garage over this coming winter 07-08 for some additional work I have planned. I guess that's the one benefit of a cold, New England winter - the sand and salt forces the neat cars off the road and into the garage for some work. Regards,
Taken this morning, Nov 30th, with my new camera.
Bob,
That is a great shot, I love the contrast and the lighting. What camera do you have.
Phil
Bob, you have moved from auto porn to pure art with that shot! gordeous car.
well Bob your new camera ****ing rocks!

Well, it's no "Bob Shot"... but here's 0793 for her post-bug scrubbing glamour shot, Daytona backstretch, RR III.
Fantastic pic Bob... available lighting or setup??
Thanks gentlemen. The goal is to get fair-to-middlin' with the new rig, Canon 40d with 17-55 2.8, and shoot some of my friend's cars which means 2 other cars ;).

On another subject...you've inspired me (again). I put some tape on the bumpers and I gotta admit I like it better that the bare R look. I'll take a picture once the car's off jackstands (again).

SoCal,
Beautiful car!
I see you have your new period sport seats installed!
Do you have a detailed picture of the interior with the new seats?
Johan
Thanks guys!
After browsing the "show your seats" thread over and over for the last 6 months or so, I decided to find something vintage to replace the sparcos. I would've liked to had found a set of sport seats but there were no deals to be had during my search. Actually there was one sport seat in the local craigslist a few months ago, when I called the seller told me it sold the same day within hours - care to guess how much? $150! I was a day late... Someone definitely scored.
I found this pair of scheels that had been in storage for many years and the owner didn't want to sell, but after a couple of weeks of persistency, he let me have them for a fair price. They needed complete tear down and upholstery but were in good shape structurely. One is a fixed frame and the other has a tilting mechanism driven by gears and a knob on the side.
They're very comfortable and I'm pleased on how they turned out. Below are some pictures.

My (former) signal yellow '68 912 vintage race car - circa 1996. Sorry for the crappy picture, it's a scanned photo from pre-digital camera days. That was a fun car...like all 912's.

rich,
Nice 912. Is it still running locally in the Sovren races. It looks very familiar to me. I may be remembering it from 10+ years ago at SIR though.
regards,
al
Yes, it's still racing. I sold it to Jim Lovall, who raced it for a couple of years (he now races a 911 & a 356). Tom Flynn is running it now and I think he hits all the SOVREN races. Tom's a good caretaker, it looks as good now as it did then. When I turned it into a race car, it was a well cared for two owner Eastern Washington car with zero rust.
Here's my 70T/6 month update. Still working through some electrical issues. "New" Webers installed. Suspension is done, including re-setting the previous Paris-Dakar ride height. Rotors and pads are finished and the shifter has been rebuilt. Still to do: Tranny rebuild (2nd gear synchro).
Many thanks to this board for all the help with my projects.
Ulrich
Ulrich, very nice, the dark blue and shiny bits work well together!
Thank you Tom. My last 911 was an SC and I find this car a bit more of a challenge to work on, plus here is the NLA issue for many parts. Tempted to try my first engine drop to save some money off the tranny work.
Ulrich
these are the first pics I am posting on the Web.
I spent 3 years on this one. Stripped to bare metal, and a rotisserie restore. This began its life as a 71E. I struggled to restore it to its orginal state, or RS clone it. I fell in love with the RS styling.
Hopefully it was a good thing....

Very nice classic photo :)
Here is my 71 t targa. Purchased from the original owner in April 05. It has 2.2, 5 speed, deep 6's including the spare, S trim. I have been doing maintenance on it including brake master cylinder, clutch cable, rebuild pedal cluster, SSI's, tune-ups, valve adjust, oil/filter, rebuild/recover the targa top and lots of cleaning. The car has rock chips on the nose, some dings and scratchs and the picture makes it look good, but it's mine, I love driving it and I have wanted an early 911 for a long time, since high school. So there it is, a work in progress, enjoy!
GREAT look'n car Neal....... hope you'll post more pics
Cheers
At your disposal My '72T not an "s" VIN: 9112102748. Looking for another source for information... more pics to follow unless I'm immediately dismissed. This is a "bastard".. 901 tranny with 71T engine, fresh Webers, new pedal bushings, master cylinder, all new fuel lines and fuel pump. I've owned her since 1994, found out in the country in Terrell, Texas purchased for a measly 2.5K... currently residing in Dallas. Flame away..
Jond911t, we love b*stards.
And thats quite a b*stard you have there.
Is that bahama yellow?
Owned it since 1994? Ahead of the crowd ... i wish i had owned mine since 1994. And for 2.5k ... downright theft at a price such as that.
Welcome, and do show us more pics. Perhaps we can convince Chuck to change the name to early911registry. The more non-esses, the better ... to make all the poor old T and L and E and RS' and ST' and R's and RSR's feel welcome (hold on --- we're in good company there:p )
Karl.
Come on Jon... (I hope that's your name)
All Early 911 owners are welcome to join the club and post on this board...
Yes...The club with it's name started as a 'registry' for early S's in 1990...
However...Through the years we have become an inclusive club and information source for ALL things Early 911 internationally....
Ya'got a good look'n car...
Welcome to the community...:)
jond911t,
Truth be told many of us are b*stards, welcome aboard.
Keep an eye out for DFW Cars and Coffee to meet some other longhoods in the area.
We will be having Hill Country Rally in the Austin area April 18-20. It will be posted here soon.
Look forward to meeting you.

Neal and Jon - both very nice examples of early cars. Jon, any shade of orange looks good on a 911, and Neal, what's not to love about the RS style?
As far as 'original' goes, the car was only original the day it was produced (unless it was immediately preserved in an airlock). Many of us maintian our cars on a shoe string - but we love the early car and do the best we can with what we have. Then there are those with vast collections, who restore the cars to factory-like new. All are welcome and all have much info and enthusiasm to share.
Welcome to the board - you will learn tons and make many good amigos. (Wish there were a few more amigas, tho.)
I'm a '68 912 owner-- I hope that admission doesn't get me shown to the door:o I thoroughly enjoy this site for its wealth of information on the early cars.

I will give you a million Baht for that car :D
Thanks for the interest guys. I acquired this '68 912 coupe(6808 burgandy red) while I was searching for a SWB 911. I'd never driven a 912, but this thing is a blast.(I used to own an '83 SC Targa and an '87 944). I don't have the COA yet but it appears to be all original, except for the period correct
Nardi wheel, later radio (I have the original) and Weber conversion. I've since replaced those 80's floor mats with black coco mats and removed those crazy door sill covers.

I have been remiss in posting a photo :o Ron
Gumby, what an interesting color. Surely you have more pics ;)
Thanks, I'm lousy with photos and resizing them.
Aldo... simply amazing!!
Juan:
My son caught this shot of Gumby's Zambesi green S at Frank's picnic last summer. Rare color!
72T/RS clone with Euro 3.2/964 cams/different maf/chip/flowed intake etc dynoe'd at 239 RWHP!!! Full resto over past 2.5 years, many trick parts, and the color is Mexico Blue
going to more vintage look r lights this week, as well as rs decals
Ya just gotta love Mexico Blue.
Those wood door lock knobs are really period correct...beautiful !Quote:

Resize photos on this board?? I've got several I'd love to post yet I see several other newbies like myself who can't figure out how to resize to board requirements.
Sorry for the thread drift...
jon:)
I took me a long time to be able to post pictures as well, is there a reason that this cannot be made simpler? I'm not bitching, just curious.
To resize pictures, just do a Google search for "Picture Resize" and you'll find some websites that let you upload your pictures and download the resized.
Been lurking for a while, thought I'd try posting a few pics.
one owner,90,000 mile, just back from paint shop were it was put back ti its original color;houndstooth sport seats waiting instalation
We should all be so lucky, to be trapped in Frank's garage. :)
If you are using Windows XP,you can download their image resizer via "Windows Power Toys".Google that and download is easy. Then you right click your mouse and a window will show you how to get the correct size for this board. TFM
Frank, is there any chance of you disclosing the cost of the metallic gold paint job ( looks great). there has been some discussion on this site about paint cost and I'm sure there would be lots of listeners. cheersQuote:

Not mine, and not a 911.
Out-take of the images I made for the recent Excellence Magazine article - Mick Summa's Dual Purpose Speedster.
Is that the Speedster that was at Eric's campout last summer? That was a sweet 356.
Nicely done Randy! cant wait to see the "good " stuff! :)
Sure is. :) Mick's car is pretty rude, isn't it?Quote:

The photo just kinda happened with a little previsualization. The Robinson copters were doing touch & go's long enough for me to get set up with a 500mm lens. Sometimes your favorite shot does not match the rest of the take and isn't used in the story for that reason. Thought it would be nice for you folks to see it anyway. Cheers!

CHUB ROCK. Wow, glad I check back here occasionally.Quote:

Nice, Ray. Is that coming in October?
Ray,#Your looks great. Seats have nice patina and the shift pattern on the dash is a nice touch :)Quote:

Great car, Ray!
Can't wait to drive it again next month! :)
getting thru the TUV last week with my 73.5 targa.
Passed the first time :)
Last pic was included to show the resto work on the rear package tray and rear targa window frame. This is wear the rust usually shows its ugly head on the early targas
It may be "just" a 912, but it's all mine!
All 912's welcome! The more longhoods, the better!!
great color!
Thanks, some day I'd like to add a SWB 911 to go with the 912. Here's one more picture just for the heck of it:
that's a beautiful car.
love it. :)
Very nice colour, I love those headlights ;)
1971 911S, second owner ~70K miles. Rebuilt stock 2.2S. Owned by G.T. Skalla.
Not my car but I'm the care taker and do all the maintenance, race prep, and transportation to the track. I just finished a repaint/color change that was prompted by a little mishap at the track. While we were at I welded in a full cage, installed RS carpet set, Rolled the fenders, Re skinned a door, Installed SC fuel tank, Installed fire system, and did a bunch of other trick little stuff. This is on top of all the other junk we have done to the car for over 10 years now. Below are links to some more pictures. If your on the rennlist mail server you may have seen them. The pictures are in order from start to finish (actually were not quite finished, and probably never will be). Thanks to Ed Mayo for some technical assistance and sourcing of parts.
